Zack Snyder is baffled by the "overreactions" to his film work. The 58-year-old director has released 'Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver' and thinks that the savage criticism that its predecessor got upon release last year sums up the extreme responses to his movies.Zack told the Metro newspaper: "The reactions to my movies tend to really be these big... overreactions."Even just (with) 'Rebel Moon – Part One', I'm like, it's not that controversial of a movie."A lot of people have this crazy reaction to it. And I'm just like, 'I don't get it!' I'm not mad about it, but it just is what it is."Zack acknowledges the comparisons between the 'Rebel Moon' films and 'Star Wars' but explained that the differences between the two franchises will become clear when his R-rated director's cut is released in the summer. The 'Army of the Dead...

Zack Snyder’s early films proved him to be an interesting visionary who had a distinct style to his works. Grand visuals, the application of slow-mo sequences, and colorful imagery have been the main strengths and trademarks of a Snyder film. However, audiences have been divisive about his big screen DC films in the 2010s.
Zack Snyder’s DC tenure started with 2013’s Man of Steel
Considering the hit-or-miss nature of Snyder with audiences, the 2020s saw a big change in the director and where he puts his films. Starting from Army of the Dead, his films have only premiered on Netflix. This sudden downgrade from making big-budget studio films for the big screen to just releasing streaming films is surprising but a new report sheds light on how films are greenlit nowadays.

Francis Ford Coppola has finally finished his magnum opus Megalopolis. The filmmaker’s self-funded sci-fi epic has reportedly been in the making since the ‘80s and the Apocalypse Now director finally got to revive it a few years ago. However, the film has a huge obstacle to pass through as prominent studios are reportedly not interested in giving a distribution deal.
Coppola’s epic has reportedly been avoided like the plague by major Hollywood studios, who allegedly do not see commercial potential in it. Though the film has names such as Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, and Audrey Plaza attached to it, there seem to be no takers. After a recent screening, fans have been reportedly campaigning for studios to give the film a wide release.

One of the most popular directors in the world, Zack Snyder is known for titles like “300”, “Watchmen”, and “Justice League”. His films revel in slow-motion action sequences, grand operatic themes, and a dark, brooding aesthetic.

Given the underwhelming reviews of the duology, rumors had been running of the series shutting down. However, an industry insider recently debunked this particular rumor.

The Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett-produced Dcau has had many shows and films that have attained the status of modern classics. Shows such as Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and Teen Titans have been classics in the animated TV realm for a generation while the films have constantly been well-received.
While Marvel achieved many milestones through their live-action MCU, they seem to be way behind their DC counterparts. Only a few shows with their most profitable IP such as X-Men and Spider-Man have fared well with audiences. Alan Burnett, who served as a co-producer and writer on many Dcau shows and films reportedly has the reason why.

There is no denying that any animated project is as good as its voice-over artists. Luckily, the Dcau has never come across an ‘L’ when it comes to finding the right person to voice the characters. They have Andrea Romano to thank for that. The Goddess of Casting has worked across many, many projects as a casting director, including Popeye and Son, Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, and so on.

When asking viewers to list the qualities that best characterize a Zack Snyder film, ‘slow motion’ is probably going to be mentioned nine times out of ten. Rebel Moon, his 2023 American epic space opera flick, is probably well-known to those who enjoy visually stunning stories and epic action sequences. In addition, if you have watched the movie, you might have noticed the unusual use of ‘slow motion’.
Naturally, the renowned filmmaker is well aware of that, and during an interview with Wired, he discussed why and how he approaches those kinds of scenes and the kinds of rules he sets for himself and his team while filming.

Zack Snyder may not have been able to bring Justice League 2 to life, but he was able to repurpose a scene for Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver
Rebel Moon 2 includes a “Last Supper” scene in which Kora (Sofia Boutella) and the other rebels trade war stories while awaiting the final battle against Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein). Snyder told THR that this scene was originally included in his Justice League sequel. “There absolutely is a Last Supper in Justice League 2, and the scene had them telling the stories of how they got there, because Justice League 2 was going to open with us now 10 years in the future. ‘How did we get here?’” Snyder explained. “So that was kind of it, and yes, [Rebel Moon — Part Two’s sequence] has a similar sort of structure to the Justice League 2 scene that we have.“

If there’s one thing everyone can agree on about Guy Ritchie, then it’s that he’s got a distinct style. Now, not everyone may like this style — but it’s always there and it’s impossible to miss either way. The director knows what he’s good at and goes at it tirelessly, pumping out new movies that rarely fail to cheer up the audience… Especially those who can’t get enough of Ritchie’s humorous action-packed films.

