Everyone loves a good bottle episode, which is when the characters of a TV show spend the entire episode (or almost the entire episode) in one setting. The practical point of this is to save money, and perhaps used that saved money to help make another episode that's expected to be way more expensive. But what about when a show seems to be doing a bottle episode, only to throw the premise upside down and give us something that looks even more expensive than a typical episode? Such was the case with "The Gang Saves the Day," the season 9 episode of "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" that technically takes place entirely in a convenience store. The gang finds themselves witnessing a burglary, and they spend the entire story trying to figure out how to handle this.
From the first scene, you'd think it'd be easy to imagine how this will all play out.

On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: Pregnancy Really Suits Arnold Schwarzenegger
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a movie star in possession of a comically large body, must be in want of a comically small scene partner. Every muscular action star eventually reaches a point when it’s time to pivot to comedy — and nothing smoothes that transition quite like a pint-sized foil who isn’t afraid to be sassy.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito struck box office gold in 1988 with “Twins,” a blockbuster comedy that dared audiences to imagine the physically mismatched actors as long lost brothers.

So what’s Nicolas Winding Refn been up to lately, besides advocating for WGA and SAG guild members to “burn it all down”? He’s hard at work in the UK shooting his next TV series after “Copenhagen Cowboy.” And it’s a strange project for Refn to do, to say the least. NewportFILM Outdoors, a unique celebration of documentary moviemaking that is held in some of the most iconic locations in one of the most storied summer resorts in America, has unveiled its latest line-up of films for its summer season.

What makes the Newport, Rhode Island event so memorable is that these screenings take place on the lawns of mansions like Marble House and The Elms, as well as historical locations like Fort Adams, which hosts the annual Newport Jazz Festival, and the Newport Polo Grounds. Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the finale of HBO Max’s “Station Eleven.”
Patrick Somerville and Jessica Rhoades — the executive producers who brought an intricate, moving adaptation of Emily St. John Mandel’s 2014 novel to HBO Max — faced the accidental task of creating a show about a pandemic during a pandemic. But they got through it, they said during a joint interview on Wednesday, together. “It is a deeply co-authored experience, from actor to director to producer to writer — above the line and below the line,” Somerville said.
Rhoades echoed that point, saying that their collective experiences during Covid-19 underlined the themes of “Station Eleven,” and deepened the story’s already practically fathomless core. “The show was healing us all as we were making it,” she said. “We were coming together in the middle of a really hard time to create something. Bob Dylan fans woke up this morning to the stunning news that the songwriter had released a 17-minute epic titled “Murder Most Foul.” “Greetings to my fans and followers, with gratitude for all your support and loyalty over the years,” Dylan wrote. “This is an unreleased song we recorded a while back that you might find interesting. Stay safe, stay observant, and may God be with you.”
It’s his first original song since 2012’s Tempest, though he has released three albums of cover songs associated with Frank Sinatra since then.

Before the show wrote out Michonne last week, The Walking Dead season 10 had just reached a major turning point in the Whisperer war, as Negan turned the tables on Alpha and killed her. In a further twist, it was revealed that he’s been working on Carol’s orders all this time and we last saw the pair as the former Savior dumped the zombified head of the villain at her feet. This Sunday’s episode will now explore the personal fallout of Carol’s plans coming to fruition.
In the above sneak peek at outing, titled “Look at the Flowers,” we start to see the effect that ordering the death of Alpha has had on Carol’s psyche. As she’s walking through the woods, she hears her name being whispered. She turns and is shocked to find Alpha. “I’m always watching,” the Whisperer queen says, with a grim smirk.

