I didn't expect that

"Vad tyst det blev..." or "All Quiet Now" is a Swedish Swedish-language short film from 2006, so this one will soon have its 15th anniversary. Writer and director is David Sandberg and I am genuinely surprised if that one is according to imdb really the David F. Sandberg who worked on so many horror short films in recent years and now also had his breakthrough as a full feature film director I think. This is really the complete opposite. It is not only animation, but unless you count the rude comments from the inner voices, there is nothing remotely scary or haunting about this 7-minute movie we got here. On the contrary actually as it is really all about comedy and awkwardness. It is about a young woman and man who end up going to the same party and they both have serious doubts about their own attractivity and really work pretty self-destructive that way. There is even talk about very unperfect genitalia, so if you want to see it like that, the two fit together very well. I thought it was kinda funny, the film works mostly well thanks to over-the-top moments and the approach to comedy that relies on graphic and visual exaggerations and these are included from start to finish. The animation style is not anything you'd see from Disney or Pixar, but it works very well with the style of the script and the tone of the entire movie. In-between here and there I had some doubts if this would work, but overall in the end, there is no doubt for me it did work. Especially the second half is considerably better than the first and the ending is really the first kinda sweet moments the entire film has to offer and I thought it was perfect for the ending credits to roll in. Good job Mr. Sandberg, sure didn't expect that.
