Rainn Wilson is opening up about his mental health during the years he was filming The Office.
The actor who gave life to Dwight Schrute throughout the nine seasons of the U.S. remake of the British sitcom created by Ricky Gervais was on the Bill Maher podcast Club Random where he revealed that being on the show felt like “wasn’t enough” to him professionally.
“When I was in The Office, I spent several years really mostly unhappy because it wasn’t enough,” Wilson said.
He added, “I’m on one of the great TV shows. People love it. I wasn’t enjoying it. I was thinking about, ‘Why am I not a movie star? Why am I not the next Jack Black or the next Will Ferrell? How come I can’t have a movie career? Why don’t I have this development deal?'”

The Trouble With Bliss, which premiered last year at the Newport Beach International Film Festival, is finally scheduled to arrive in theaters and with the news comes the first trailer. Adapted and directed by Michael Knowles, the film is based on the novel East Fifth Bliss by Douglas Light Watch the trailer below and head over to Apple to see it in HD. Hesher
(released September 13th, 2011)
Review:
Hesher is one of those films that perfectly straddles the line in-between being a very dark drama and a comedy at the same time. You find yourself being very depressed in moments of this film, but a scene or two later you’ll be laughing out loud.
The main character of the film is a young kid named T.J. (Devin Brochu) who has recently lost his mother in a car accident. Then comes along a guardian angel of sorts in the form of Hesher (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Hesher moves into T.J.’s garage, with T.J.’s father (Rainn Wilson) in severe depression he doesn’t really do much to try and get him to leave. T.J. along the way also meets Nicole (Natalie Portman) who reminds him of his mother. Through the different situations that Hesher either pushes T.J. into himself or that T.

One quick note on today's ratings before you have a look, the rating for The Presence may actually be for Lionsgate's The Possession, which was previously titled Dibbuk Box. I believe the only people who truly enjoyed high school are those who breezed through the experience. For the rest of us, those four (or more) years of high school falls somewhere on a sliding scale of misery ranging from an annoying itch to a torturous punishment inflicted by the worst kind of mad scientist.
Stereotypes are common in films about teenagers, especially when set against the backdrop of high school. The truth is, teenagers and stereotypes go hand-in-hand. Without teenagers, there would be no stereotypes, but the burnouts, jocks and preppies of the .80s no longer apply in the new millennium. No, the typical characters of the John Hughes era have evolved along a parallel plane into some not better or worse, but different.
Director Azazel Jacobs (Momma.S Man, The Good Times Kids) delves into the strange world of the high school outsider with Terri, written by first-timer Patrick Dewitt.

Chicago – “Peep World” plays like the pilot for a failed sitcom that will never end. The running time clocks in at a mere 79 minutes, but the ordeal feels so much longer. One can imagine the canned laughter on TV Land appreciating these gags, which are embarrassingly lame. It’s not long before the miserable, ashen-faced characters begin to mirror the audience.
What’s astounding is the sheer level of comedic talent that has somehow been assembled for this mess. Rainn Wilson, Sarah Silverman, Judy Greer, Ben Schwartz and Stephen Tobolowsky have far better things to do than waste time with this dreck. Were they really dying to work with director Barry W. Blaustein, whose last comedy was 2005’s offensive Special Olympics satire, “The Ringer”? Or were they swayed by the utterly humorless script by Peter Himmelstein, best known for doing the title design in “Slums of Beverly Hills”?

Sarah Silverman made the podcast rounds a while back to talk up The Bedwetter, her bestselling memoir, and Peep World, an ensemble comedy-drama in which she co-starred. The latter project radiated promise. Beyond a cast that included Michael C. Hall, Rainn Wilson, Judy Greer, Ron Rifkin, Taraji P. Henson, Ben Schwartz (Jean-Ralphio on Parks And Recreation), Kate Mara, Alicia Witt, Lesley Ann Warren, and Stephen Tobolowsky, Peep World promised a much-buzzed-about Silverman nude scene, which seems to have ended up on the cutting-room floor. Comedy geeks had ample cause to anticipate a Peep World theatrical release, but it never arrived ...

