I gasped out loud when I saw J.K. Simmons. What a great guest star, my favorite this season! He was brilliant, but when is he not?
Unlike the other reviewer, I liked that all the episode took place in the precinct.
In other episodes I often find boring how they separate everyone and have (too) many plots/stories. I liked seeing everyone together.

Great episode and amazing guest star.

Dillman is a pretty good guest character, and J.K. is great at being him. Great development between Jake and Charles.
The only thing that got my attention is Jake being unable to read the Captain at all when Dillman arrives. In "Ticking Clocks" (S06E14) Jake could read the Captain as he was worried about the hacker. I know it was a cold open, but at least he could be slightly accurate about Holt's bloatedness this time.

Great (almost) bottle episode

I made an account and rated 10, mainly, just to cancel out Myrtille3572's ridiculous take on the episode! HOWEVER, it also is a great episode. J. K. Simmons is, of course, perfect. Great, great casting. I would trust Dillman with my life, he's just effortlessly collected and skilful! Even with the reveal about him working at Barn Yarn losing him Holt's respect, he still has mine; he's a glitter expert! I mean, come on!
Through the episode the focus is on Jake and Dillman, going 'head to head', both flexing their deducting muscles to see who comes out on top but I love that they made Charles the sneaky dark horse that pulled away at the end to get the real solve, thereby demonstrating why Holt was right to choose him to lead the task force. Boyle is often overlooked because the show goes out of its way with ridiculous Deus Ex Machina solves to show Jake is the best detective in the history of the world...ever, but I'm glad Charles got his moment in the sun!
Great fun. Scully stuck under all that glitter for the whole episode just killed me, too!

Brilliant episode!

Overall a brilliant episode, super funny! I loved that B99 decided to make another bottle-episode (episode with one plot and one setting, like "The Box"), it worked perfectly and kept me on the edge of my seat. I just wish Amy had been involved a bit more - she barely had any lines and didn't really contribute to the case. I also wish they had shown us Cagney and Lacey's performance of Uptown Funk.
I was a bit offended by the German dialect joke. (Not that Jake was trying to speak with a German accent - that was funny especially since he didn't really sound German) The joke that because he is using a German accent he sounds like a Nazi. That joke is old, overused and quite frankly outdated. It boosts the mindset that if someone sounds German they must be a nazi. There are many criteria to identify a Nazi (racism, vigo, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, etc.) but somebody's accent certainly isn't one.
Charles the great!

No spoilies but this episode is one of the geatest maybe because somehow Jake shows many different sides of his personality while dealing with the "best detective" acording to Holt, and Charles's side kick changes the hole picture, I realy laughed loudly much more than usual.
Loved it!

JK Simmons was amazing, as expected, and his performance for right into the breezy time of the series and its main characters, but what I really want to talk about is Boyle.
Brooklyn 99 has often tried to give Boyle his due credit, with Jake realizing that he's a bad secondary, with episodes like Gintars and the like. He's a wonderful friend not only to Jane, but to Rosa and Gina in particular, and the others in general, but I always wanted to see him have a nice, big win. My first preference would have been seeing Boyle win one of the Jimmy Jab Games which, I wish, had featured in as many episodes as the Halloween Heist did. I'd have at least liked to see him win a Halloween Heist and proudly explain how he did.
But this episode did justice to the man that reflects the emotions of the audience, and one of my most favourite characters of this series in a genuine, honest way. I loved that Jake wasn't childish about Boyle being offered the task force, and wanted to ensure that Bottle wasn't going to give it up for his sake.
This is one episode I'd rewatch even more than the others.

Great idea but disappointing outcome
chriss300521 November 2020
The premise of this episode was good but was disappointing for two reasons. the first being the problem with the writing of seasons 6 & 7 where they continuously lose track of the Jake & Amy dynamic, they are supposedly a loving married couple but barely spent any time together whereas in seasons 1 to 4 if Jake was ever in trouble Amy was always there to support him even before they were an item. Also following the news Amy gave Jake at the end of season 7, episode 7, Ding Dong, following the incident that happened at the end of the cold start, you'd have thought Jake would have been concerned about his wife's welfare. This would have been the perfect episode for Jake & Amy to work the case together like in the early days but that was lost.
I have seen better

Everyone is at the precinct the whole episode, and everything happens in the precinct.
It feels like there is only one scene. Also, a lack of side stories. But i did laughed a few times, so i wouldnt say its bad. There were funny moments.
