Michael Hurst, who played Nigel, was the actor who usually played the part of Charon. Due to time restrictions, he was not able to play Charon for this story. Peter Rowley who replaced him was a friend of his who was very careful to play the part in the same style, including the voice mimicking the voice of classic comedic actor Jimmy Durante.
In the 1950s and lasting into the early '70s, CBS had a weekly program You Are There (1953), which taught history by showing reenactments of historical events with contemporary reporters interviewing the participants. So, reporters might show up at the 1066 AD Battle of Hastings interviewing both the Norman and the Anglo-Saxon generals and the common soldiers. The reporters were often actual prominent anchormen from CBS' news programs.
