HOMICIDE – "Aunt Sally' – 1964 This is episode 6 of the long running Australian Police series, HOMICIDE. This series ran 510 episodes between 1964 and 1977.

There has been robbery at a factory payroll office and a clerk as been mortally wounded. Two men in stocking masks had held up the place at gunpoint and escaped with 10 large. They had shot the clerk when he followed them out to the stolen getaway car.

The two crooks, Jack Brophy and George Long, speed out of town and meet a second car being driven by Long's girl, Dawn Klingberg. They dump the stolen car and drive back to town after they bury the loot.

Homicide Detectives, Terry McDermott, Lex Mitchell, and their boss, Inspector John Fegan get the call. No joy from any of the witnesses because the hold-up men were wearing masks. So it is back to the office for a look at the usual suspects files. That leads nowhere as well.

Detective McDermott decides he will call on his best informant. McDermott calls the man "Aunt Sally". The informer, Al Mack, agrees on a price with Detective McDermott and heads out to beat the "bushes".

Mack soon comes up with the name of one of the likely gunman. The man fingered is Long. He is quickly pulled in for a bout of very close face to face. They also give the girl, Klingberg, a round of 3rd degree. She has a sheet as a "working girl".

Long finally folds after being told that the clerk has died. He offers up Brophy as the gunman. Long swears he was just a driver. The detectives let Long and Klingberg go in hopes it will flush out Brophy. And flush him out it does. The only problem is that Brophy decides to tidy up the loose end that is Long. Brophy applies a bullet to Long's back before the Police can step in.

Brophy and the 10 large are soon at the Police station. McDermott asks why Brophy shot the clerk. "He was in on the robbery and chased us to make it look good. I decided that a three way split was not needed and disposed of the problem".

A long fall with a short rope would seem to be in Brophy's future.

Nicely made episode that moves right along. (b/w)