Family gatherings can be rough even when the only things to fight about are the age old grievances borne from childhood conflicts and parental resentment. Add in one of the siblings writing an expose on the messed up lives of all the family members and the backbiting and name calling reaches new heights. Peep World tells the story of one such family; a family that already hated one another for various personality quirks and failings, only to have said faults written out for the world to read. The film makes an interesting statement about the harmful effect of bringing the wrong kind of attention to delicate matters while also commenting on our culture that places value on behind-the-scenes access even if it ultimately harms how relationships play out. Director Barry W. Blaustein’s dark comedy couldn’t have asked for a better cast, but it can’t keep up the...

Beauty and the Beast (Criterion Collection) I stayed up late so I could watch this before posting today's column. I'd seen this film only once before, as part of my Janus collection, but that release contains none of the special features available on the full Criterion disc, such as two commentaries, Phillip Glass' opera based on Cocteau's film, interviews, featurettes and a restoration trailer. All of which I didn't have a chance to explore yet, but will shortly and will tell you all about them in a review that is already half-written after watching the film this late evening.
So, in short, yes, for the film alone this is worth the purchase. This is a wonderful and fantastical telling of the story that most only know nowadays through Disney's animated version. However, if you ask me, Disney's version pales in comparison.

The Music Room (Criterion) Satyajit Ray’s 1958 masterpiece looks at the life of a fallen aristocrat as a metaphor for an India that is not only becoming Westernized, but modernized technologically and culturally beyond recognition. When the beloved music room, where he has hosted lavish concerts in the past, starts falling into disrepair as attendance drops steadily, the man realizes his way of life is vanishing. Stunningly shot in black & white, one of Ray’s finest works. Bonuses: Documentary on Ray from 1984 by Shyam Benegal; Interviews with Ray biographer Andrew Robinson and filmmaker Mira Nair; Excerpt from 1981 roundtable discussion between Ray, critic Michael Ciment, director Claude Sautet. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Full screen. Dolby 1.0 mono.
Beauty And The Beast (Criterion) Jean Cocteau’s sublime adaptation of the classic fairy tale become a beloved classic upon its 1946 release, and hasn’t faded since.

If The Hangover Part II didn't quench your thirst for off-color jokes with its crack about trafficking children, surely Porn Rental -- a new short with Peep World co-stars Ben Schwartz and Michael C. Hall -- will make up the difference. In the three-minute comedy, Schwartz plays a video store patron who wants child pornography and Hall plays a bewildered clerk. Nutty? Yes. Funny? You be the judge.

IFC will release the spirited 2010 comedy Peep World on Blu-ray and DVD on July 19 for the list prices of $29.98 and $24.98, respectively.
Sarah Silverman puts up her dukes in the comedy Peep World.
Directed by Barry Blaustein (The Ringer) and written by first-time screenwriter Peter Himmelstein, the movie zeroes in on the growing tensions between four siblings as they dine with their father (Ron Rifkin, TV’s Brothers and Sisters) to celebrate his 70th birthday. The “kids” consists of two brothers who are, respectively, a porn addict (Michael C. Hall, TV’s Dexter) and a screw-up (Rainn Wilson, TV’s The Office), a bitchy actress sister (Sarah Silverman, Saint John of Las Vegas) and a third son (Ben Schwartz, TV’s Parks and Recreation) who has just published the hot novel Peep World, a very thinly veiled portrait of the family. For women, breaking into comedy is a tough enough nut to crack without the chauvinistic "women aren't funny" comments. Not only is it not true, but with a male-dominated writer's field in Hollywood (73 percent of the WGA's film writers are men) it's only too clear that if women aren't funny onscreen it's probably because the only funny thing they had to do in the script was fall down and go boom boom.
The widely accepted paradigm in movies (not to mention TV) is having an out-of-shape or mildly attractive but funny husband and his hot, not-as-funny wife. And it's getting stale, baby. In order for a woman to go against that grain takes massive ovaries, the ability to generate her own material, and absolutely no fear of looking stupid.
Here are our picks for the 20 funniest women working in movies today.

Michael C. Hall has had no problem being a TV star. He broke out in "Six Feet Under" and currently leads the popular "Dexter," but his moves into film have been less successful. "Gamer" was terrible and "Peep World" never lived up to the promise it had on paper. But he's hoping that James Manos Jr., the man who adapted Jeff Lindsay's "Dexter," will have the key to break him into something worthwhile. Deadline reports that Hall and Vera Farmiga are set to star in "Love, Scotch and Death," a wacky sounding, semi-autobiographical film. Manos wrote and originally titled the…...

