In Aftershock (2000), Virgil is concerned that he will mutate due to being exposed to the big bang gas, so he tests his blood by comparing his blood with a sample of Richie's blood. The two find that their blood looks the same, which could have been showing that Richie had been affected by the big bang as well.
The names for his superhero persona Richie thinks of but Static rejects are Hardware, the name of a hero in Milestone comics continuity, and Steel a hero in DC comics who also made a DCAU appearance during Superman: The Animated Series (1996) in Heavy Metal (1997). Hardware and Steel are both engineers without super powers, but with a super armor. The two teamed up in the DC/Milestone crossover story "World's Collide" which also featured Static among the characters included in the story.
Gear is a nod to Rocket, Icon's sidekick in the Milestone comics. Rocket, like Gear, had a super genius I.Q. and invented gadgets to aid alien superhero Icon.
Kangor is part of the Meta-Breed in this episode.
In this episode, Static uses his catchphrase from the comics, "You don't start none, there won't be none".
