Scott Adkins brings redeemed Russian Mma fighter Yuri Boyka back to the screen for the third time, delivering another helping of blistering bloody bouts of carefully choreographed carnage. Outside the ring, director Todor Chapkanov fails to complement the action with a solid narrative or naturalistic dialogue, but fans of the Undisputed series won’t care one bit. For the late-night action crowd, Boyka: Undisputed is a knockout. Picking up some years after the events in Undisputed III: Redemption, we catch up with the world’s most complete fighter in Kiev, still honing his trade for cash on the underground fight circuit. Boyka (Adkins) has found religion, donating all of his winnings to a local church, but the demons of his past sins continue to haunt him....

Well, this sales art from Cannes is all we have right now to let you know that Marko Zaror and Scott Adkins are reuniting for a new film from Jesse V. Johnson called Savage Dog. Is there anything at all that you can tell us? I mean, damn, Marko Zaror and Scott Adkins are in it. Is that not enough? Keep typing, Nancy. Well, the director Jesse V. Johnson, has been a...

If you've never heard of Scott Adkins before, that's a shame, because the man definitely knows how to kick some ass. Although much of his filmography consists of direct-to-video fare, it'd be a mistake to write them off as films like Undisputed III: Redemption, Universal Soldier: Day Of Reckoning, and Ninja 2: Shadow Of A Tear offer some of the best most hard hitting... Mpi Media Group has acquired all North American distribution rights to the action-thriller “Redeemer,” which reunites director Ernesto Díaz Espinoza with Chilean action star Marko Zaror, who previously worked together on “Kiltro,” “Mirageman” and “Undisputed III: Redemption.” “Redeemer” stars Zaror as Pardo, an ex-hitman who's made a deal with God to hunt down the men he used to work for. As a vigilante, he stops criminals in their tracks and gives them only one chance to ask for forgiveness. Bad guys being bad guys, they rarely listen, so Pardo disposes of them in gruesome ways. John Hyams’s last two films—Universal Soldier: Regeneration (2009) and Dragon Eyes (2012)—were distinguished by their keen sense of action-setpiece construction and their potent use of motion and space. Regeneration, the weightier and more accomplished of the two, even achieved a sort of tragic grandeur; its images of empty-eyed soldiers fighting ceaselessly in irradiated urban ruins play like action-movie poetry.
Hyams’ new film, however, is an ambitious radical departure—a ballsy, heady genre mutant that confirms that Hyams is something more than just a smart and talented action traditionalist. Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning—slippery, chilly, queasy—grafts an art-horror movie on to the rootstock of a violent action flick. It bears only a passing resemblance to Regeneration, and has even less in common with the original Universal Soldier (1992); in fact, the two films it brings to mind are Lost Highway and Videodrome.

Today, The Expendables 2 comes crashing into movie theaters across the country like a tank. With its Herculean roster of action legends, one name you might not yet recognize on the poster is that of Scott Adkins. We must stress, the “yet.” Adkins is currently fighting his way, literally, up the action cinema food chain. He appeared in such films as Ninja and The Bourne Ultimatum. He wowed many of us with his turn as vicious prisoner brawler Yuri Boyka in the Undisputed franchise. In Undisputed III: Redemption, he held his own with Mirageman himself, Marko Zaror. In addition to The Expendables 2, Adkins will again star alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren in Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, the “fourth” film in the franchise that was just announced as part of the second wave of this year’s Fantastic Fest. Not one to slow down, Adkins also stars in the action movie El Gringo, which...

Title: Assassin’s Bullet Director: Isaac Florentine Cast: Christian Slater, Donald Sutherland, Elika Portnoy, Timothy Spall I feel bad for Christian Slater, Donald Sutherland and Timothy Spall. They must have either been manipulated into acting in Assassin’s Bullet, or straight out lied to. Those would be the only logical assumptions that can be made for why anyone would make the decision to be in this catastrophic disaster. Director Isaac Florentine, who also directed the Mma-based films, Undisputed II: Last Man Standing and Undisputed III: Redemption, now brings us a new film in his catalogue, called Assassin’s Bullet, which hits an all-time low. For the aforementioned Mma films, you could make the argument [ Read More ]...

