The Monday, April 22 live episode of “American Idol” Season 22 proved to be the end of the road for two fan-fave singers: Roman Collins and Jayna Elise. They were the only artists in the Top 12 that failed to earn enough votes from viewers to make it into next week’s all-important Top 10. Host Ryan Seacrest delivered the unfortunate news in front of judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. The guest mentor for “Billboard #1 Hits” night was Meghan Trainor.
Throughout the competition, Roman sang tunes like “Living for the City” (Auditions round), “Come Together” (Showstopper round), “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)” (Top 24 round), “Never Would Have Made It”, “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World”, “You’re All I Need to Get By” (Top 14 round) and “Roar” (Top 12 round). Netflix has greenlit a six-episode dark comedy series from Tom Segura.
Per the official description, the currently untitled series “centers on Segura, who also serves as the show’s narrator, as he takes us through each episode in a series of vignettes. The twisted comedic sensibility of Tom’s standup is the core DNA of this series, where every story will unfold in a hilariously disturbing way only he could imagine.”
Segura wrote, self-financed and produced the pilot before selling it to Netflix, which is producing the full series later this year and releasing it in 2025. Rami Hachach directed the pilot.
Netflix ordered the series based on a pilot that Segura produced himself. Segura also wrote the pilot, which was directed by Rami Hachach.

Outside of perhaps Steven Spielberg and Janusz Kamiński, there may be no director-cinematographer collaboration that’s more extensive in modern-day cinema than that of Wes Anderson and Robert Yeoman. Having shot all of his live-action features, along with his recent Oscar-winning The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, Yeoman is now taking a break for Anderson’s next feature The Phoenician Scheme.
Stepping in as director of photography, as he did for the Coens when Roger Deakins wasn’t available for Inside Llewyn Davis, is Bruno Delbonnel, who also shot Amélie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Across the Universe, and The Tragedy of Macbeth. However, it won’t be the first time the cinematographer has worked with Wes Anderson, as he shot his H&m holiday ad “Come Together” and even briefly appeared in The French Dispatch.

Exclusive: Comedian Tom Segura has identified the most promising vehicle yet to showcase his acting chops, as Deadline understands that he’s in talks for multiple roles in Dirty Rotten Bastard, a show biz-centric indie from Ed Helms & Mike Falbo’s Pacific Electric Picture Company.
Helmed by Ryan McNeely and Josh Martin, aka The Director Brothers, the film tells the insane true story of an aspiring filmmaker who is kidnapped by deranged lounge singer Tony Clifton. Initially drawn to document Clifton’s world, he is thrust into a chaotic journey of sex, celebrity, and comedy, blurring the lines between observer and participant, and testing his sanity.
Segura will play legendary avant-garde comedian Andy Kaufman’s larger-than-life comedic persona Clifton, as well as the performer’s friend and longtime collaborator Bob Zmuda.

The Beatles‘ “Something” is one of George Harrison’s masterpieces. He probably couldn’t have made it alone. Another 1960s rock star taught George a musical trick that helped him write “Something.” John Lennon would later say that “Something” differed from all of George’s previous compositions.
The Beatles’ ‘Something’ was inspired by someone who was there with them in India
Donovan is a folk/psychedelic rock singer who became famous for 1960s tunes such as “Atlantis,” “Hurdy Gurdy Man,” “Sunshine Superman,” “Mellow Yellow,” and “Season of the Witch.” He famously went on The Beatles’ trip to India to study meditation. Donovan’s personal website says that he taught George a descending chord pattern that the Beatle would later use on the ballad “Something.”
Gold reports that, during a 2024 interview with Record Collector Magazine, Donovan discussed his influence on the “My Sweet Lord” singer. “I became George’s mentor for songwriting,...

