Travelling the country to interview kids about their lives, fears, and what they think about the future, grizzled radio journalist Johnny hasn't spoken to his semi-estranged sister Viv for months. However, when Viv needs to go to Northern California to deal with her ex-husband Paul, for once, Johnny steps in and offers to come out to Los Angeles to look after her precocious nine-year-old son Jesse. And, as the cool uncle and his inquisitive nephew embark on a long journey from New York to New Orleans, little by little, their bond deepens, discovering different aspects to themselves, one conversations no at a time. But is Johnny fit for parenting?
