Helping Bank Robbers
sambase-3877310 February 2022
Gomer and his girlfriend are walking by a cafe and they decide to go inside even though there is no sign saying that it's open. So they go inside and see no customers, no employees, and the place is filthy dirty and looks like it's still under construction. Clearly it's not a restaurant that's open and ready for business. This is where every human being I have ever known would walk back out and find another place to eat. That's what you would do. That's what I would do. That's what everybody would do. But....

But.... Gomer being Gomer, he starts looking around and calling out, thinking he can get something to eat in a place that is clearly not open in any way shape or form. Eventually some guy (actually a bank robber trying to dig through the wall to the bank next door) comes upstairs and states that the restaurant is not open and is not ready for business. He wants Gomer to leave. This is where Gomer leaves, Right? Wrong. He keeps asking nosy questions, totally putting the guy on the spot. The guy, getting frustrated with Gomer, says that the only food they have is the sack lunch for himself and his partner. Astoundingly, Gomer says that he would like to eat their lunch. What?!

Turns out there are raw eggs in the sack. Gomer says that he wants some scrambled eggs, but the guy doesn't know how to cook, not even eggs. So Gomer teaches him how to cook eggs. This is just too much. This is where I fell off the couch in exasperation. This episode is really absurd and unbelievable. Kind of funny in some ways, but really absurd.

Basically Gomer tries to help the bank robbers open a restaurant, but the bank robbers just want him to leave so they can rob the bank. That's the gist of the episode. There are some laughs of course, but Gomer's do-gooder complex is way over the top in this episode and gets downright nauseating. And he's just pushy as hell to the point where you wonder why the bank robbers didn't just shoot him right then and there. Gomer is just too annoying in this episode for my taste. And I like Gomer so that's saying something. It does have a surprise ending. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!