It's a pity that Assassin's Bullet, possibly the first Isaac Florentine film to receive a Stateside theatrical release, happens to be one of his weakest. A martial-artist-turned-filmmaker, Florentine (born Yitzhak Florentin) has carved out a niche in the direct-to-video world as an old-school action director with a knack for choreographing and composing fight scenes. Wide-angles lenses, longish shot durations (by contemporary standards, anyway), and a sense of follow-through are the hallmarks of Florentine's action-directing style—an appreciative aesthetic where every element serves the bodies and movements of the athlete-performers (Florentine's leads are more often than not Mma fighters, more than capable of doing their own stunts).
Originally titled Sofia (as in the city), Assassin's Bullet is a sub-De Palma riff on the Bulgarian capital's status as a popular B-movie shooting location. This identity disorder—Sofia is one of contemporary cinema's most filmed cities, yet rarely plays itself— is personified by...

Most won't recognize director Isaac Florentine's name, but he's one of the better straight-to-video action directors around. He's been in the business for decades, but in recent years he's really started to shine with movies like Ninja and Undisputed sequels Last Man Standing and Redemption. If you haven't seen any of them, but you respect a good kick to the face, you should definitely check them out. Undisputed III: Redemption in particular could teach Hollywood a thing or two about how to choreograph a fight scene so it looks bone-crunchingly realistic. Florentine's latest is Assassin's Bullet and it's actually getting a limited theatrical release on August 3 ahead of its home video premiere on August 14. It looks to be a bit of a break from the...

Any movie that casts Dolph Lundgren and rising action hero Scott Adkins as rival cryptozoologists fighting over the discovery of a living, breathing killer Chinese dragon has my immediate attention.
Scott Adkins (Undisputed III: Redemption, Ninja) does battle with his The Expendables 2 and Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning co-star Dolph Lundgren in the monstrous action thriller Tomb of the Dragon.
Synopsis:
Travis, our heroic cryptozoologist, wants to prove that a prehistoric beast killing construction workers is more than just a myth. But at the same time his ruthless competitor, Harker, wants to prove he is the best in the business and outdo Travis in any way he can.\
Travis finds himself in a race against time to preserve the rare but deadly creature because Harker thrives on trophy killings and shoots to kill…including humans if they come between him and his prey.

So it looks like Kevin Tancharoen is going to get his chance to bring the fighting video game Mortal Kombat franchise back to the big screen. This is the guy who directed the Fame remake and the Glee 3D concert movie but none of those failures won him this gig. It was instead the virals that got fanboys tongues wagging last summer when he self-financed a promo trailer for what he could do if he was even given the chance to bring the world’s greatest fighting tournament back into theatres.
Titled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, the original 8 minute viral was of surprisingly high production value and included some recognisable faces, including Michael Jai White as the character Jax, Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade and explained in length the back-stories for Reptile, Baraka, Scorpion and a really well put together fight scene involving Johnny Cage.

Baseball has "Field of Dreams." Basketball has "Hoosiers." Hockey has "Slap Shot." In other words: you can't be a major American sport without a major American sports movie.
It looks like mixed martial arts might have found its major sports movie with this week's "Warrior," the story of two brothers (Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton) who both enter a massive Mma tournament. The film's already garnering rave reviews and strong social media word of mouth, and even generating some Oscar buzz. It looks on track to be one of the surprise hit of the fall.
While "Warrior" is certainly mixed martial arts' biggest and potentially most acclaimed appearance on the silver screen to date, it's far from the first movie set the world of Mma. We'll have our review of "Warrior" later in the week; in the meantime, here is a look at five important milestones on Mma's journey to cinematic legitimacy.

With the exciting announcement that Van Damme (here) is finally an Expendable in next summer’s action sequel from the director of Con Air, it seems that many have missed another announcement on Millennium Films’ website confirming Scott Adkins (who’s teamed with Jcvd a few times already) and Chuck Norris for roles.
Norris is believed to have a small cameo part, but Adkins, in what will be his first real theatrical role after wowing action fans in Undisputed III: Redemption and Assassination Games, would play a villain on Bruce Willis’ team.
Thoughts?...

Just the other day, my friends and I were commenting on how there aren’t tournament based fighting movies anymore, or at least not as cool as the heyday of Bloodsport. Tsk, tsk for us saying that, because Arena just might be our answer (okay, Undisputed III: Redemption was all sorts of awesome).
Imagine mixing Bloodsport, Deadly Warrior, and Crank together and you might come close to Arena, written by Tony Giglio (Death Race 2) and directed by Jonah Loop, former VFX artist. The film co-stars Samuel L. Jackson and Derek Mears (Predators), but focuses on stars Kellan Lutz, Nina Dobrev, James Remar and Daniel Dae Kim.
The action thriller Arena centers on a young man (Lutz) who is kidnapped by a sadistic mastermind (Jackson) and forced into a modern gladiator arena, where men fight to the death for the entertainment of the online masses. Kim is playing a fellow prisoner,...

