Creative time waster
jddoggie4 April 2007
I was surprised by this show. At first i thought it would be pretty bad. But after watching it i realized that it really has potential. It is original, and funny.

Now, it isn't a masterpiece, but you get a few goods laughs out of it and it's a good time waster.

I think the actors play their characters perfectly and the camera work is OK.

Now, what i don't understand is why people would call it offensive. It hasn't really done anything offensive, and if you think so, take that stick out of your butt and enjoy something for once.

Definitely a step forward for Comedy Central. I really hope this isn't just a 1 season time filler, it has the creativity and humor to go farther than that.

A great new show.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure exactly how this show can be construed as offensive when the people that might/might not be trying to offend are represented on this show, and they all take shots at themselves repeatedly. Not only that, but look at the story lines (possible spoiler, if you haven't seen the show): How offended can you really get at a story that involves 4 guys who all accidentally take horse Viagra that they got off the internet? On a side note, it's nice to see Regan Burns (Allen) get a prominent role in a comedy series again. Even though it wasn't on for very long, I loved him as the host of "Oblivious" and was wondering when we might see him on another show. The rest of the cast is great, too, and kudos to Oscar Nunez for working on both this show and "The Office" (my favorite show).

Hilarious

This is a classic example of how Comedy Central cancels any show that's actually funny and lets terrible shows go on forever. This is a laugh a second riot and should have run for 20 seasons.

Funny show

I've laughed out loud several times while watching this show. The characters are stereotypical sure, but that's the joke. The Hispanic male prostitute cracks me up. MANgina is what he calls his "undercarriage". On family day his father arrived to say "the men in our family have been male prostitutes for generations and my son is the first one to be arrested" His makeover tips get him a job offer at the local make-up counter. C-BASS is the would be tough guy and black activist that grew up in Bel Air. Serenity is the plus sized inmate who operates on the premise that all white people are afraid of blacks. This is a COMEDY CENTRAL after all and if it is to have a chance at all in the vast wasteland of comedy show it's got to be over the top. That's what we've come to expect from COMEDY CENTRAL. Humor we can't find on the networks.

Good for some great laughs

This show is actually funny. I love improv comedy and these actors are really good. The whole genre of improv is great when it's done right. Great cast, a distinctive look. I don't think a lot of people get this show for what it is. It's more than just a another silly scripted program. Some of the one liners in this will put you on the floor.

C Bass interviews are hilarious. Hard to believe they just come up with this stuff. My favorite episode is Halfway camping where all these misfits go on a camp out to learn about the outdoors. It's great when these shows go out on a limb and do something original. Favorite scene; Alan at the grill in the Jobs episode.

Halfway Funny, Halfway Dumb

A good idea for a comedy that would only work on cable. This would never fly on the networks.

There's enough wild humor here to keep people interested. It's not really offensive either. It's a good watch if your favorite show isn't on.

Breakdown;

Ken is your law enforcement type to a "T." Right down to the 'stache. And his patient cluelessness reminds one of M*A*S*H's Henry Blake.

Making the black radical type wasn't new, but making his crime internet fraud was a good change.

The arsonist with the mother complex was a bit old though.

Carly was your classic sleepwalking hippie type. Likable while annoying during her more spacey times. And are they trying to make her look sexy by giving her shorts and tube socks? If so, is it working?

The flaming gay Hispanic was not new either. And his crime being prostitution was also trite. But the character was still a gas.

And the Serendipity character, as amusing as she may be, and Octavia is doing a great job in the role, is REALLY unoriginal. How many more loudmouthed "bitch" types do we need?

So, I guess I'm saying this.

Apart from the idea, it's NOT original. But it IS funny. Good job gang, and welcome aboard.

Hilarious and Fun

I think there is absolutely nothing offensive about this show, and I consider it to be better than most of the junk that Comedy Central puts out. It's at a perfect time right after south park, making it an easy time to watch because you're already sitting at the television. As said before all of the characters are idiotic stereotypes, from Allan's sheltered suburban child with a problem, to C-bass' gangster personality, when in reality all he's done is commit a few minor computer crimes. This show is hilarious, it's not offensive by any means, it's not going to win any awards, but sometimes it's nice to have something light and entertaining, and this show definitely delivers on that.

Downright Offensive
mihai9925 March 2007
This show represents exactly what's wrong with American television. TV shows are getting dumber by the minute, and people are excusing poorly written scripts and bad picture quality and camera work by calling it "a reality show". This show is garbage, it does nothing than promote racial stereotypes. It's not a comedy, because it simply isn't funny, at least not for those that understand and respect other cultures. There's a thin line between a sharp comedian like Dave Chapelle and the writers of Halfway Home. Dave Chappelle can tiptoe the racial overtone jokes and still get a hearty laughter out of people while tastefully exposing a stereotype. Whoever writes this show does not have that elusive skill; they try to play the racial card and fall flat on their face. They are simply trying to ride the existing reality popularity wave while adding nothing to the mix. Maybe I'm biased against unintellectual TV shows like "reality shows", but I can strongly state that the Halfway Home writers probably should stick to slapstick comedy, and steer away from any racial jokes because they are only doing the public a disservice by putting this on the air. I watched the free episode offered over Xbox live, and I was disgusted to see this modern day minstrel show.

Surprisingly Funny!
Arimis15 March 2007
Halfway Home is Surprisingly funny. Only in my opinion did i think this show to be a failure. The way the shows on comedy central are pre-introduced before they air actually aggrivates me. very annoying.

The camera work .. i don't like, it would be nice to be more "COPS"ish. Something as in the camera breaking from angle to angle a lot less. Which, possibly the actors on the show do most of the scenes in one take. It doesn't really matter. It would be cool, but thats just me, being very unimportantly picky.

After watching the first episode, i find it very funny, and very much worth my time, and from thinking it was going to be a very bad show, i now insert my foot into my mouth

great show.

i think that cast is really talented and the characters and situations could have proved quite fertile ground had it been given more seasons. crenshaw house was like the island of misfit toys; a haven for those who can't help but be their destructive selfish selves- all under the supervision of Kenny, who see's with his heart and not his brain. it's not Sophie's choice, but it's fun to watch. c-bass was great, Carlie is funny and adorable, the gay dude has many great lines and is played well. serenity is funny and the arsonist is OK. it's the dynamic. and of course Kenny. he is a such a good guy with great lines. rock on crenshaw. boo wilshire house!!

This show is hilarious.

If you like Reno 911 you'd love Halfway Home. I love this genre of comedy. Reno 911, Dog Bites Man, Halfway Home and American Body Shop are full of improv style jokes. The filming style is perfect. As for it being an offensive show, that may be your take, but if it is I assume you don't like any of these kinds of shows. Reno 911 could be considered offensive, yet it's one of the most popular shows on Comedy Central.

I hear there isn't going to be a second season and that is a horrible move. It's not a stupid, offensive show. It's hilarious. The characters are original and have their unique quirks that make each joke all the better. The un-political correctness is a commentary on our culture. The diversity of the cast and the diversity of the comedy makes this a great watch.

I love this show and really hope that they will reconsider pulling it off the air. If people watch Reno 911, I don't see why they don't watch this show.
