- A trio of thieves threatens to murder the wife of an armored car guard in order to force him to surrender a $25,000 payroll secured inside the vehicle.
- Under the direction of Tiny Elton, Don Brueger and Rusty Schilling hijack an armored car and take it to a remote area with a $25,000 payroll AND guard Bill Franklin still in the back. Elton utilizes a ruse to get Bill's wife Lea into his car. He then drives to the armored car's location and threatens to kill her if Franklin does not come out with the money. Bill complies, but the three take the money and keep Lea hostage in an attempt to ensure their safe passage. When they find themselves trapped in their car at a Highway Patrol roadblock, Dan Mathews knows that Elton is capable of killing Lea whether or not the car is released and he finds himself in one of the most intense confrontations of his career.—Sam Spear / Hans Delbruck
- Side entry of a supermarket, store doors open, armored truck parked, waiting, and the ice cream vendor with his cart is going by between the entry and the armored vehicle; what is wrong with this picture? Weeks to come, a portrait photographer is now a mainstay at the same side entrance; permissible by the armored vehicle company? Standard procedure has been to make way for the vehicle, no one in the path of armored personnel; oh well. The ice cream vendor, Don Brueger, the itinerant photographer, Rusty Schilling, and suited silent partner of the photog and ice cream vendor, Tiny Elton, had set them up to be part of the robbery.
Two months of planning were to be exercised when the outside guards were surprised, their weapons removed, tossed in the ice cream cart, the photog and the ice cream vendor drove the armored vehicle away from the store with Bill Franklin in the back of the unit. Tiny watched from his car as the robbery went off without a hitch.
Dan is on the way to the armored car HQ after giving the HP dispatcher orders for available units to converge, alert armored personnel in stolen unit to keep calling in to provide location of armored car. Dan arrives at the Armored HQ to work with Simpson, talks to Bill Franklin in the truck, advising to keep calling in to give location, a HP should be connecting very soon with the location of the unit.
They park the armored unit, break off the antenna, disabling communication with the unit and Dan. They're back on the road, Franklin trying to rig an antenna from the inside, while Tiny goes to Franklin's home to get Lea to coerce Bill to surrender from the back of the truck. Tiny says Bill has been in a wreck, on his way to the hospital, Lea goes with Tiny as the nosey neighbor is told of the accident.
Dan is alerted by the neighbor, he heads there to talk to her, he gets a description of Tiny and his car. Tiny is heading to meet with the robbers, Lea is told by Tiny what is going down, Bill is trying to rig an antenna to communicate with his HQ, Officer Arnold just let Tiny and Lea go by as Dan check in.
Dan and Officer Arnold are on their way to the presumed whereabouts of Tiny's car. Franklin makes contact, alerts the HP of his location, unfortunately, Tiny has Lea, the other two robbers in his car heading out as Arnold goes to Bill's location. Dan is heading toward the robbers with Arnold and Bill from the opposite direction.
Dan blocks the road with a truck assisting, the robbers come to the roadblock, through fast talk of murder raps, the two accomplices surrender their weapons, lie down on the side of the road leaving only Tiny in the car with Lea, gun pointed at her. Dan keeps talking about a murder rap. Tiny tells her to get out, Lea runs to Bill, Tiny finally surrenders, Arnold cuffs him. Game over. Someone get the scared tuck driver from the bushes down the road.
