Having completed production in the summer of the previous year, Christine Jeffs is now well-prepared to polish off her highly anticipated fourth feature film, a book-to-film adaptation titled A Mistake to high-brow auds. This marks a sixteen-year gap between her previous feature films – she began with a lot of fanfare early on with Rain (2001), Sylvia (2003) and then Sunshine Cleaning (2008). A Mistake sees Elizabeth Banks topline what was a shot in New Zealand project. Jeffs was at Sundance with her last film so it might be a fun comeback narrative for this acquisitions item.

When it released Wonder Woman 1984 to its HBO Max servers in December, WarnerMedia made it abundantly clear that it was ready for a new era of movie distribution. Now, in its list of new releases for February 2021, Warner is attempting another grand experiment for HBO Max.
Judas and the Black Messiah premieres on HBO Max this Feb. 12 and is by every indication the kind of film that awards shows go gaga over. Both Daniel Kaluuya and and Lakeith Stanfield look to be at the top of their respective games in this story about Black Panther Party chairman Fred Hampton and the FBI that wants to take him down. Will this have the same rhetorical oomph on the small screen? Guess we’ll find out!

As Emily Blunt gracefully drifts from here to there with her magical umbrella in ‘Mary Poppins Returns,’ let’s take a look back on her film eclectic film career.
Following minor British TV gigs, the London-born actress hit the big screen in Pawel Pawlikowski’s “My Summer of Love.” The award-winning drama follows Tamsin (Blunt) and her affair with another young woman.
As Miranda Priesley’s snarky assistant, whose name also happens to be Emily, Blunt hit the big time acting along with Anne Hathawy and Meryl Streep. Her performance granted her nominations for both a best supporting actress Golden Globe and BAFTA’s Rising Star award. In the same year, Blunt also started dating singer Michael Bublé.
After her notable performance in “The Devil Wears Prada,” it’s no surprise that Blunt starred more and more titles. The rom-com features Blunt, sporting a sleek bob, as a French teacher...

2018 is promising to be quite a year for Emily Blunt. The British actress has received some of the best reviews of her career for the film “A Quiet Place,” which is directed by and co-stars her real-life husband John Krasinski (“The Office”). As a pregnant wife who helps to lead her family to safety by trying to outwit alien creatures by not making a sound, Blunt offers a nearly silent performance with acting registering mostly with her face, a bold move that could result in awards attention later in the year.

J.J. Abrams sure does love playing in the world of Cloverfield. He also seems to enjoy surprising us with the Cloverfield film announcements. 10 Cloverfield Lane, The Cloverfield Paradox, and the upcoming Overlord, were all developed as secret Cloverfield projects. Now, another J.J. Abrams-produced film project called Kolma might end up being a fifth Cloverfield film! That film stars Daisy Ridley. It makes me wonder if Star Wars: Episode IX will actually end up being Cloverfield 6!
Kolma is a remake of a 2003 Israeli TV movie. It was described as “a cross between a loftier, more mystical version of The Notebook and Albert Brooks‘ 1991 fantasy romance Defending Your Life, the project follows a young couple who get in a car accident that leaves the man dead. 50 years later, the old woman is about to cross over and make the choice whether to reunite with her long-lost love in the hereafter...

Add another title to the ever-expanding Bad Robot slate: according to The Wrap, J.J. Abrams and Daisy Ridley will reunite — this time as producer and star, respectively — on Kolma, a remake of the 2003 Israeli picture All I’ve Got and, it seems, the next directorial effort for Diary of a Teenage Girl helmer Marielle Heller. While the outline could (and likely will, in some ways) change from one iteration to the next, it’s worth noting that the original incarnation concerned a woman who, reflecting on the accident that left her then-lover dead, is left to choose between joining him in the afterlife or returning to the day of said accident.
Despite the marshaling of forces, including a new draft by scribe Megan Holley (Sunshine Cleaning), word on when production might kick off remains unclear — though one imagines another Abrams-produced, Ridley-led outing will need to wrap before things move forward.

Having starred in his "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," actress Daisy Ridley is continuing her work with filmmaker J.J. Abrams with the pair set to reunite on the fantasy romance drama "Kolma" at Abrams' Bad Robot.
Marielle Heller ("The Diary of a Teenage Girl") will direct and Abrams will produce this remake of the 2003 Israeli telefilm "All I've Got". The story follows a woman who, after losing the love of her young life, finds new love and a family over the next few decades.
When she finally reaches the afterlife, she's given two choices to return to the world of the living: she can either wake up and continue her life as is or she can forget everything since that first love and wake up young again with him.
Megan Holley ("Sunshine Cleaning") penned the most recent draft while Rolin Jones, Karen Moncrieff and Sarah Polley also previously worked on the script.

