Julia Kurtz: [about the dragon] I think we should just package it up and send it back to the museum in China if that's where it's been stolen from.
Reggie McDowell: But didn't we agree to send it to the police in Berlin?
Julia Kurtz: Yes, but we don't know if it's actually been stolen.
Vince Frasca: I wonder how much it's worth.
Reggie McDowell: Well, an awful lot if some creep's prepared to go halfway around the world for it.
Vince Frasca: How much do you reckon? A thousand bucks, maybe? A million?
[holds the dragon]
Reggie McDowell: Uh, maybe you shouldn't be touching it. We wouldn't want to wreck it.
Vince Frasca: Hey, I'm not the one who took a giant chunk out of its head.
Reggie McDowell: I did happen to mention it!
Vince Frasca: [sarcastically] Here's your million-dollar artifact opened. By the way, sorry about its head, but don't worry, nobody will notice I used invisible glue.
Reggie McDowell: Ha-ha! Well, we won't say that, will we? We'll say it's been broken in transit or something.
Vince Frasca: I wonder if there'll be a reward.
Jake Konrad: I hate to poop the party, but I think you better take a look at this.
[hands Reggie, Julia, and Vince piece a piece of paper each]
Jake Konrad: I emailed the museum in China. Made up some fake inquiry about the dragon, just to see if it's really stolen.
Reggie McDowell: Well, we know it's been stolen. We have it.
Jake Konrad: No, you don't. It's in Boston, part of a traveling exhibition.
Reggie McDowell: Well, obviously, it's been stolen from Boston.
Jake Konrad: And I contacted Boston.
[hands them another piece of paper]
Reggie McDowell: They have a fake?
Vince Frasca: Reggie, think about it. If it's in a traveling exhibition, then it'd be guarded 24 hours a day. The security would be so tight.
Julia Kurtz: Vince is right.
Reggie McDowell: Well, why would someone go to so much trouble for a fake? There has to be something valuable about this thing.
Jake Konrad: I reckon we should tell Mom about it.
Reggie McDowell: Tell her what, exactly? We don't know anything.
Julia Kurtz: You're right. Let's send it back to the police in Berlin and let them sort it out. It's giving me the creeps.
Jake Konrad: We can't. It's Friday. It won't leave the country until Monday.
Vince Frasca: So we hang onto it for now and send it Monday.
Reggie McDowell: Well, gives us some time to find out what's so precious about this ugly little sucker.