Even the greatest auteurs have to start somewhere.
Before he ventured into the far reaches of space and consciousness with “2001: A Space Odyssey,” probed the dark heart of humanity with “The Shining” or “A Clockwork Orange,” and chronicled the pageantry and brutality of the Roman Empire with “Spartacus,” Stanley Kubrick was a lowly staff photographer for Look magazine. It would be a decade before Hollywood came calling, but even in his early days behind a camera, Kubrick had a talent for capturing a revealing exchange or a sly glance that speaks volumes. His time at Look is the subject of a new exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York, titled “Through a Different Lens: Stanley Kubrick Photographs.” The show runs from May 3 through next October.
“You cannot look at photographs without knowing he’s going to be a filmmaker,” said Donald Albrecht, curator of architecture and design at the museum.

“The Halloween Bash is always one of our favorite days of the year because it allows families to spend a fun afternoon together while supporting our work to provide for families here in Los Angeles,” Jessica Seinfeld, Founder of Good+ Foundation, said.

“Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” enters its second season on BBC America on Saturday, but that doesn’t make the sci-fi/mystery/comedy/adventure series is any easier to summarize — even with a year under its belt. A new season doesn’t bring clarity, rather even more chaos and lunacy. Perhaps this is because it’s wholly the creation of Max Landis, who only kept the hero and the absurdist tone from Douglas Adams’ novels on which the series is based.
In its first season, the technicolor-clad Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) adopted has-been musician Todd Brotzman (Elijah Wood) as his assistant to help solve a murder using “holistic” methods in which the universe randomly provides him with the answers he needs. In short, there is no coincidence where Dirk is concerned. Along the way, the two encounter a time machine, a corgi, a holistic assassin, a kitten, four psychic...

There’s no place like home! Drake was back in his hometown of Toronto, Ontario, for the Ovo Fest and Caribana 2017.
After performing onstage, the “Signs” crooner, along with singers and rappers like The Weeknd, Migos, French Montana and Travis Scott, enjoyed bottle service at the official Ovo Fest After-Party on Aug. 7, presented by Ovo Chubbs and sponsored by Rémy Martin Cognac. Drake also managed to cool off during the hot weekend, hosting his own pool party with LeBron James.

Every horror fan has their favorite type of monster. Some people love shambling zombies, others prefer squid-faced aliens from beyond the stars, and I’m sure there are a few people out there who would swear that The Mangler is the greatest beast to grace the silver screen. But for me, one archetype has always reigned supreme: the scaly fish-man.
I can’t explain why, but ever since I was a kid, sea life has always interested me, so it should come as no surprise that as far as famous monsters go, the Gill-man’s always been my favorite. Unfortunately, being a fan of the Gill-man can lead to some issues. Unlike Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Mummy, the Gill-man was an original creation of Universal, and as such, was not in the public domain. So, while there are many great films bearing those iconic names, the Creature from the Black Lagoon only has three,...

Chicago – The 16th Tribeca Film Festival wrapped last Sunday (April 30, 2017) and the award-winning films of the festival have been named. Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com was there for the first week of Tribeca and files his personal best of the films he experienced.
This is Patrick switching to first person, and I was able to see 13 media and film works, and took a turn in the “Immersive” or Virtual Reality arcade (there will a separate article on that experience). I sampled TV, short films, documentaries and narrative films, and rank them from first preferred on down, but honestly I didn’t see anything that I didn’t like, which is a testament to the programmers of this iconic film festival.
The following are the prime 13, and an indication of when they are scheduled to release…

Labyrinth isn’t the only cult classic from yesteryear that’s poised to receive a new lease of life – according to The Hollywood Reporter, that long-rumored Coming to America sequel has officially sprung into life, and who better to script the screenplay than the original writers?
That’s right, after introducing Eddie Murphy’s wonderfully pompous Prince Akeem to the world in ’88, Paramount has welcomed back Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield to pen a treatment for the follow-up. THR goes on to note that the sequel is currently lingering in the very early stages of development, though we understand Kevin Misher (Carrie, Public Enemies) has signed on to produce.
The big question now is, of course, whether Murphy will reprise as Prince Akeem, who uprooted from a wealthy African nation for Brooklyn, New York in order to escape the clutches of an arranged marriage. It was the ultimate pitch for a fish-out-of-water comedy,...
