It's true, however, that the signage within the train station is all in simplified characters, suggesting some effort to make it appear like mainland China.
Accra, the capital of Ghana, is a modern city sorrounded by lush green tropical forest. The town depicted in the movie doesn't resemble any town in Ghana.
When the human smuggler unloads SoYun Pak, the caption reads "Eastern China" but the aerial shot shows lots of tall palm trees. Earlier the viewer is told the group is headed toward Yanji, China, which is about 1,000 miles too far north for palm trees to survive.
