Arthur Hill and Norma Crane play the parents of Richard Thomas, a 9 year old boy who is caught in the cross-fire of the war between them, which has now been reduced to a custody battle.
The challenge of the lawyers is to figure out what these people really want and it turns out to be pretty simple: they still love each other and want to stop fighting and get back together. They have to be made to realize that. The ending is rather pat but the performances are good.
Joan Hackett re-appears as Kenneth Preston's girlfriend. She's more involved with the story here, becoming a confide=ant of the boy and sounding board for Kenneth. Her character seems to be patterned after Nancy Malone's in Naked City.
Sadly, we lost both Crane and Hackett to cancer at the early ages of 44 and 49, respectively.
