The third season ends with Jack Albertson doing double duty
kevinolzak4 July 2016
"Uncle Sonny" was the third season finale, third episode in the post-Freddie Prinze era, the first to not even mention the absent Chico, who was said to be away in Mexico the previous two entries. This time, Jack Albertson does double duty as both Ed Brown, going off on a fishing trip, and his equally irascible Uncle Sonny, quite a flashy ladies man for age 85, stopping over in his nephew's garage before making his way to Alaska. As hard a boozer as Ed, Uncle Sonny at least knows how to have a good time in the company of much younger women, which doesn't sit well with his wife Annalou (Chanin Hale), who married Sonny because she wanted to combine a father with an overprotected son! Uncle and nephew never actually meet, Ed returning home after Sonny has departed. The series was already renewed for a fourth season but the uncertainty must have been overwhelming, no easy solutions. What they came up with was probably not what anyone expected.