Zack Snyder has been a hot and cold figure in the DC fandom. Even though he has been regarded as one of the most talented filmmakers to have even been part of the franchise, his approach towards certain characters raised several eyebrows during his time working in the universe. He made several fundamental changes to certain characters that completely went against their moral code.
Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel
The best example would be the fact that Ben Affleck’s Batman killed 30 people in the SnyderVerse. In almost every version of the character, the no-killing rule has been the only separation between the Caped Crusader and the villains he fights. Another perfect example would be that of Superman.

People can be roughly separated into two groups: those who adore Zack Snyder and his Snydercuts and those who hate everything about the man. After the director lost the Dceu, he was picked up by Netflix and given a massive budget to create what’s basically a “new Star Wars for adults” — a sci-fi franchise called Rebel Moon.
There was a lot of hype about this project, but so far, it really hasn’t been going well.
Rebel Moon Part II Gets Destroyed
The new franchise’s first installment, A Child of Fire, didn’t perform too well: despite the hype around the movie, it received underwhelming (at best) 21 and 58% Critic and Audience Scores on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively. Many fans were left disappointed, but others claimed that as an entry movie, it wasn’t going to be great — and the real gem would come with the sequel.

After leaving the Dceu behind, Zack Snyder has been quite busy with his Rebel Moon franchise which already has two films to its name. The films revolve around a fictional galaxy ruled by something called the Motherworld. Rebel Moon sees Sofia Boutella in the lead role as she does a splendid job of bringing Korra to life. From the cast to the crew, Zack Snyder worked with brilliant people who were on the top of their game.

However, it seems like the filmmaker felt that there was still a piece missing from the puzzle. As it turns out, the missing jigsaw piece needed to complete the picture is none other than Patrick Tatopoulos, the Production Designer for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Now, Zack Snyder is hoping his old friend would help him out on the third Rebel Moon film.

Justice League was one of those shows that really dived deep into DC lore, pulling characters from across its run, all the way from the golden age to the modern run of comics. This requires some changes to be made to the characters to make them more appropriate for the animated run.

The show introduced a myriad of villains, some of which were very deep cuts from the comics. Of course, some of them were the most popular during their respective runs, when sensibilities towards creating characters were different. For many fans, Bruce Timm’s Dcau gave the most definitive version of Batman. Matt Reeves’ The Batman took inspiration from Timm’s dark and gritty tone of the character in Batman: The Animated Series. Timm proved that he could develop feature-length animated movies, debuting with the Batman movie, Mask of the Phantasm. However, Timm never once got the call from DC or WB to create a live-action Batman film.

Henry Cavill’s role as Nazi-killing commando soldier, Major Gus March-Phillips in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare required one unique training for his role. While Cavill killed it in the gunfire and action scenes acting like a madman with his tongue out, it was his twirly stylish mustache that needed training. It appears that the mustache was a more difficult job than executing the action scenes.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s famous aversion to starring in comic book movies made him a hero among cinephiles who resented the genre’s pop culture dominance in the 2010s. But while the Oscar winner never took on a Marvel or DC role, Zack Snyder said he was once willing to consider it.
In a new appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Snyder revealed that he met with DiCaprio about the role of Lex Luthor in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” that ultimately went to Jesse Eisenberg. While DiCaprio ended up turning down the opportunity, Snyder was impressed by his thoughtfulness about the comic book source material.
“He had a lot of great ideas actually, just in the meeting,” Snyder said of DiCaprio. “I think in the end, he was like ‘Eh, I don’t know.’ But he was really smart about the material and really smart about the character.

Few modern blockbuster filmmakers draw as sharply divided reactions from critics and general audiences as Zack Snyder. For every review that praises Snyder’s remarkable ability to create grand, fantastical visual imagery on film, there will be another review criticizing the filmmaker’s overreliance on slow motion and weak plot points. Let us take a look at Snyder’s filmography, and the critical reaction to his works as determined by Rotten Tomatoes.
Dawn of the Dead (2004), Tomatometer: 76% Zombies attack in Dawn of the Dead
Zack Snyder‘s maiden effort as a director remains his most critically successful venture. In 2004, Zack Snyder presented the world with his dramatic reimagining of George Romero’s classic horror tale of a zombie invasion. The slick, visually compelling action scenes coupled with a strong screenplay by James Gunn help elevate the film above your run-of-the-mill horror remakes.