I'm a huge vocal fan of Scott Adkins and particularly his work in the Undisputed series of Mma prison fight movies. Undisputed II: Last Man Standing introduced him as villainous Russian Yuri Boyka, who went toe to toe with Michael Jai White's wrongly imprisoned convict. Personally I prefer the fight sequences in the follow-up, Undisputed III: Redemption, which were choreographed by the award-winning Larnell Stovall - currently working with Adkins and Jean Claude Van Damme on the fourth Universal Soldier film. Stovall posted this picture on his Twitter feed recently, which features Adkins, Stovall and the mighty Mjw all on set together, further fueling long-held rumours that White was involved. Could this mean a rematch for two of the best onscreen fighters in the business?...

Hollywood has kind of given up on the fight movie. Every now and then one slips past the guards and ends up on the big screen, but for the most part you have to dive into the Pacific Rim if you want to find a good, simple action movie that pits one man's fist against another man's face with no CGI malarkey to get in the way. Now there's nothing wrong with Asian fight films - I love me some Tony Jaa and Donnie Yen as much as the next guy - but the patriot in me wishes there were more American-made fight films worth talking about these days.
That's why it brings me enormous pleasure to be able to recommend to fellow fight film fans Undisputed III: Redemption. Now, I know what you're thinking: "But I haven't seen Undisputed one or two!" Doesn't matter. I think we all know...

Watch the short film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, which was made as a test film for a feature R-rated Mortal Kombat movie from Warner Bros. Pictures. Short features popular game characters including Baraka, Sonya Blade, Scorpion, Reptile and Johnny Cage. LatinoReview were the ones who caught on to this bad ass video and man is it awesome.
The site is also reporting that the short film was directed by Kevin Tancharoen (Fame) and they also have a breakdown of who starred in the short as well. Michael Jai White played Jacks, Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade, Lateef Crowder as Baraka, Ian Anthony Dale portraying Scorpion, Matt Mullins playing Johnny Cage with the fight choreography by Larnell Stovall (Undisputed III: Redemption). You can watch the full seven and a half minute short film below. Who would have thought the guy who directed Fame could put together something this freaking awesome. This movie needs to happen now.

For years, people have been trying to get a third Mortal Kombat movie off the ground, and yet for obvious reasons, it never came to pass. The terrible Mortal Kombat: Annihilation basically ensured that another sequel would never see the light of day, but when Warner Brothers picked up the rights to the franchise last year, we started to hear plans about a possible reboot [1]. Now, this week, it looks like we may have our first real proof of said reboot in the form of a short film / promo trailer that has mysteriously found its way online. Did I mention that it happens to star Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite) as Jax and Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager) as Sonya Blade? About eight years ago, the first of the Undisputed series was released to a few theaters. It starred Wesley Snipes, Ving Rhames and Peter Falk among others. Despite the moderate star power, it didn’t do very well in the box office. Judging from the relative success of Undisputed II: Last Man Standing, which I have read is more similar to Undisputed III: Redemption, the first Undisputed only scratched the surface of what appeals to its desired fan base. By this third installment in the trilogy, they have done a much, much better job at hitting the proverbial target, and causing the target to spew its bloody mouth guard clear out of the ring. In slow-mo.

If you're thinking that it didn't take long for either Alice in Wonderland or The Wolfman to hit DVD, you're absolutely right. In the case of Alice in Wonderland, Disney shaved 3 weeks off of the usual release window while it's currently still making money at the box office... no wonder theatre owners were upset about this. Local action film fans enjoyed an extra special double-fisted dose of bone-jarring action at a free screening of Mandrill and Undisputed III: Redemption at Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar on Friday night. Scott Adkins returns to whup ass in “Undisputed III: Redemption”. If you don’t know the name Scott Adkins by now, then you’ve been missing out on some really good old school action, and I suggest you get on Netflix or Amazon and rectify that right now, buddy. His latest is “Redemption”, and it hurricane kicks its way onto DVD, Blu-Ray, Combo Pack, and On Demand June 1, 2010 from Warner Bros. Home Video Entertainment. Eight elite fighters — prisoners from maximum security prisons around the world — are brought together by a powerful underground gambling syndicate for a secret, survival-of-the-fiercest battle competition. The prize: freedom for the champion — and a payday of millions to the organizers. Except the syndicate really doesn’t plan on allowing anyone to walk free. Scott Adkins (the fearsome Weapon XI in X-Men Origins: Wolverine) returns as Boyka in a spin-kicking, iron-fisted, ground-and-pound fury of martial arts mastery.