Though The Beatles were the biggest band in the world in the 1960s, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr still faced censure. Several Beatles songs were banned around the world. One song Lennon wrote did not receive playtime on the radio because some believed it referenced drugs. Lennon rolled his eyes at this interpretation and called the song beautiful.
John Lennon admired a banned Beatles song
In 1968, The Beatles released “Happiness is a Warm Gun.” Every member of the band was incredibly proud of the song, but some censors were not. The BBC banned the song, believing it referenced heroin use.
“‘Happiness Is A Warm Gun’ was another one which was banned on the radio — they said it was about shooting up drugs. But they were advertising guns and I thought it was so crazy that I made a song out of it,” Lennon said in The Beatles Anthology.

The cover of John Lennon‘s Double Fantasy depicts him kissing Yoko Ono. The record’s title is not simply a reference to the two of them working together. John revealed the name has a spiritual meaning.
John Lennon’s ‘Double Fantasy’ was inspired by John’s view of prayer
The book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono features an interview from 1980. In it, John revealed his opinions about prayer. “The consciousness is, ‘Let’s see what we shall pray for together. Let’s make it stronger by picturing the same image, projecting the same image,'” he said. “And that is the secret. That is the secret. Because you can be together but projecting different things.”
Yoko said these dual projections were “double fantasies,” alluding to the title of their newest record. “Double fantasies at the same time,” John replied. “And...

The Beatles’ songs from A to Z are a study of how the band changed the course of pop music. The songwriting, melodies, instrumentals, and recording technqiues established the band as among the most influential in music history. But for all their success, The Beatles remained active for a relatively short period of time.
In 10 years, The Beatles released 14 albums in what’s considered their core catalog. It includes just over 200 songs from John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Some are much more memorable than others, but every Beatles song from A to Z has its own story and interesting facts to keep listeners entertained even when the music stops.

Consequence’s Origins is a recurring series that gives artists a place to break down everything that went into their latest release. Today, Sinkane dissects his new song, “How Sweet Is Your Love.”
Sinkane (aka multi-instrumentalist Ahmed Gallab) has announced his fifth studio album, We Belong, out on April 5th via City Slang Records. In addition, the pop and funk artist has announced a US tour and released the new single, “How Sweet Is Your Love,” along with its accompanying music video
In a compelling preview of what is sure to follow on We Belong, the song is dancy and fun. It’s in part inspired by the American punk scenes of the ’70s and ’80s, as well as the soul music of Gallab’s native Sudan.
“‘How Sweet Is Your Love’ is about remaining in the present and feeling all of your feelings as fully as possible,” Gallab tells Consequence about the tune.

You can discover a lot about a musician by learning their favorite Beatles song. Keith Urban said one of The Beatles’ songs has “an exquisite arrangement.” It makes sense that a country singer would like the tune in question. Sadly, the world at large doesn’t have the opinion taste as Urban.
Keith Urban’s favorite Beatles song is from ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’
During a 2009 interview with Cleveland.com, Urban was asked to pick his favorite Beatles song. He chose “She’s Leaving Home.” “She’s Leaving Home” is a ballad from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and it’s one of the most ignored songs in the Fab Four’s discography.
“What an exquisite arrangement,” Urban said. “The originality of that band continues to dumbfound me. I don’t know where they were drawing from, but it was such a magnificently original place.

Joe Perry of Aerosmith was asked to name his favorite Beatles song and he picked a classic track from The White Album. The tune in question doesn’t sound much like Aerosmith’s hits, but it was innovative nonetheless. Perry also revealed what he thought when he heard that one of The Beatles died.
Aerosmith’s Joe Perry loved a fusion song from The Beatles’ ‘The White Album’
During a 2009 interview with Cleveland.com, Perry named his favorite Beatles song: “Tomorrow Never Knows,” from The White Album. “Tomorrow Never Knows” is one of the most famous examples of raga rock, a genre fusing Indian classical music with Western rock ‘n’ roll. While “Tomorrow Never Knows” is distinct from Aerosmith’s hits, Aerosmith did experiment with raga rock on their album Nine Lives.
Perry explained why the Fab Four are so important. “The Beatles did everything long before anyone else,” he opined.