For a few years now, J.J. Abrams has been trying to get a remake of the 2003 Israeli TV movie, "Kol Ma She'Yesh Li" ("All I've Got") off the ground. Back in 2013, he rounded up Ron Howard to direct, but the version didn't get in front of cameras. But now he's got some new talent to help bring the story to life. "The Diary Of A Teenage Girl" helmer Marielle Heller will direct "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star Daisy Ridley in the fantasy thriller. Megan Holley ("Sunshine Cleaning") has penned the script for "Kolma" that centers on a young, in-love couple who get into a car accident where the man is killed. The woman moves on, marries, has three children, but 50 years later when she faces her own end, she's given the choice of living again as a 22 year-old, or being reunited with her first love. Bless J.J Abrams, for he delivered to us the glorious Daisy Ridley, when he cast her as the lead in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With few screen credits to her name, the actress and her co-star John Boyega strolled off into the history books, having successfully re-booted the most legendary film franchise in history. Little wonder then, that Ridley is now reportedly circling another female-led film produced by Abrams and his Bad Robot banner – this one titled Kolma.
The movie is an exciting prospect – not just because Daisy Ridley may star, but also because it will be the second feature length movie from director Marielle Heller, who debuted with The Diary Of A Teenage Girl in 2015. In addition, while Heller is set to work on the script prior to shooting, it is written by Megan Holley, who scripted 2008’s Sunshine Cleaning – which starred Amy Adams, Emily Blunt and Alan Arkin.

Joining Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Jean Smart and Jeremie Harris in FX's Legion will be Amber Midthunder (Banshee, Spare Parts, Sunshine Cleaning) as a character named Kerry. Deadline describes her as “a woman of action with a childlike sense of wonder. A true savant, Kerry has lived a sheltered, but never dull life.” It's possible this Kerry will turn out to be an established Marvel Comics character, but for the time being we'll have to assume she's been created for the show. It's not even clear whether Stevens' take on David Haller will be tied to the X-Men universe or not - let alone Charles Xavier's son as he is in the comics. Legion is set to kick off production early next month, and is expected to premiere on FX sometime during the fall.

But just because Blunt knows how to wield a gun and isn't afraid to mix it up with more standard-issue action hero guys doesn't mean that the British actress is ready to make that her entire career. Murky Contract Part Deux: Hallam & Horvath Continue to Stir a Slushy Cauldron
A vaguely administered narrative continues to plague the concept of what comprises The Pact 2, the sequel to Nicholas McCarthy’s 2012 first film, which had been based on his original short. Directing duo Dallas Richard Hallam and Patrick Horvath take over the directorial and screenwriting reigns for this revolution. However, despite sharing the title and star of the predecessor, there’s little to significantly link this to the skimpy entrails of the first chapter, itself a film criticized for ambience but faltering in nearly every other department. This latest installment suffers from the same derivative issues, though correctly straddles a menacing tone, while at the same time offering up a committed cast this time around.
June Abbott (Camilla Luddington) is a young woman plagued by nightmares. This should come as no surprise considering her grisly occupation as someone who cleans up crime scenes.

Are we done yet? Nope. Two days after the last casting announcement, here's yet another. This time it's Clifton Collins Jr. who's had the call from Wally Pfister to join Transcendence, Pfister's directorial debut. His name gets added to a ridiculously starry roll-call that already includes Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Morgan Freeman and Cillian Murphy. If you can't immediately place the name, the face at least will be familiar. Collins is the always-reliable character actor who's showed up in the dispararate likes of Scott Pilgrim, Star Trek, Sunshine Cleaning, Capote and Traffic. Most recently, he's been dwarfed by the giant mecha of Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim.Pfister, as we've said before, is taking a leaf out of his old employer Christopher Nolan's handbook, and revealing next to nothing about what Transcendence actually is. All the erstwhile Batman cinematographer has yet let slip is...

Title: Thale Director: Aleksander Nordaas Starring: Erlend Norvold, Jon Sigve Skard, Silje Reinåmo, Morten Andresen Supernaturally tinged Norwegian mystery-horror import “Thale” unfolds, on a narrative level, like some weird hybrid of “Sunshine Cleaning,” “Splice” and “Lady in the Water” — a work that dances around a couple moods and genres without ever really wholeheartedly committing to one in particular. Telling the story of a surprise woodland contact between a pair of guys and an awakened, captive huldra — a nymph-like creature of Scandinavian folklore — writer-director Aleksander Nordaas’ work gives off a certain eerie vibe that, along with its regional specificity, add up to give the movie a pungent originality. Yesterday we kicked things off with a look at Best Director and today we move into the first two of the four acting categories with a look at Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively. Like Best Director, and all the categories at this point for that matter, we're doing a lot of speculation as several titles have not yet been seen with Lincoln, Les Miserables, Flight, Hitchcock, Django Unchained and Promised Land being six I'm particularly keeping an eye on when it comes to these two categories. Let's take a look... Best Actor At this moment I have a hard time placing anyone over Joaquin Phoenix for his performance in The Master. I know most will go straight for Daniel Day-Lewis and his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln sight unseen and I can't blame them. It's a performance of a historical figure from a talented actor and the Academy eats those up.