If you’re a mixed martial artist with an inkling of acting talent, by all means, take advantage of the current wave of Mma action flicks which are making their way to video store shelves at an alarming rate. “Blood & Bone” is already collecting dust, and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s “Damage” is scheduled for release sometime next year. And those are just a few I’m pulling off the top of my head. Now, apparently, “Undisputed 3,” the second sequel nobody wanted, is ready for mass consumption. Considering how interchangeable these films really are, does anyone really care? Are there enough fans of the original films to warrant another follow-up? Apparently so. Directed by Isaac Florentine (”Bridge of Dragons,” “Undisputed 2″), the film follows yet another illegal prison fight club and the large, angry men who participate in it. The first place prize: freedom, sweet and pure. If you were expecting more of a story,...

Many thanks to the loyalists at Scott Adkins Fanz for pointing the way to three brand new stills from upcoming martial arts picture Undisputed 3. We’ve been tracking this one fairly closely thanks to the fan loved heaped on Undisputed 2, the rising profile of star Scott Adkins and the presence of Chilean fighter Marko Zaror making his English language debut in the picture. You can find the first shots of Adkins and Zaror facing off on set in the Twitch archive here. And now there’s more. Cinematographer has added five fresh shots from the shoot to his website - one fantastic close up of a bloody Adkins, plus shots of several other fighters - including Zaror - squaring off in the ring. Very tasty.

What’s better than getting word that Marko Zaror (Mirage Man, Kiltro, Mandrill) would be facing off with Scott Adkins (Ninja, The Tournament, Undisputed 2) in Undisputed 3? The two are, after all, arguably two of the greatest screen fighters still waiting for their big break into the mainstream, both of them very large, very fast, very strong and extremely talented. How about word that Zaror and Adkins haven’t been holding anything back on set, apparently staging their fights with real contact - including head shots. After all, the easiest way to make something look authentic is to have it actually be authentic.
And we’ve got more than just the word of someone on set about this, we’ve actually got the first shots to leak out of the set featuring both men looking a little beat up and Zaror shedding his regular clean cut, nice guy look to sell his villainous character.

I first heard rumblings of this last week but, at the time, needed to wait for i’s to be dotted and t’s to be crossed before things became official which apparently has just happened. ScottAdkinsFanz is confirming that Chilean martial artist Marko Zaror (Kiltro, Mirage Man, Mandrill) has signed on to co-star with Scott Adkins in the upcoming Undisputed 3. According to Zaror, he will be the villain of the piece, which is due to start shooting in the middle of this month. I guess this means I need to look up the first two Undisputed films ...
For those unfamiliar with Zaror his latest training video is embedded below the break.

Whenever a discussion is brought up on who is the next action star, I would undoubtedly put my money on Scott Adkins. Like I said before in a previous post, the guy is a talented Martial Artist and an awesome on-screen fighter with a solid track record in action films including the upcoming X-men Origins: Wolverine and Ninja. Beside his impressive physical abilities, he really showcase his acting chops in Undisputed II: Last Man Standing as Yuri Boyka, a Russian champion of a illegal prison fight circuit. Even though Scott was the villain, he arguably stole the show from Michael Jai White with his memorable badass performance. Its easy to see why his character is stepping up to the main lead for Undisputed 3. In preparation for getting back to the ring and deliver some bone crunching fight scenes, Scott is hitting the gym and training intensively. Scott Adkins Fanz...

The astute among you may recall the name Scott Adkins being tossed around a lot while we worked on solving the Deadpool Mystery. Our final conclusion pegged the mysterious, half-naked ninja-spin-kicking dude as Deadpool as portrayed by Scott Adkins, master ass kicker. In our search, we made friends with some people who follow Adkins' career pretty closely and they sent us over some goodies to have a look at so I thought we'd share. First, a video of Scott training for the starring role in Undisputed 3, a direct to video sequel in the Undisputed series that will most definitely feature Scott murdering people with his fists. I'm a bit of an egotistical meat-head sometimes and often look at people, professional boxers, and actors and think to myself "I could take him." Seriously. I've measured my odds against tons of people and, most likely mistakenly, assume I'll come out on top. But...