John Lennon‘s “Whatever Gets You Thru the Night” was “wild and rough,” according to the former Beatle. He compared “Whatever Gets You Thru the Night” to a tune from his record Imagine. The Imagine song was about being in a bad headspace.
John Lennon wrote a song called ‘Crippled Inside’ for his ‘Imagine’ album
During a 1974 interview from the book Lennon on Lennon: Conversations With John Lennon, John discussed his then-new single “Whatever Gets You Thru the Night.” “Yeah, and it’s wild and rough,” he said. The tune has a lot of energy but it could very easily be understood as song about substance abuse.
“I call it ‘Crippled Inside,’ y’ know?” John said, referring to a less famous song from Imagine about dealing with internal struggles. “It’s like releasing ‘Crippled Inside’ from the Imagine album instead of ‘Imagine.’ But I took a consensus of opinion because after I’d done it,...

To make music, you don’t always need to make music. George Harrison discussed meditating during the sessions for The Beatles’ Abbey Road. He produced two huge songs for the album: one major hit single and an album track that’s hugely popular. One of the songs charted twice in the United Kingdom.

Any hardcore fan of The Beatles will know that Paul McCartney’s memories didn’t always align with John Lennon’s. John said The Beatles’ “Come Together” was his work. Meanwhile, Paul said he was the one who made it “a genius record.”
Paul McCartney said it was his idea to change the tempo of The Beatles’ ‘Come Together’
During a 2017 interview with The Washington Post, Paul discussed his songwriting partnership with John Lennon. “We had a very easy manner where both of us knew that the other was only in it to help and we were pooling our resources,” he said. “So many times I would help John out with a problem in his song, but conversely, he’d do exactly the same with me. We knew that we would do that, and it was perfectly allowed.
“It’s not a question of pushing,” Paul added. “It’s a question of just being.

Nancy Sinatra covering The Beatles‘ “Something” is probably the single most 1960s thing imaginable. However, Sinatra didn’t finish and release her cover until 2013. Sadly, the “Sugar Town” singer did not have much to say about George Harrison, the sole composer of “Something.”
Nancy Sinatra felt 2013 was about time she put out a cover of The Beatles’ ‘Something’
Sinatra’s 2013 album Shifting Gears features covers of The Beatles’ “Something,” Jimmy Webb’s “MacArthur Park,” and other classic songs from her vaults. During a 2013 interview with Vice, Sinatra discussed why she didn’t finish recording those songs for years. “Well, they didn’t really fit what I was doing for most of my career, you know?” she said. “The truth is I didn’t want them to just die in the vault, I wanted them to get out and get some fresh air and be heard by my fans.

Bush have announced a career-spanning greatest hits compilation, Loaded: The Greatest Hits 1994-2023, out November 10th via Round Hill Records.
The UK alt-rockers shared the news alongside a new song that’s included on the comp entitled “Nowhere to Go But Everywhere” — the namesake of the group’s North American tour this fall. The track is a heavy grunger with surging power chords and a standout vocal performance from frontman Gavin Rossdale.
The rest of the collection will cull from Bush’s extensive back catalog, with the tracklist flowing chronologically from the band’s ’90s glory days up through its prolific post-2010 output following the 2011 comeback effort, The Sea of Memories.
“I’m really grateful that I get the chance to make music after all of this time,” Gavin Rossdale commented in a press release. “The privilege is not lost on me. I’m still in the octagon, and I...

Dave Grohl is just like many post-1960s musicians — The Beatles greatly influenced him. The early songs Paul McCartney and John Lennon wrote together helped change the direction of pop music forever. Grohl said his favorite Beatles song was the Lennon tune “Hey Bulldog,” but he praised all the band members for their contributions.
Dave Grohl said ‘Hey Bulldog’ was his favorite Beatles song and praised the entire band’s contributions
There’s no shortage of songs to choose a favorite Fab Four tune. The band covered miles of ground during their relatively short career. They produced saccharine pop tunes, R&b numbers, folk-tinged tunes, experimental rock, and more.
Foo Fighters frontman Grohl bypassed the usual biggies — “A Day in the Life,” “Come Together,” “Eleanor Rigby,” “Hey Jude” — when choosing his favorite Beatles song. The former Nirvana drummer picked the tossed-off John song “Hey Bulldog” because of the contributions from...

