“Suddenly” director Thomas Bidegain is clarifying his viral statements about his scrapped film set to star Jake Gyllenhaal and Vanessa Kirby.
In a report published by France’s Technikart magazine (as translated by Film Stories UK and blog World of Reel), Bidegain claimed Gyllenhaal exhibited erratic behavior during pre-production on the survival film. Bidegain was slated to direct from a script he cowrote with Valentine Monteil, as adapted from Isabelle Autissier’s novel “Soudain Seuls.”
Gyllenhaal was a producer on the $26 million indie film set to begin production in Iceland in fall 2021. “Suddenly” starred Gyllenhaal and Kirby as a couple trapped on an island in the South Atlantic. The set was being constructed on a whaling facility, with locations already chosen in Iceland, at the time when the allegations took place. Among Bidegain’s claims included Gyllenhaal stripping down to swim in the freezing ocean and reading the script in...

Jake Gyllenhaal is continuing his foray into animated features.
The Oscar-nominated actor made his voiceover debut in last year’s “Spirit Untamed” and now is leading Disney animated adventure film “Strange World,” in theaters November 23.
With a plot mostly kept under wraps, “Strange World” follows the Clade family of explorers, who journey into an uncharted land where fantastical creatures await discovery. Co-directed by Academy Award-nominated “Raya and the Last Dragon” filmmakers Don Hall and writer Qui Nguyen, “Strange World” also stars Alan Tudyk; the rest of the cast has yet to be announced.
Gyllenhaal stars as Searcher Clade, the son of a famed explorer who states in the teaser that he is nothing like his parent; instead, he is just a farmer, but still finds himself on a mission to a land “past space and time.”
“Strange World” director Hall previously has said that the feature is a nod to...

Someone call 9-1-1, because Jake Gyllenhaal may have just secretly made his directorial debut.
Soon after sister Maggie Gyllenhaal earned several nominations for stepping behind the camera as both writer and director of Oscar-nominated Netflix film “The Lost Daughter,” Jake Gyllenhaal reportedly directed scenes for Michael Bay’s “Ambulance.”
Gyllenhaal stars as a bank robber who teams up with his brother, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, for their largest heist yet. When their plan goes south, the duo end up hijacking an ambulance as a getaway vehicle.
Abdul-Mateen told Esquire that Gyllenhaal “loves the camera,” and even took over as a director for certain scenes.
“There were times when he would take the camera from Mike [Bay] and then you look around and Jake is shooting the scene,” Abdul-Mateen said. “I had never seen anything like that before. I’m curious about those things, but I would never ask the...

Tom Spezialy executive produced HBO’s “Watchmen,” one of the most acclaimed superhero television shows in recent memory. Now, he’s setting his sights on a Marvel character via “Silk,” Sony Television Pictures’ upcoming live-action series based on the Spider-Man character.
Deadline recently reported that Spezialy, whose credits also include “The Leftovers” and “Castle Rock,” has signed an overall deal with Amazon Studios. Part of that deal reportedly includes Spezialy serving as an executive producer and showrunner for “Silk,” which hails from Sony Pictures Television. The series is reportedly headed to Amazon Prime Video, which would make “Silk” one of the only upcoming Marvel-branded shows to not premiere on Disney+.
Spezialy will reportedly executive produce alongside Laureen Moon (“Atypical”), who wrote the “Silk” television adaptation, which is based on the Korean-American comic book superhero who is closely associated with Spider-Man. The series is also backed by veterans of recent Spider-Man...