While aimed at kids, Dcau was no stranger to crossing boundaries by incorporating s-xual innuendos and double entendres into their shows in order to keep the adults hooked. Although Batman: The Animated Series, which started it all, and its successor had their fair share of adult jokes packed into them, with Justice League Unlimited, Bruce TImm took it a step further.
This was a result of the plethora of romantic subplots that were incorporated into the series, which also involved a surprising romance arc between Green Lantern and Hawkgirl. Later elaborating on it, Timm revealed it was a result of their experiment with the show’s format.

In most comic iterations, Hawkman is often the match for Hawkgirl, but to fans’ surprise, in Justice League Unlimited, we witness a romantic arc between her and John Stewart.

The world that Zack Snyder comes from is stuffed with lore-driven drama, mature sensibilities, and dark imagination. His work reflects those traits in abundance despite there being enough opportunities to go so completely campy in his artistic style that it would threaten even David Cronenberg’s reputation in the field. But Snyder doesn’t take the bait. He would rather be the master of dramatic storytelling that presents itself as an epic Greek tragedy than serve up a generic film that gets lost among the stampede of a thousand other films coming off of Hollywood’s factory lineup.

Oscar winner J.K. Simmons made his career on television, appearing in Law & Order and Oz, and while he did play J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy (2002–2007), it wasn’t until Juno (2007) that he became a brand name, later appearing in Burn After Reading (2008), La La Land (2016), Justice League (2017), Being the Ricardos (2021), and other films. But, it was 2014’s Whiplash that earned him his first Oscar and earned him unanimous praise for his portrayal of the sadistic music instructor Terence Fletcher.

The inherent darkness surrounding Bruce Wayne is one of the most obvious reasons why fans love Batman. And Zack Snyder exploited that trait to the fullest during his tenure at DC. While making the Snyderverse movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the director put Ben Affleck’s Batman in a chaotic situation that was enough to shudder his moral ground.
Ben Affleck as Batman
Batman is so very different from Superman but the character needs to maintain God-like prowess to level up with Superman (who is equivalent to God for humankind) and other heroes infused with superpowers. Snyder was candid enough to reveal his philosophy behind making Affleck’s Batman ruthless in the movie.

DC Comics has no dearth of power packed characters. Who wouldn’t be afraid of the might of Superman or even Darkseid for that matter. And the wit of Batman needs no introduction. But what if we told you that there is one character in the comic book universe who has got Bruce Wayne’s wit and talent for strategy, while he has also got Superman’s brawns. There is one, though – Deathstroke. The mighty assassin is one of DC Comics’ most dreaded. But the Arrowverse could not do the character justice.

[Editor’s Note: this list was originally published in November 2017. It has since been updated with Snyder’s further work to coincide with the release of “Rebel Moon — Part Two.”]
Zack Snyder is possibly the most polarizing mainstream filmmaker of the 21st century. His name alone is enough to launch a thousand angry tweets, and the most passionate writing about his work is exclusively found in the comment sections of websites or as social media replies. Snyder’s critics really seem to hate him, and Snyder’s fans really seem to hate his critics. At this point, a Marvel / DC movie crossover might be a lot more plausible than finding any sort of common ground between those two camps. Is Snyder a master or a hack? A misunderstood myth-maker, or a meathead with a movie camera?
One thing we can say for sure is that no contemporary auteur has more awesomely investigated what it means to be a hero in a fallen world. The Pasadena native...

Zack Snyder knows the intricate future of his Rebel Moon universe, and now it’s up to the audience to make sure that Netflix leadership feels the demand to bring as many as four more movies to fruition.
Between today’s release of Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver and this summer’s R-rated director’s cuts of Part One and Two, Netflix subscribers will have plenty of opportunities to impose their will on the streamer, but currently, the situation is up in the air now that Snyder is caught up in an all-too-familiar regime change. Gone is the director’s longtime collaborator Scott Stuber, and with Dan Lin now taking the reins from Stuber as Netflix’s new film chief, it’s anyone’s guess as to how things will unfold.

Remember Jesse Eisenberg's performance as Lex Luthor in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice"? Sure you do. It's a big, over-the-top take on a classic villain, with Eisenberg deciding to go kind of crazy playing the evil billionaire. I don't think you can call it a good performance, but I guess it's pretty darn memorable. I mean, how can you forget such a bananas take on a memorable character? I think when Eisenberg was cast we all assumed he'd play the character like he played another evil billionaire: Mark Zuckerberg. But that's not what happened. Instead, Eisenberg played Lex like a giant toddler who occasionally blows people up. It was wild.

