This show is a hit
Episode 2 of Winx slows down with a fetch quest for Stella's ring, reducing the time spent on simmering romances. The editing is sloppy, with pop tracks playing during tense moments. The characters are different from Winx Club, and friendship is removed, creating a more palatable and average teen drama. The show may find its audience, but the changes to the source material make it resemble a rehash of Harry Potter, which may not be a positive aspect. As the first year faeries gather at the stone circle for their first magical lesson, Bloom struggles to control her magic and conjure up flames. Stella warns them to keep quiet about the missing ring and the Burned One. Bloom gains confirmation from Dowling that she is a Changeling, but Dowling doesn't know her parents. The first year faeries face challenges in controlling their magic and navigating the mysterious world of Changelings. The boys practice fighting moves outside, discussing the missing ring and a plan to bring it back. Riven, a male faerie, is recruited by Beatrix to help break into Dowling's office. At lunch, Sky and Bloom discuss the idea, with Sky suspiciously watching. Bloom agrees to return Stella's ring for her, but Sky is skeptical. Bloom heads to the stone circle, where Stella antagonizes Bloom, sparking flames. Stella pushes her to do more. Bloom begins using anger as a channel for her magical powers, which leads to hate and suffering. Aisha tries to dissuade Bloom from using anger as a method, but anger leads to hate and suffering. Musa finds a new love interest, Sam, while Terra grows closer to Dane. Riven antagonizes Dane, and he hurries away. Later, the fairies head off to retrieve Stella's ring. Aisha warns that negative emotions are unpredictable and unreliable, but the others refuse. They find the Burned One tied up in the barn, and Musa senses something outside. The others find a trail of dead bodies, but Saul is still alive and receives a potion to heal. Bloom, on her own, encounters the Burned One and defeats it with water. They also retrieve Stella's ring, which is inside the creature. Bloom recovers the ring and brings it back to Stella, allowing the trainee faeries to breathe a sigh of relief. Professor Harvey and Farah help Saul recover from a run-in with the Burned One. They discover Beatrix, who let the Burned One loose, is in Dowling's office, desperate to uncover its secrets. On a new day in Alfea, Terra, a Winx, prepares for their first class. She is ashamed of her body and the appearance of her friends, who have slim, wiry bodies and narrow hips. She feels identified with her, as everyone around her seems to have the perfect body. She is ashamed to take off a shirt, as it means being exposed and seen by everyone. This is difficult, especially when people around you can be cruel, especially to you. Terra prefers to change alone, where no one can see her. When Stella insults her, Terra takes it with humor, even if it means getting angry or crying. She decides to leave those moments behind and focus on the good, which is humiliating. After not feeling accepted for years, she decides to stop doing it, even if it means letting herself get ridiculed. Accepting these little taunts seems like a fair price to pay. In the episode, Sky meets Bloom, who is feeling sadness and defiance. Stella calls out to him, and Sky decides to leave with her. He feels guilty for being so dependent on a person, but he must end this relationship as Stella is not ready. Musa meets Sam, a boy she has been attracted to since the first time she felt him. He seems perfect for her, but he is Terra's brother, which is a world of trouble. The episode leaves us wondering if the burned one is a lone wolf, and Farah and everyone hope it is, but deep down they know it is not. The end comes when Bloom rolls her eyes, leaving us wondering why or what is wrong with her. The next episode improves the pilot by being calmer and more concrete, with some secrets discovered and plots and alliances advanced. The episode leaves us with anxiety, but it also improves the pilot's overall quality.
