As Sometimes Happens, A Minor Crime Turns Into A Major Crime
ccthemovieman-131 December 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Six showgirls, all living together and all killed one night, stabbed to death by some maniac. That's the crime: find this killer.

Actually, I shouldn't say "all killed" because one of the girls was found near death under a bed. She whispers something to Sara (Jorja Fox) before expiring second later. It turns out to be a clue to the murderer.

This is a grisly stuff but a fast-moving episode that is interesting. I've always thought it was better when CSI concentrated on one good story, rather than break the 45 minutes into two or three stories.

Veteran actress Ruby Dee makes a short appearance as a grandma who knew "Warrick" (Gary Dourdan) as a kid. One of victims was the woman's granddaughter "Emily." It appears that this horrific crime was not planned, that it just happened. That is true in real-life, too. Many times a burglar enters a house thinking nobody is home, is surprised, and winds up killing those that are home , turning a route burglary into a homicide.

The title to this episode, "Empty Eyes," refers to a remark the killer makes at the end of the show. Life going out of the eyes is the sign for him that he has just killed someone. He's seems to get a kick out of that. Wow: cold.......very cold.

What Can You Do?
Hitchcoc15 February 2021
When the perpetrator of a horrendous crime is a psychopath, is there anything society can do. Are we all victims of randomness. There are religious people who feel that when some horror befalls them, it is because of something they did (that God is angry with them for their shortcomings). Here, six very young Las Vegas showgirls are slaughtered one night. Sara Sidle holds one as she dies and is traumatized by this event. This is a good episode because it draws on their best use of deduction.

The Six Showgirls

When six showgirls are found dead at home, the CSI team investigates the murder case. Sara is impressed with the case since the victim Cammie Brookston died holding her hand. They collect evidences from the crime scene and process them and interview suspects. Meanwhile they have another case to resolve, where Marlon Frost is found with throat slashed. Sara goes with him and hold his hand in the ambulance and soon they find the killer.

"Empty Eyes" is great episode of "CSI", where murders are not reviewed accordingly. The plot is very well-written and the conclusion of the case is excellent. My vote is eight.

Could have been ripped from TODAY'S headlines

Watching this in late 2023, almost a year after the November 2022 University of Idaho college murders. Obviously, it's bringing up a lot of similarities - multiple killings of roommates, so many clues but not clearly connected to a suspect.

One thing I ask almost every episode is why do they always leave the lights off? It makes no sense if you are trying to investigate a scene to do so in the dark. Only if they are looking for forensic evidence under a black light, should it be dark.

I must say, I really like the characterization this season. I've been watching the show for several months now, and have only recently noticed a real attempt at providing background to the characters. Especially Sara, since we know that she was traumatized as a child.

The episode did a good job showing all the pieces behind the investigation.
