- After being fired in one town, Cheyenne is hired to help another town rid itself of a clan who have held them in their grip for too long. With the help of a wanted outlaw who once saved his life, he reluctantly accepts the job.
- Cheyenne is being paid $60 a month to be sheriff. With the town now under control the city officials want him to take a pay cut to $40 or they will hire a young man who has worked sporadically as Cheyenne's deputy. He refuses so they decide to give the job to 21 year old Billy Fipps. At the same time outlaw Luis Boladas takes a room at the hotel. He has a $10,000 bounty on his head. Billy tries to arrest him but his inexperience results in Billy's death and Cheyenne arresting Luis. The town wants to lynch Luis so Cheyenne decides to take him to the federal marshal. During a rest Luis reveals he once saved Cheyenne from a hanging and a rope burn. He says he was framed for the robbery by the Cocklin brothers so Cheyenne decides to fake his death and to help him find the brothers. Their quest is cut short when two men and a woman take him off a stage to help clear the MCracken clan out of their home town - Three Corners. They can only pay $20 but force Cheyenne and Luis to help after Luis reveals the McCrackens are related to the Cocklins.
