Filmed during the Miami Grand Prix, round 2 of the IMSA Camel GT championship on 24th February 1985. That race was won by Al Holbert and Derek Bell driving the same Lowenbrau-sponsored Porsche 962 driven by Danny Tepper in the episode. Bell himself plays a cameo role as his driving partner, congratulating Tepper then hands him a cup of water.
The father and son relationship of the Teppers mirrored that of the father and son racing drivers John Paul, Jr. and Sr., a talented racer with a drug trafficking father.
This episode marks the second and final appearance of Annie Golden as Crockett's mechanic, Tommy, who was originally to be a valuable source of street information (replacing Charlie Barnett's Noogie Lamont), but the character never caught on.
The Fat Boys make a cameo appearance at the beginning of the episode, with Darren Robinson (aka The Human Beat Box) being forced to eat a marijuana joint after Tubbs asks him to "make it disappear".
In the race track practice scene for the IMSA race, just after Frank Tepper driving car #85 pulls into the pits, there is a brief shot of a race car driver being interviewed. That race car driver is Willy T. Ribbs. Mr. Ribbs driving #6 Ford Mustang in the GTO class, won his class in that IMSA race. In total, Mr. Ribbs won 4 IMSA races as well as 17 SCCA Trans Am races.
