Arguably Australia.s busiest executive producer, Robert Lewis Galinsky has added two projects to his roster: Delicate Creatures and Leaving Darkness.
Writer/producer/actress Christine Moffatt of Moffaganza Pictures is developing Delicate Creatures, based on the true story of bareknuckle female boxers in Georgian London who fight for gin and respect and a chance to escape the bottom of the class system. The protagonist falls in love with the scion of an aristocrat who had been betting on her career.
The Us-born, Melbourne-based Galinsky, who made the 2009 horror/thriller Prey, likens Moffatt.s project to .Fight Club meets Million Dollar Baby meets Pride and Prejudice..
Actress /singer Jennifer Carreno is writing the screenplay of Leaving Darkness, which Galinsky describes as a .road-to-ruin-and-back. saga set in Melbourne.
Galinsky is writing and exec producing Two Words Colliding, adapted from the book Just A Man -The Real Michael Hutchence by the Inxs front...

English director Simon West has been brought on to direct Dust and Glory.
The Expendables 2 and Tomb Raider director will helm the story set in the 1950s, following a car race that covered 10,000km around Australia and focused on the rivalry between an American driver and his Australian counterpart.
Robert Galinsky (Prey) has written the script based upon the Evan Green novelisation of the events.
Along with Galinsky’s Top Cat Media partners Elizabeth Howatt-Jackman (Prey, Hating Alison Ashley) and David Parker (The Big Steal, Matching Jack), Blue Star Entertainment’s Jason Shuman and William Sherak (Role Models) will produce.
Galinsky said: “Simon West was our top choice and couldn’t be more perfectly suited to tell this story. We are beyond excited to have him.”
The film is scheduled to begin production this summer in Australia.

Okay, so this week we have covered the "Top Five Indie Horror Films," with an article found here: Best Indie Horror Films of 2010. Also covered was the "Top Five International Horror Films." An article on this posting is here: Top Five International Films. But, now we are exploring a more depraved side of horror, or a lower class of film. This top five list will cover the "Worst Five Horror Films of 2010!"
This year, there was so much to choose from in poor horror films. Abroad, we have the dismal Basement starring Danny Dyer and Jimi Mistry to the absolutely monstrosity of a film from Australia called Outback aka Prey starring the incapable Natalie Bassingthwaighte. Domestically, films like the Zombie Chronicles: The Infected made this reviewer want to scratch his eyes out, while others like Apocalypse of the Dead aka Zone of the Dead made one reach for the off button with lightening like reflexes.

Prey is a film from the production company Top Cat Films, which will release on DVD July 13, 2010. The film is known as The Outback in North America and the screener that was sent to this reviewer was actually from Top Cat Films. This is likely one company that wants its initial investment in this horror failure back. A quick note is required here to inform readers that Prey, despite what some sites states, was directed by the Queensland born George Miller (The Aviator, Frozen Assets) who walked out on the film in post-production (Scary). Director D'Roccster (likely a fake name) walked in to a cluster f*&^ of a film, which did not adhere to John V. Soto's (Crush) original script in anyway, shape, or form. Directors: John Soto and Jeffrey Gerritsen.
Writer: John Soto.
John Soto's (Needle, Prey) Crush is a thriller film from Australia that puts Christopher Egan in the central role of an isolated housesitter. The film pays homage to Fatal Attraction with the tagline "Attraction Can Be Fatal," and the film offers a unique twist on the love affair gone very wrong angle. As well, the soundtrack enhances a visually appealing film from cinematographer Richard Malins (Stump, Crush).
The film's storyline centrally involves Julian (Egan), a prize winning martial arts champion. Egan is a multi-faceted character with a love for the drink and an occasional beautiful woman. These very human weaknesses land Julian in hot waters with his girlfriend, employer, teacher, and coach when Julian turns to the sexy Anna (Emma Lung) for intimacy and excitement.

Two things strike me as funny about the trailer for The Outback , the Aussie import formerly known as Prey . One, the end of the trailer says "The Outback: Australian for Fear," planting tongue firmly in cheek. Secondly, as the ensemble cast is identified with quick cuts and the actor's names, Joe Hachem is seen sitting at a computer looking intense. The trailer then cuts to him playing solitaire. That's the way you sell us on this character? Maybe he's the comedic relief, but still... Anyway, Xenon Pictures has picked the film up for U.S. distribution and a DVD release is planned for July 13. Jesse Johnson, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Ben Kermode co-star.

I arrived back at my apartment today after work and checked the mail box. I noticed a large white envelope inside with my name and "Stale Popcorn" typed on it. Very odd indeed since I don't seem to get that much mail in general let alone male addressed to this blog. Once I got inside my place I promptly opened it up. What was I to discover? Why, a several barbie doll head, of course!
How very strange I thought. That has most definitely never happened before. At first I thought "She's dead... wrapped in plastic!" but no. I flipped the bag over and voila(!) turns out she's been burnt to a crisp, too!
Charming and with so much grace*

Australian filmmaker Brett Anstey got in touch to let us know about his new chiller Damned By Dawn, and sent along a handful of exclusive photos; you can see them below the cut. Currently in the final stages of postproduction, the movie was produced by Anstey and Luke Gibson.
“The film centers on a banshee whose wailing wakes the dead,” Anstey tells us; specifically, it raises walking corpses during a thunderstorm, and the creatures terrorize a family. “The original idea was to make a period horror, one heavily influenced by the classic Hammer films,” he continues. “But it soon became apparent we couldn’t afford Christopher Lee, Ingrid Pitt, horse-drawn carriages and boobs. Fog, atmosphere and heavy doses of Irish mythology were all within our budget, though, so those elements remain.”

Prey , starring Natalie Bassingthwaighte, is one of those films we've been covering for so long, it's somewhat surreal to hear it will finally get released. In Australia, that is. Since our last update, in which we learned George "Not Mad Max" Miller avoided a directing credit (which has been bestowed to a Mr. Oscar D'Roccster), there's now an official one-sheet, seen below, and a release date in Australia: May 9th. A film we've been following for quite sometime is the Australian horror film Prey which even was praised for leaving a heavy lesbian scene intact. The latest controversy comes in the new trailer, which doesn't display a director. The IMDb page now lists Oscar D'Roccster as the man behind the camera. Interesting. In the film, three couples, one from the USA and two from Australia, are about to learn the horrible truth about what happens when your 4Wd holiday goes horribly wrong. In the desert, in the night, in the dark. Jesse Johnson, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Ben Kermode, Natalie Walker and Christian Clark all star.

In addition to the two trailers we introduced you to in October , a new preview has appeared online for the Australian supernatural romp Prey . And it appears there's something amiss going on behind-the-scenes on the film. At the end of this latest trailer, the credits block is missing a "directed by." A quick gander over at the film's Imdb page tells us an Oscar D'Roccster is now responsible for the film. Up until two months ago, the director was George Miller - the one responsible for The Neverending Story II , not of Mad Max and Babe fame. D'Roccster? This mystery figure has no credits to his name. Perhaps Miller wanted no connection to the final product. Written by John Soto, Prey stars Jesse Johnson, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Ben Kermode....