The foul-mouthed comedian Sarah Silverman, 40, has appeared on the big screen a few times, mostly as cranky girlfriends or sisters (School Of Rock, most recently Peep World) and appeared on her own TV comedy variety hour, The Sarah Silverman Program. But for the first time (that I can recall, anyway), network execs are utilizing Silverman to, well, act.

Jane Eyre led all limited releases thanks to its theater count advantage, and Win Win showed signs of growth potential. None of the weekend's new entries really stood out, with sports drama The 5th Quarter stumbling out of the gate and controversial drama Miral failing to leverage substantial press coverage.Jane Eyre finished in 16th place on the overall weekend chart, up 108 percent to $969,993. This gain was mostly attributed to an increase from 26 to 90 theaters, but the movie's per-theater average declined 40 percent to $10,778. The Mia Wasikowska-Michael Fassbender drama continued to outperform similar movies The Duchess and The Young Victoria, which ended their runs with $13.9 million and $11 million, respectively. With $1.9 million so far, Jane Eyre is set to expand to at least 150 locations this coming weekend. Win Win added 18 theaters for a total of 23 and was up 209 percent to $464,420. That's just a few thousand dollars behind what Jane Eyre did in its second weekend,...

Peep World is an excruciating assemblage of one-dimensional nags, linked under a sub-par quasi-Wes Anderson family dysfunction narrative umbrella. It’s a portrait of estranged narcissistic siblings, a high-society Los Angeles architect’s grown sons and daughter, who misbehave and alienate everyone around them amid convoluted circumstances drawn exclusively from the long tradition of stories about the intelligentsia’s human failings. Filmmaker Barry W. Blaustein casts talented people as his leads in the story of that high-powered family, forever fractured by their youngest brother/son’s tell-all expose. An uneasy dinner brings each repulsive figure together: Depressed family man Jack (Michael C. Hall), the good-for-nothing Joel (Rainn Wilson), the cavalcade of neuroses that is Cheri (Sarah Silverman) and bestselling author Nathan (Ben Schwartz), who made his name by cashing in on the clan’s darkest secrets. They’re joined by their distant mom (Lesley Ann Warren) and bag-of-sleaze dad (Henry Rifkin), who should be prosecuted for...

Speaking with Movieline at the end of a long day of interviews for Peep World, an ensemble comedy-drama in which she plays a spoiled aspiring ingenue, comedian/television star/film actress/bestselling author Sarah Silverman clutches a red backpack close, prepared to escape the strange confines of the luxury hotel she's been sitting in for hours. At odds with the confrontational comic persona that dominates her screen and stage persona, Silverman is gracious and thoughtful discussing her character, the wonders of Twitter, and more, but there's one thing she's really tired of: Being known as the "Jewish comedian Sarah Silverman."...

Word on the IFC-distributed comedy "Peep World" has been enormously quiet, even for those who scour for the latest in upcoming indies. With a cast consisting of Michael C. Hall, Sarah Silverman, Rainn Wilson, Judy Greer, Kate Mara, Ronn Rifkin, and Lesley Ann Warren flying under the radar like this without any buzz, it can't be a good thing. Barry W. Blaustein's second foray into narrative filmmaking (his first was, and let us never forget it, "The Ringer") is devoid of what makes comedy films work, including the whole "making the audience laugh" part. There's not much debate over what the biggest new release of the weekend is, as Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch is expected to put a serious dent in the box office. However, early reviews have been overwhelmingly negative... will it keep people away from his latest fantasy / sci-fi epic? There aren't many alternatives out there with Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules being the only other wide release in the U.S. Fortunately, for those of us north of the border, Jason Eisener's Hobo with a Shotgun is debuting in a pretty decent number of theatres as well. In select theatres we also have Julian Schnabel's controversial drama Miral, Peep World starring Michael C. Hall and Sarah Silverman, and White Irish Drinkers, from the director of Helter Skelter and Brian's Song. What will you be checking out this weekend? Review of Peep World (1 out of 5 stars) - A shame that such a fun assemblage of talent went to waste. Peep world reviewGiven its fun cast, I wanted to like Peep World -- I really did! Instead, I found it dreadfully depressing, both for its mordant tone and, well, pure badness. The Myerwitz family, around whom the film revolves, are thoroughly unlikable, neither Sarah Silverman nor a big dinner scene at the end work, and while Lewis Black seems like the perfect choice for voiceovers, his narration often feels like overkill here. The action all takes place on Henry Myerwitz’s 70th birthday, during which his four grown children grapple in their own ways with the recent and widespread publication of their family’s most humiliating secrets. Each of the four siblings complains endlessly, and rarely in a way that’s amusing. Jack (Michael C. Hall) runs a failing design...

