Forgettable romantic comedy

Warning: Spoilers
"If love was that easy" is a 90-minute romantic movie with some drama and comedy and it is all centered around Yvonne Catterfeld. She was still in her 20s back then and one of Germany's biggest stars who were actors and singers at the same time. However, her success has really much more to do with great looks and charisma than with particularly much acting talent. The film's title already indicates what this movie is about and it fits: cheesy romance. The good thing you could say is that it is not immediately clear who Catterfeld's character is gonna fall in love with, but looking at how all the guys are after her of course, it's not necessarily that good either. Especially the kissing scene with her colleague early on is pretty cringeworthy.

The female filmmaker team (Feistl/Jago) has done some television work before, but little of it really made an impact. It's quality-wise probably all the same level as this movie, which means mostly forgettable. Stephan Luca, Sebastian Ströbl and (the late) Ingeborg Westphal are all three very prolific television actors, but also not the greatest talents under the sun (especially the two guys). Luca has almost become a synonym for low-quality romance movies on television by now.

The story can be summarized quickly. A young woman inherits a lot of money from her father's cousin, but all she really wants is a family, so she tries to bond with the other people in this film, who she has not known before. The dialogs and most of the action (random instant marriage proposals, sudden plot changes as to how she is not the daughter actually) are just a bit embarrassing and never convincing and the ending is utter kitsch. Not recommended.
