- They are like cat and mouse: the charming confectioner Alberto Puccini and the down-to-earth baker Katharina Achternhagen. Neighbours for two decades, the two have nothing but scorn for each other. In fact, Katharina and Alberto's ideas of delicious baked goods could hardly be more different: while the fun-loving widower Puccini produces real sugar bombs, the loner Katharina only offers healthy whole grain products. Both shops have their regular customers and all was well with the world as long as Alberto won the bakers' guild gold medal every year for his extravagant cakes and Katharina took first prize for whole grain bread with her "Kraftmeier" bread. But now the new chairman of the bakers' guild, Günther Zichorius, has fallen in love with Katharina and made sure that she wins the cake competition with one of her diet cake creations. For the confident Alberto, a world collapses. But Puccini doesn't give up so easily: To get revenge on his favorite enemy, he decides to take part in the wholemeal bread competition for the first time in his life and teach Katharina a lesson in her own specialty. That's easier said than done, because his first attempts in the field of wholemeal baking are anything but tempting. As the day of the competition draws ever closer, Puccini and his clever daughter Donatella try to get to the bottom of the secret recipe for Katharina's "Kraftmeier" bread: While grandson Leo is smuggled into the Achternhagen bakery as a spying apprentice, Alberto follows his rival. And lo and behold: the two squabblers soon become closer than they could have ever imagined.—ADR Das Erste
