- The final two couples sing four songs each, one performed together as a warm-up without judges' scores, two being reprises of each couple's favourite songs with different tempos, and one new song that represents their personal journeys on the show, then the couple with the higher score, combined from the judges scores and the viewer votes, is announced as the winner.—Allister Coots
- Tonight is party time as It Takes Two reaches the "dangerously live" and thrilling Grand Final showdown, with one of the two remaining couples set to be crowned as the champions at the end of the night. Host Grant Denyer introduces his co-host Kate Ritchie, who was dressed in a stunning lilac J'Aton gown, the "musical magistrates" that are the panel of judges - Marina Prior, James Valentine, Amanda Pelman and Ross Wilson - the house orchestra - led once again by Chong Lim - who have performed an astounding 70 tunes throughout the series, and been note-perfect in every one, and the two remaining couples, who would perform four songs each tonight, including their favourite slow song, their favourite fast song and a song that sums up their personal journey throughout the series. He also informs us that the eight eliminated couples would return to sing the songs they had previously performed which meant the most to them, and that the voting lines had closed for the final time.
As a preparation for the competition ahead, the two remaining couples, Jo Stanley & Anthony Callea and Jolene Anderson & David Campbell, appear on the stage together to warm up by singing a funky rendition of Can You Feel It by The Jacksons. The audience certainly can as they rise to their feet in excitement, looking forward to what will be a night to remember.
The competition then began with the couples reprising their performances of their favourite slow songs. Jolene and David were first up with another powerful performance of the Sam Brown ballad Stop, which they first performed in week eight. After their performance, they talk about it with Grant, and Jolene says that throughout the series, she has learnt all of the tricks of the trade, to which David replies, with a twinkle in his eye, that he may have a couple left. Next, the judges deliver their verdicts, with Marina saying that it was "even more powerful than last time - gorgeous!", while Amanda comments that they "are an amazing talent, and Australia needs more of you". They then head to the green room for a chat with Kate before the judges reveal their scores - all four scored them 9 out of a possible 10, for a total of 36 points.
Jo and Anthony then return with their ballad from week three, the Kelly Clarkson hit Because Of You. When Grant interviews them, Jo explained that she loved Kelly Clarkson, so she wanted to give the song another go, and she was feeling much more confident. In the judges' remarks, James points out that "the focus and drive you've put in for the last ten weeks has gotten you here tonight", while Marina comments that Jo had "shown what hard work and a great partner can do". Marina scored them 8, James 9, Amanda 10 and Ross 8, for a total of 35 points.
As the two couples prepared for their next performances, the viewers and audience take a stroll down medley lane when the eight eliminated couples present a montage of their past performances as a reminder of how far we have come to get to the Grand Final. Krystal Forscutt and Troy Cassar-Daley were the first cab off the rank with their rocking rendition of Good Times, then Lochie Daddo and Paulini Curuenavuli swang along to Come Fly With Me. Daniel Kowalski and Kate Ceberano had some fun on the stage with their rendition of I Got You by Split Enz, then Russell Gilbert and Wendy Matthews came on to perform Love Is All Around. Bobby and Jade were next with their sassy version of Hit The Road Jack, and they were followed by Ernie Dingo and Rachael Beck rocking out with Goanna's hit Solid Rock. Next to return were Mimi Macpherson and David Hobson with Would I Lie To You, and the ensemble was completed when the other couples joined Julia Zemiro and Dave Gleeson in their rendition of Happy Together.
Next, the competition continued with the couples reprising their performances of their favourite fast songs. Jolene and David returned first with Gloria Gaynor's disco anthem Never Can Say Goodbye, which they first performed in week five. Tammy MacIntosh and John Waters, who star alongside Jolene in All Saints, were there in the audience to cheer her on. In the judges' remarks, Amanda tells them "you have made this one of the most exciting experiences of my whole career", Ross says "you've blossomed into a full-blown performer", and Marina comments that "you went for the money note, and you really cashed in!" All four judges scored them 10 for a total of 40 points, their third perfect score of the series!
Jo and Anthony then came back out swinging with a reprise of one of their week eight performances, Get Happy by Judy Garland, accompanied by a dancing group while the couple looked happy and relaxed with plenty of high kicks. Jo's co-workers on Melbourne radio station Fox FM lent their support to her from the audience, with Jo later telling Grant that the generosity and support of the fans had overwhelmed her. When the judges delivered their verdict, Marina commented "you are such a sassy showgirl, beautiful!", James told them "one of the great things you've done throughout the series is to sing AND dance, absolutely fantastic." and Amanda remarked that "that was a number one performance - forget the criticism, go out and get happy". All four judges scored them 9, for a total of 36 points.
As the two couples prepared for the final round of the night and the series, special guest artist Amy Pearson performed a song that epitomised the spirit of competition that was being seen tonight, the rousing Ready To Fly.
In the final round, the two couples would perform a song that they felt best summed up their It Takes Two journey. Jolene and David were again the first of the two couples to perform, with Jolene choosing the Dionne Warwick song That's What Friends Are For to epitomise their personal journey. Their emotional performance brings the audience to its feet. When Grant talks with them after the performance, Jolene tells him that she now thinks of David as her big brother, while David says that he was "really proud" of Jolene. In the judges' comments, Marina remarks "it's what you encapsulate as a team that I love", and Ross becomes a little teary when he says "you've achieved brilliant results, just beautiful". When Kate interviewed them backstage for the final time, she gushed "It's a love fest!" Marina scored them 10, James 10, Amanda 10 and Ross 9, for a total of 39 points.
Jo and Anthony perform the final competitive song of the series, Irene Cara's inspirational hit What A Feeling, from the movie Flashdance. Jo thinks that the song sums up the huge leaps that she has taken from the beginning of the series to tonight's performances. She tells Grant that she is so happy that she has been able to feel so comfortable when she comes out and sings. In the judges' remarks, James tells them "whatever happens tonight, you're a winner", Amanda congratulates the couple and Marina comments "you've taken the dream and pursued it, and I congratulate you on that." In the green room for the final time, Kate is told by Jo that the crowd have been amazing every week. Marina scores them 9, James 9, Amanda 8 and Ross 8, for a total of 34 points.
With the competitive performances over, the judges' work was now done. On their scores alone, Jolene and David would have won, with a total score of 115 points across their three competitive performances, while Jo and Anthony scored 105 points. All that remained to be seen was whether the viewers' votes would change this result. While everyone waited for the results to be tallied, the ten professional singers - Kate Ceberano, Troy Cassar-Daley, Wendy Matthews, Rachael Beck, Paulini Curuenavuli, David Hobson, David Campbell, Anthony Callea, Jade MacRae and Dave Gleeson - took to the stage one more time to perform a song about friendship, the Clarence Clemons and Jackson Browne hit You're A Friend Of Mine. Encapsulating the many friendships forged over the past ten weeks, it's an upbeat and perfect ending to the extravaganza that was tonight's Grand Final. When Grant thanks the judges, Ross makes a huge announcement - his group Daddy Cool will reform for the first time in thirty-three years for a tour.
Then it was time to bring Jolene, David, Jo and Anthony back to the stage for the most important verdict revelation of all - the one that would decide which couple would be crowned as the champions of series two. After a few final tense moments, Grant announces that the winners are Jolene Anderson and David Campbell. In a final interview with Grant, Jo tells him that the entire experience has been "so, so much fun!", and that to "sing with the band has been amazing." As the other nine couples celebrate with the new champions, Jolene and David take us out of another series with a reprise of "Never Can Say Goodbye", in what was a fitting end to a wonderful night.
