Wes bombs again
Rrrobert13 October 2019
The pathetic Wes (Jerry Van Dyke) returns and takes a job in the newsroom - between doctoring scripts for Chuckles the Clown. Wes tries to reignite his romance with Mary but she is less interested in him. As usual, Mary tries to avoid confronting the issue leading to awkwardness. When Lou tries Wes's idea for the news to be presented from the newsroom itself Wes arrives drunk as the show is about to start...

The episode was OK. The needy Wes is annoying but the regulars keep things moving. I thought Ted's news report was pretty funny.

Chuckles the Clown, played by the third actor in the role, appears in a lengthy dialogue scene.

Not Funny, Not Funny, Not Funny

Whatever possessed the producers of this wonderful show to bring back Jerry Van Dyke is beyond me. He plays a guy named Wes Callison, who writes for Chuckles the Clown (who appears in this episode). He is a sickening guy who doesn't have clue how sickening he is. In his first appearance he tried to be a stand-up comedian. He was a total failure. We're supposed to believe that Mary had some romantic interest in him. Anyway, he comes up with an idea for a show, then sabotages it because he is drunk. Of all the episodes that I have watched of this show, there are less laughs on this one than any other I've seen. Even Ted isn't funny.
