When will we have a "straight" ant movie?
fubleduck5 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
By straight I mean one that doesn't falsify the social structure of the colony. The problem with having workers fall in love with each other is #1)All workers are sterile females. #2)The whole colony is related. #3) Only queens & drones are allowed to mate. All 3 movies are good stories(though this 3rd seemed a bit redundant) but truth can be as interesting as fiction. Some potential may exist in a movie/story about a mega-sisterhood, though some individuality may be lost. But not necessarily. I liked the ants feasting on honeydew, & the caterpillars were an impressive touch in grossing Lukas out. But ants get honeydew from aphids & other smaller insects. Antz was more accurate in this respect. Ant movies have a lot of potential, without having to stretch the truth by too far. There's a lot of room for intrigue. Amazon ants invade colonies of weaker ants take the young & raise them for themselves, & make slaves of them. Ants who guard aphids have to fight off ladybugs & lacewings.

Considering what Lukas put the ants through when he was big, it's a wonder any of them warmed up to him as soon as they did.

Honey, the Antz shrunk the kid

Here is the third installment in the ever popular series of Ant movies. I asked my six year old son what he thought of this movie, and his reply was "I liked Bug's Life better". I went along with an open mind, but I have to say that the whole 'Ant' theme is getting a little tired. The special effects were groovy and the A+ star cast were reasonably funny , but I can't say that the story is memorable or highly original. (Unlike Pixar films which tend to stand up well to high rotation.)

Having said that, I imagine that we will eventually purchase this film on DVD and be forced to endure a three 'Ant' movie marathon by our children one day!

Loved it

I'm a big fan of Antz so I never gave the ant bully a chance but I finally ended up seeing it today. Loved it. I saw the negativity about the movie so while I wasn't really wanting to review it I decided to review it because of it. (even had to recover my IMDb password to do it). Please ignore the negative comments and see it for yourself first. It's an interesting story done really well. The animation is top notch and as for hidden meanings. I think too many look for things to complain about in this negative world we now live in. Make up your own mind and if you don't like it great. But don't avoid this based on what appears to me to be a band wagon that many need to jump on to gain attention.