If you really must go to the theater to see 1 film this weekend, and you’re in a “support the brothas and sistahs” mindset, And you want to see a good movie, I suggest checking out Mooz-lum or I Will Follow, provided they’re playing near you. Stay far away from Sucker Punch. Trust me
Synopsis for Peep World reads: “On the day of their father’s 70th birthday party, four siblings come to terms with the publication of a novel written by the youngest sibling that exposes the family’s most intimate secrets.”
The ensemble cast comedy stars Michael C. Hall, Rainn Wilson, Sarah Silverman, of course, Taraji P. Henson and others. It also features Octavia Spencer (The Help) in a minor role.
Can’t really tell just how much of a part Taraji plays in this. She’s featured in the trailer a few times, but that doesn’t tells us much.

Peek through the murky little window that is Peep World and you'll see lots of actors you know from TV: Michael C. Hall of Dexter, Rainn Wilson of The Office, Sarah Silverman of The Sarah Silverman Program, Lesley Ann Warren of In Plain Sight and Desperate Housewives. While it's nice to see TV actors get a crack at the bigger screen, Peep World barely seems like a movie. Withered and shrunken, it feels even too small for TV, especially when you consider that many of these actors have spent time on shows where the writing actually matters.

You know, I thought I really didn't like Sarah Silverman. And then I saw her on Conan, and she was sort of understated and adorable and smart. She'll probably do something that really makes me angry again soon, but if today has taught me anything, it is that I am changeable and that Sarah Silverman is really honest about kids. On moms who wear headphones on the subway with their toddlers: "It's like, 'I can't hear you little boy.' But I kind of get it, because kids are crying all the time, and there's no escape."
There's also a great video of her talking to her tiny dog about what she should do with him when he dies.

She's written and performed on "Saturday Night Live," had a self-titled program on Comedy Central and f**ed Matt Damon (in song, we mean, on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"), so it's about time Sarah Silverman gets "serious" about a movie career.
Silverman follows up sporadic screen roles in "School of Rock," "Rent" and "School for Scoundrels" with "Peep World," a new dysfunctional family comedy co-starring Michael C. Hall, Rainn Wilson and Ben Schwartz. She plays one of the three siblings devastated by their younger brother's tell-all novel, which exposes many intimate family secrets, as the family gathers for their father's 70th birthday.
The comedian/actress/writer/singer/musician was sleep-deprived and frantically rushing to pack for a trip when we got her on the horn — but her sometimes stream-of-consciousness answers kept us laughing regardless.
Your character in "Peep World," Cheri, is suing her brother Nathan for libel. In real life, how litigious are you?...

More than a few reviews of (and interviews connected to) "Peep World' have called out its basic similarities to the TV series "Arrested Development." Just looking at the characters alone, which include easily aligned counterparts for most of the Bluth clan, not to mention a celeb narrator (Lewis Black), Peter Himmelstein's screenplay feels like it was written while watching DVDs of the Mitch Hurwitz comedy. It's almost enough to call it plagiarism. Only in this film's universe, Buster is smarter, more independent, has written a revealing 'novel' about his own family, and he's now presumably identifying with Woody Allen in…...

Ben Schwartz is that rare Hollywood up and comer, if only because in addition to working on everything from indie films to beloved television series to hot cable pilots to big-budget screenplays, he's also blessed with boundless enthusiasm. One conversation with the Peep World star (who you might also know as the hilariously douche-y Jean-Ralphio on Parks and Recreation), and you can't help walk away with a sense of Hollywood's limitless possibilities. We may never see an Arrested Development movie in our lifetime. Thankfully, Barry W. Blaustein has made Peep World, an ensemble comedy about an uproariously demented and out-of-touch family that gives the Bluth clan a run for its money. In the film, dysfunctional siblings Sarah Silverman, Rainn Wilson, and Michael C. Hall overreact when their youngest brother (Ben Schwartz) writes a tell-all book about the family's dirtiest secrets.
