Flash back in episode
berg-2717 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The episode is a great episode; in the top 10 or 15 of the whole five years.

The Flash back sequence was well-designed and very touching and sad.

In ancient Egypt, Hawkman and Shiare (in a past time) get stranded on earth and rise to power.

Hakeman's top General (Green Lantern in a past life) brings news of victory. He shows The Queen the new stallions. We find out here that they are lovers.

A Secretary to the King sees them together and reports it. At first, the King doesn't believe it, but later he sees them kissing! He wishes they were both dead. The Secretary overhears the King. That night, the King discovers the Queen and the General dead from poison. The king yells at the Secretary.

The Secretary leaves and hears the sound of a cup breaking on the floor. The King drinks the poison wine and dies as well! Sad But a very well done episode

I like the story but I don't like what it does to Hawkgirl's character

Warning: Spoilers
This affair puts Hawk-girl and GL's past life in very bad light IMO. Cheating on your partner is something a good person would never do and this affair make them look very bad. This story line in my opinion is meant to be a scandalous revelation, but most people took it as a romantic love story.

It's a one sided love on Hawk-man's side and an illicit affair on Hawk-girl and past GL's side.

But here's the thing, I don't believe they are their past lives anyway. That's just the sad story of different people, not our GL or Hawk-girl or Hawk-man. Yes the memories of the broken device shows an eerie similarity to our characters but it could easily be because of the malfunction of the device(as Hawk-girl said in this episode and even the last episode).

Our Hawk-girl have done some mistakes, but I can't put the ancient Hawk-girl's mistake on her. The current messy relationship of GL and Hawk-girl is actually pretty interesting and realistic, real break ups and relationships are messy. Especially John's stubbornness in rejecting Hawk-girl and staying with Vixen is pretty much in line with his personality and stubborn nature.

And in the end even Hawk-man realized he and Hawk-girl aren't meant to be together, because no one is "Meant" to be with anyone. He realized they just aren't a good match and he needs to move on. Honestly it's the right move, he shouldn't simp on a girl who's in love with someone else. Even if she started dating him, he'll always be number 2 in her heart and every man and woman deserve someone that loves them fully and not as a substitute.

Under Rated!!!

After watching this one, I was shocked to see such a low rating for this episode (6.7). It's fantastic! I completely agree with one of the previous posters that it's one of the top episodes in the 5 year run. While the previous Hawkman episode in this season was lacking quite a bit, this one COMPLETELY makes up for it. How could it not? Geoff Johns is one of the writers!

Ancient History does a great job at wrapping up aspects of the Hawkgirl/Green Lantern relationship - but not too neatly! I don't want to overhype it but it's due more credit than previous posters have given it.

Hats off to the writers!

I liked the series, but this story arc... not so much

Warning: Spoilers
I finally got the chance to see this series. It was overall very good and it included a lot of DC heroes you normally would only see in the comics. However, the love triangle with Hawkman, Hawkgirl and John Stewart was awful. Why? Because it made John and Hawkgirl some of the most terrible people ever. Let me get this straight... Shayera (spg?) cheated on her soulmate/husband because he wanted to bring peace to the world? Not only that she did it with his best friend? As for John Stewart (the Eygptian version), what kind of friend are you? You are not noble, not worthy of the power ring at all!

They really made John and Shayera to be dogsh*t people... and on top of that, they trampled on the Golden Age origin of Hawkman and Hawkgirl. John Stewart was one of the greatest GL's... but they made him dishonest and untrustworthy. Terrible.
