In June 1980, Thelton E. Henderson was appointed as a judge to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California by President Jimmy Carter. Henderson served as Chief Judge of the Northern District of California from 1990 to 1997. In 1998, Henderson retired from the U.S. District Court, and took "Senior Status," serving as a Senior Judge since 1998, and as of March 2012, is still serving in that capacity.
