- Charlotte has come back after a 10-day honeymoon with Trey in Bermuda, and she confides in Carrie that she never had sex with him even once. Charlotte is frustrated that Trey cannot hold an erection. Carrie tells Charlotte that Trey might be impotent, a possibility that Charlotte had not considered so far.
Carrie meets with actor/producer Matthew McConaughey in LA (where she goes with Miranda and Samantha) to talk about optioning for her columns to make a movie. Miranda has to stay with Carrie as production company only booked 2 rooms.
Carrie meets Matthew, who loves Carrie's writing, but wants to cut Carrie's relationship with Big, out of the proposed movie. He then starts to dissect what's wrong with the Carrie character and all her relationships. Matthew says that he cannot understand why the character was not able to make it work with Mr. Big. He considers Big as cool and believes that it was the character's problem. Carrie cannot wait for the meeting to be over, but is obliged to sit through the meeting since Matthew's production house flew Carrie and her friends all the way over to LA.
Miranda meets Jason Dique (Edward Kerr). Jason seems interested in smart and intelligent women but runs after the first bimbo that he sees at the party. Miranda wrestles with the level of open sexuality in Los Angeles. even a lawyer dresses like a prostitute. Miranda says that in NYC a person's sexuality is hidden underneath the witty jokes and a positive personality, but out in LA, it is right in front of your face. Miranda finds the open sexuality very honest and extremely liberating and she wishes that she could be more like that herself. Samantha challenges her to stop complaining and to actually do something about it. Miranda gets on a mechanical bull (in a bar) and whips out the twins.
Back in NYC, Charlotte was having no progress with her sex life with Trey. Trey was busy writing thank you notes to everybody who gave gifts at their wedding. Charlotte uses the Internet to deal with Trey's impotence problem. On Carrie's suggesting she puts a paper ring around his penis (when he is sleeping) to figure out if the problem is physical or emotional. If the ring is broken the next morning, the problem is not physical. In the morning, the ring is broken. Initially, Charlotte is relieved since Trey is definitely capable of having an erection. Now she worries if the problem is her and that Trey is not able to hold an erection with her.
Samantha meets a dildo model Garth (James MacDonald). Garth invites Samantha and her friends to an exposition of a new line of sex toys, where Garth is the top celebrity. Samantha has sex with Garth that night. Samantha is interested in just sex, but Garth wants to know each other as people. He is a poet. He wants to move with Samantha to NYC to pursue poetry and porn. Samantha dumps him.
Eventually Carrie decides that she will work out her relationship issues by herself and decides to skip the remaining sessions with Matthew.