The 47-year-old actor portrayed Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe, making brief appearances in both Justice League and The Snyder Cut. He was also slated to star in Ben Affleck’s canceled Batman film.

If there is one DC Extended Universe movie with a more dedicated fanbase compared to the rest, it is Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Having cast the most beloved characters—Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman—in his film, Snyder had a brilliant idea for the franchise that would have made it one of the greatest ever.
Snyder had lofty goals for the DC Extended Universe (Dceu), which were sadly thwarted. From the very beginning, the director had the ideal plot for Justice League. One of the most anticipated storylines that fans were looking forward to was seeing Henry Cavill’s Superman face off against the ruthless villain Darkseid, but it seems that those dreams have been dashed.

… And we’re back with part two of Zack Snyder’s Netflix space opera Rebel Moon -Part Two: The Scargiver. You might not be a shock to hear this, but part two manages to be worse than part one. Its biggest offense? Nothing happening for way too long. The film stars Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Staz Nair, Elise Duffy and Anthony Hopkins as the voice of Jimmy the robot. While this is a capable cast of actors, they have nothing to work with. I wonder if the reason Snyder hasn’t delivered a comprehensible script in some time is because he wears too many hats as writer, producer, director and cinematographer on most of his films?...

Zack Snyder built this gritty realistic superhero world for his version of Dceu. Starting with Man of Steel in 2013, the Watchmen director helmed three successful movies while planning several other dropped projects. One common criticism he received for Batman v Superman was that he did not properly flesh out solo superhero stories before going for an ensemble film. However, Snyder clarified why he chose to do the team-up film.

According to Zack Snyder, one of the most significant Dceu storylines seems to have originated from none other than Oscar-winning star Leonardo DiCaprio. The 49-year-old actor was once considered for the role of Lex Luthor, Superman’s greatest enemy. In an exclusive interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the director disclosed that he had a meeting with the Titanic star to discuss the role in his 2016 superhero flick, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
However, Jesse Eisenberg ultimately won the role. Snyder also recalled that DiCaprio came up with the plan to pit Henry Cavill’s Superman against the Justice League. Sadly, the Dceu timeline came to an end in 2023 (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom), capping ten years of superhero films that started with Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013).

Snyder has certainly elevated the essence of DC Studios before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the DC Universe to revamp the entirety of it. Now, Snyder’s association with the company has ended, and his return to the studio is very unlikely.

Leonardo DiCaprio As Lex Luthor? Zack Snyder Considered Him For ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’
Before asking Jesse Eisenberg to rock a bald head, Zack Snyder considered Leonardo DiCaprio for the role of Lex Luthor.
While chatting recently with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast, Snyder admitted that he discussed the 2016 film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with the Oscar-winning star of Killers of the Flower Moon.
“I think, in the end, he was like, ‘eh, I don’t know.’ But he was really smart about the material and really smart about the character,” said Snyder, who added that DiCaprio “had a lot of great ideas, actually, just in the meeting … I think he was the one that mentioned to me this idea about Superman fighting the Justice League at some point.”
Snyder went on to say he also talked to Adam Driver about the role of the cunning billionaire.

Over the course of the conversation, host Josh Horowitz asked him if there was any truth to the fact that the studio wanted Tom Hanks or Adam Driver for the villain role.
“I think I did talk to Adam on the phone, yeah,” he said of the rumored castings. “Leonardo DiCaprio, I talked to him about it.”
While Snyder ultimately went with Jesse Eisenberg as Lex, starring opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman, he revealed the Titanic star “had a lot of great ideas, actually, just in the meeting.

Zack Snyder’s Dceu garnered praise for its boldness, but it also faced criticism, particularly for casting choices and deviations from source material.
Regarding casting, Snyder’s interpretation of live-action adaptations introduced one of the least favored portrayals of Lex Luthor in history, played by Jesse Eisenberg. This isn’t a criticism of Eisenberg himself, but rather a reflection on how he may not have been the best fit for the role.
Luthor was frequently mentioned in ‘Man of Steel,’ but his initial on-screen appearance came in ‘Batman v Superman.’ Despite widespread disappointment with his portrayal, he made appearances in the post-credits scenes of ‘Justice League’ and Snyder’s Cut.
Years later, Snyder disclosed that he had extensive discussions with a notable actor about the Luthor role. He made this revelation during the Happy Sad Confused podcast while promoting his latest movie ‘Rebel Moon.’
