Martin Amis, the British author known for novels including Money, London Fields and The Information, has died. He was 73.
His wife, writer Isabel Fonseca, told The New York Times that Amis died Friday at his home in Lake Worth, Florida, following a battle with esophageal cancer.
The news comes as Jonathan Glazer’s film The Zone of Interest, which loosely adapts Amis’ 2014 novel of the same name, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday to enthusiastic response.
Other film adaptations of his work include the 2018 feature London Fields that starred Billy Bob Thornton, Amber Heard, Jim Sturgess, Theo James, Jason Isaacs and Cara Delevingne. Amis co-wrote the film’s screenplay that was based on his 1989 mystery novel.
Born in Oxford, England, on August 25, 1949, Amis attended Exeter College at the University of Oxford. His first novel, The Rachel Papers (1973), won the Somerset Maugham Award.

It seems that infamous drug kingpin El Chapo is just as sought after while incarcerated as he was while fleeing from justice – at least as far as Hollywood is concerned. Despite rival projects being developed at other studios, Sony Pictures has won a heated race to acquire the screen rights for a not-yet published book on the subject, and is consequently working its own movie – tentatively titled Hunting El Chapo.
In 2014, it was reported that Universal had hired Craig Borten (Dallas Buyers Club) to adapt Patrick Radden Keefe’s New Yorker article, titled The Hunt For El Chapo. The studio had set Peter Berg (Patriots Day) to produce and direct, and it seemed like a perfect fit. Little more has been heard about that project, however, and now, it seems the window of opportunity for that movie might be rapidly closing. Patrick Radden Keefe’s New Yorker article may well...

The North American release date for the latest instalment of the much-loved Mario & Luigi series has finally been revealed. Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam will arrive on January 22nd, 2016 for the 3Ds, which is quite a bit earlier than its initial Spring 2016 release date. Michael Winterbottom has spoken about directing Cara Delevingne in his latest movie and claimed she's "not an actor in the traditional sense".
The model-turned-actress stars in Winterbottom's The Face of an Angel, a drama closely inspired by the events surrounding the murder of British student Meredith Kercher in 2007.
Speaking to The Guardian's G2 supplement, the director revealed that he hadn't heard of Delevingne before he met her.
"I didn't really know who she was, but as soon as I met her I knew she'd be perfect for [the role]," he said.

Michael Winterbottom's new film is based on the true-crime book Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox, in the same way that his 2005 comedy A Cock and Bull Story was based on Tristram Shandy. That's to say, it's got an evasive and recursive narrative, all about a film-maker failing to make a film about a murder case like the one covered by the book.

Cara Delevingne's film The Face of an Angel has unveiled a new trailer.
The Michael Winterbottom trailer centres on the trial of Amanda Knox, who was accused of sexually assaulting and killing British student Meredith Kercher.
Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were convicted of the crime. Knox served four years before being acquitted. However, she was found guilty once again in a retrial.
Daniel Brühl and Kate Beckinsale also star in the film, which is heavily inspired by Barbie Latza Nadeau's book Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox.
Brühl stars as a filmmaker who travels to Italy to research a film adaptation of the book. He soon forges a friendship with a British student, played by Delevingne.
The Face of an Angel will be released in the UK on March 27 and in the Us on June 30.

The last Smash Bros. console iteration was released over 6 years ago and the gap before that was 7 years. That’s okay though, because it makes this gathering of the iconic and memorable characters all the more special each time it happens. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U arrives in a context that is in stark contrast compared to 2008’s Brawl release. Nintendo’s latest and first ever HD machine is struggling and the company has to prove the system’s worth with titles two years into the Wii U’s life cycle that could make or break the console’s success. A lot of pressure has been put on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and it needs to be absolutely stellar to meet the expectations both Nintendo and fans have put on it.

The View's discussion of working moms on Monday's show hit close to home for co-host Sherri Shepherd. "Why do you have to go to work, why do you have to… and you are trying to explain to them mommy is trying to pay the bills," Shepherd said during a discussion about being a working parent. "Mommy's trying to take care of you." Currently in a custody case over her unborn child with husband Lamar Sally, Shepherd's ex-husband, Jeffrey Tarpley, also filed emergency court documents in April seeking temporary physical custody of their 9-year-old son, Jeffrey. The top-selling 10% of films and DVDs dominated the box-office and home entertainment revenues in Australia in the early 21st Century but a significant .long tail. emerged for DVDs.
That.s according to a study by Jock Given, Professor of Media and Communications at the Swinburne Institute for Social Research, and Marion McCutcheon, a Research Fellow at the Institute.
In that time the annual number of movies screened in cinemas increased by 25% while the number of DVDs jumped nearly tenfold between 2002 and 2009 but then fell by 20% in the two years to 2011.
The authors conclude there is a .long tail. in revenue-earning for the lowest-selling DVDs but virtually none for the lowest-grossing movies.
Their research was based on B.O. data from the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia and DVD figures from market researchers GfK Australia for 2002-2011, for a project about the distribution of fiction content, supported by the Australian Research Council,...