George Harrison often wrote songs by himself, even when he was with The Beatles. He rarely got help from Paul McCartney and John Lennon, who were busy collaborating. However, Harrison often proved that he didn’t need his other bandmates, as he had a very successful solo career once The Beatles ended. However, George Harrison did need a little help from his friends a few times, including John Lennon on one solo song.
George Harrison had help from John Lennon on ‘All Things Must Pass’
All Things Must Pass was the first solo album released by Harrison after The Beatles ended in 1970. The album featured many of Harrison’s best songs, including “My Sweet Lord”, his first solo No. 1 hit. Harrison wrote the titular song on the album before The Beatles broke up. The Beatles‘ No. 1 hits are an eclectic group of songs spanning several genres. Despite this, three of the Fab Four’s songs that hit No. 1 in the United States have the same word in the title. That word became a huge part of The Beatles’ brand.
3 Beatles No. 1 hits have the same word and 1 has a similar word
Twenty of The Beatles’ songs topped the Billboard Hot 100. Those songs are “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “Eight Days a Week,” “I Feel Fine,” “A Hard Days Night,” “Help!,” “Hey Jude,” “Hello, Goodbye,” “Let It Be,” “Get Back,” “Yesterday,” “We Can Work It Out,” “Ticket to Ride,” “Penny Lane,” “Paperback Writer,” “The Long and Winding Road” / “For You Blue,” “Come Together” / “Something,” “She Loves You,” “Love Me Do,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” and “All You Need Is Love.” Notably, “Love Me Do,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” and “All You Need Is...

The Beatles tried to be democratic about the songs they put on their albums, but John Lennon once went to Paul McCartney and tried to bypass that system. Lennon had grown tired of The Beatles and didn’t see much of a point in competing with his bandmates for album space. As he no longer wanted to write that much, he asked McCartney for more freedom to add what he wanted to the albums.
John Lennon grew frustrated with The Beatles even when Paul McCartney tried to engage him
While Lennon and McCartney were The Beatles’ primary songwriters in the band’s early days, George Harrison began contributing more songs. Suddenly, getting album space was more competitive, and Lennon wasn’t interested in going head-to-head with his bandmates.

If it seemed like The Beatles could do no wrong during their career, that’s because it was pretty much the case. After some struggles with their earliest singles, their debut album, Please Please Me, rocketed to the top of the charts in England. (So did every studio album through Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band). Even their lousy A-side songs became hits. Still, The Beatles dealt with a few BBC bans, including their video for “Hello, Goodbye.”
Paul Mccartney’s talent couldn’t stop the BBC from banning The Beatles music video for ‘Hello, Goodbye’
Kenny Lynch, a musician who toured with the Fab Four in the early 1960s, called Paul McCartney and John Lennon idiots when they struggled to write a song. Soon after, he set a record by becoming the first person to cover one of their songs. He must have sensed what the future would hold.

Daisy Jones & The Six star Sam Claflin arrived at his final audition to play fictional 1970s rock star Billy Dunne without, by his own admission, the strongest grasp on the type of musician he was expected to embody.
His future showrunners had already taken a shine to the dimpled British actor, as had music supervisor Frankie Pine and producer Hello Sunshine’s president Lauren Neustadter, but one last hurdle remained before he could land the male lead in Amazon’s hot adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel of the same name. He had to sing live for the project’s music producers, Blake Mills and Tony Berg. Pine gave Claflin a shot of moonshine to soothe his nerves. The actor entered the storied halls of Sound City Studios, the Van Nuys building where Mick Fleetwood first met Lindsey Buckingham, and proceeded to kind of blow it. “I had prepared Elton John’s ‘Your Song,...

Emmy Rossum spoke about playing Tom Holland’s mother in “The Crowded Room” during a chat with Et Canada’s Morgan Hoffman.
Rossum is 36 years old in real life, while Holland is 27, meaning there’s just a nine-year age gap.
However, the actress told Hoffman the casting makes sense, sharing: “You know, when I read the script, I was so moved by the mother-son relationship.
“We watch this character, you know, as a really kind of… has this childish energy herself. She’s a young 25-year-old mom with an 8-year-old son, a single mom working two jobs, trying her best to love and protect a child who is full of creativity and imagination, but a little bit different.
“And we watch over time, over 10 years as their relationship erodes. And there’s an incredible poignancy and sadness,” she continued.

