- Hearing his brother and only surviving fellow Minnifeld died, Maurice looks for a 'son' to adopt. After Joel declines, he gets Chris to try, but although generosity gets them through the hard stuff, a game of croquet proves you can't adopt 'breeding'. When Ed tells Holling Jesse that the fiercest grizzly, who caused him to stop hunting anything else, is back, Shelly insists on joining them on a hunt which shows that although the men are older, the bear still knows them. Joel is asked to attend a hygiene class, but when he arrives learns it's for expectant mothers, which Maggie makes him improvise.—KGF Vissers
- Two Air Force officers visit Maurice to inform him that his brother Malcolm has died. This message disorients Maurice as he has no other surviving family to inherit the Minnifield empire he has been building. He decides he needs to find an heir and approaches Chris to give it a whirl. After all, Chris has no other surviving family members plus he knows him well as his employee on the radio station. As a token of their new relationship. Maurice gives Chris his prize Cadillac. He takes him out to the 15,000-acre tract of land that he envisions as the Alaskan Riviera of the future. Maurice then undertakes a program to instill the essence of "fine breeding" in Chris. The epitome of this effort is a formal game of croquet. Chris cannot handle it and stalks off. About the same time, Ed tells Holling that Jesse is back. Jesse is a ferocious grizzly who caused Holling to swear off hunting - except for killing Jesse. The bear had ripped open his back such that it needed more than a hundred stitches. Shelly insists on joining Ed and Holling on the hunt, insisting she needs to be near her "squeeze' should this be his last mission. Shelly and Holling spend so much time romping in the tent, that Jesse comes and goes with the only evidence a photo taken by Ed. Joel is asked to attend a hygiene class in a community that requires a 6-hour drive each direction. He talks Maggie into flying him there. Once he arrives, he discovers that it is a birthing class for expectant mothers. Maggie helps him improvise. She is savvier to relaxation techniques to help the moms-to-be whereas Joel just coaches them to say, "I need an epidural". During one of the classes, a woman goes into labor. Joel and Maggie nicely deliver the baby together. Maurice is impressed that Joel brought a new life into the world. He has sworn off looking for an heir, deciding that his new plan is to live forever. It starts snowing.—Garon Smith
- While Dr. Fleishman administers prenatal classes, Holling engages in a death match against an old adversary: Jesse The Bear. Meanwhile, Maurice decides to adopt Chris.