The odds were probably stacked against the premiere of the second series of Puberty Blues on Network Ten last night.
The critically-lauded drama had a weak lead-in from The Biggest Challenge Australia, had to contend with the last quarter hour of Seven's My Kitchen Rules and Nine's The Block Fans vs Faves, and was launched at a time when Ten.s overall audience numbers are low. Ten's all-people share was just 9.4% last night.
In light of all that, the Southern Star Entertainment show did as well as it could, drawing 544,000 viewers in the five capital cities, 737,000 nationally.
That was a lot better than The Biggest Challenge.s 325,000/463,000 nationally but well below the show.s first season, when audiences were in the 700,000-800,000 range.
Ten can take some encouragement from the show's peak audience of 685,000 and that it won the timeslot in the 13-29 demographic, although its target audience is 25-...

The "Underworld" beauty donned a white sweater with black leggings and boots as she hurried through the busy terminal.
In career news, Miss Beckinsale's new film "The Face of an Angel" continues to receive a lot of attention following Amanda Knox's new murder conviction.
The drama follows the murder investigation of Miss Knox's roommate, which involves the trials in Italy.
Based on American journalist Barbie Latz Nadeau's book "Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox," the film also stars Daniel, Bruhl, Cara Delevingne, and Rosie Fellner.

Much like the media sensationalism around the Amanda Knox trial itself, there have been misleading reports that Michael Winterbottom’s new film The Face Of An Angel is an Amanda Knox exposé.
“It’s not a film about Amanda Knox,” Michael Winterbottom says emphatically about his new film, being sold at Efm by WestEnd Films. “The case in our film is a fictional case.”
“Once people see the film the talk about [Amanda Knox] will stop,” he adds.
It’s easy to see why there is some confusion, as Winterbottom acquired the rights to Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox by the American journalist Barbie Latza Nadeau. But he uses that book just as a jumping off point for his original script (written by Paul Viragh).

Amanda Knox is back in the news after an Italian court overturned her not guilty verdict in the murder case of Meredith Kercher and now “The Face of an Angel” has released a teaser trailer.
The forthcoming BBC Films project is a fictional adaptation of Barbie Latza Nadeau’s book “Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox.”
And given the cast, including Kate Beckinsale, Cara Delevigne and Daniel Bruhl, it looks like the flick may actually do pretty well.
Per the synopsis, “A reporter covers the media circus surrounding the murder of an American student in Tuscany while a documentary filmmaker films a movie about the trial.”...

She already got the Lifetime treatment. Now Amanda Knox is getting a fictional adaptation loosely based on her murder trial and the nonfiction book Angel Face: Sex, Murder, and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox by Barbie Latza Nadeau. The film, The Face of an Angel, is billed as a psychological thriller, and a first-look teaser came out this week. It stars Kate Beckinsale as journalist Simone Ford, who wrote a book about the trial. As for the real-life victim, Meredith Kercher, and the accused, Amanda Knox, their names have been changed to Jessica and Elizabeth. In The Face of an Angel, Simone pairs up with a British filmmaker Thomas (Daniel Brühl), who travels to Italy to make a film based on her work. In comes model Cara Delevingne. While in Italy, the newly divorced filmmaker strikes up a relationship with a young, intriguing British student, Melanie, played by Delevingne.

To be fair to the Michael Winterbottom film, the names have changed, and the story is really more interested in the reporter and documentary filmmaker covering the Amanda Knox affair. (The project is based on the non-fiction book Angel Face: Sex, Murder, and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox, by journalist Barbie Latza Nadeau. Blame her for the title.) But yes: Italy, two beautiful girls, sex, murder … it's all here, in a conveniently timed teaser. Nice to see Daniel Brühl, though.

Today we have the first teaser trailer for "The Face of an Angel" film, which is based on the story of Amanda Knox, who was convicted of killing her roommate in 2009, spending two years in prison for the crime, before having her sentence overturned. Check it out below. Even though the story is based on the book "Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox," director Michael Winterbottom explained that his movie will not focus on the trial. Instead, the main characters will be a documentary maker (Daniel Bruhl) and a reporter (Kate Beckinsale). And Knox has been renamed to Jessica. "Our film is actually about losing a daughter, losing someone close to you; why are we so interested in violence and why are we not more interested in love," said the director. And this is why the film will completely ignore the fact that the Italian...