Much of John Lennon’s music is influenced by Bob Dylan. While Lennon blurred the line between inspiration and imitation, he learned to hone his songwriting style and avoid almost ripping off Dylan’s style. Lennon’s music became more introspective and personal in his solo career, but Dylan said there was one song by the former Beatle he struggled to relate to.

“Mother” debuted on Lennon’s first solo album, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. The lyrics address both of Lennon’s parents. Lennon’s father abandoned him as an infant, and his mother was deemed unfit to care for him alone. The “Imagine” singer was raised by his aunt Mimi, but his mother still had daily contact with him until she was killed in a car accident when Lennon was 17.

George Harrison did write several great songs for The Beatles, but “Something” was the most successful track he wrote for the band. And three out of five members of each team were going to be cut. “That is super Hunger Games,” Kelly observed. Was I — and possibly...

John Lennon‘s “Give Peace a Chance” has bizarre lyrics. Notably, the band Hot Chocolate released a reggae version of the song with new lyrics. John unexpectedly embraced the song.

During a 1998 interview in The Independent, Hot Chocolate member Errol Brown discussed how the band came together. “Back in 1968, through mutual friends, I met Tony Wilson, whose flat was almost opposite mine,” he said.
“Round this time, I began to get melodies in my head,” he continued. “Normally, I wouldn’t take any notice of them, but one day when Tony was driving the car, it happened again. Instead of ignoring the tune, I started to hum it aloud. He asked me what it was. ‘Just something that popped into my mind,’ I replied.

Paul McCartney is an impressive musical talent who knows how to play numerous instruments, including the guitar, the bass guitar, the piano, and the drums. He hasn’t played the ukulele much in his songs, but he once surprised George Harrison by playing one of his most famous Beatles songs on the instrument.

George Harrison wrote “Something” for The Beatles’ Abbey Road. It’s a stunning love ballad that proved Harrison was capable of writing hit songs for the band, since his songwriting talents were limited with the fab four. Many famous artists, such as Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles, have covered it. However, the most surprising rendition might have come from his fellow bandmate, Paul McCartney.

The Beatles‘ “Come Together” was inspired by a campaign slogan for a celebrity’s run for office. The star felt John Lennon ripped him off. Subsequently, John said that interpretation of events was ridiculous.
The Beatles | John Pratt / Stringer The Beatles’ ‘Come Together’ was inspired by a writer who advocated the use of LSD
Timothy Leary was an author and notable advocate of LSD. Leary was famous for The Psychedelic Experience, a book about drugs based on The Tibetan Book of the Dead. He exerted a considerable influence over the psychedelic 1960s counterculture, including The Beatles. For example, he briefly ran for governor of California and John tried to write a campaign song for him.
The book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono features a 1980 interview. In it, John was asked about “Come Together.” “The thing was created in the studio,” he said.

According to The Billboard Book of Number 1 Hits, the Billboard Hot 100 started in 1958. The first song to top the Billboard Hot 100 was “Poor Little Fool” by Ricky Nelson. For the next several years, A-sides and B-sides were counted separately on the Billboard chart.

John Lennon might have been the first Beatle to mentally check out of the band. As he fell into a deep depression in the mid-1960s that he compared to going through murder, Paul McCartney became the de facto leader of the band. By then, the whole group had committed to not playing live, though John performed one more concert without his bandmates before leaving the group. Still, John lost a bet to Elton John and made one more proper, final concert appearance in the mid-1970s.
(l-r) Elton John and John Lennon | Steve Morley/Redferns John Lennon lost a bet with Elton John that led to his final major concert appearance
John all but stopped playing live when The Beatles stopped touring. Elton John single-handedly got the ex-Beatle back on stage in 1974, and it was the final time John Lennon played original songs in front of a massive concert crowd.
