Douglas Day Stewart wrote this episode. In a few years, Stewart would write the classic tv movie THE BOY IN THE PLASTIC BUBBLE, later AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN. Need we say more?
10 Stars.
This is a fairly relatable story, all about a child in the middle of a bitter custody battle. Stewart obviously grabbed the idea from MANNIX, who had his fair share of kids mixed up with terrible folks. A dramatic and sentimental story as Cannon matches wits with a clever and nasty thief named Stubber (well played by George Maharis). Stubber is the father of the boy and also the separated husband of Stephanie Powers, making her first series appearance here.
He makes a lot of trouble for his ex-wife. A neat gag scene has Cannon walking into his empty apartment, all his furniture GONE. This all ties to a wide scaling hijacking business.
Stephanie Powers, as usual, is very good here. Robert Mandan plays Cannon's right hand man, instead of a heavy this time around. Watch for young Max Gail and veteran Kathleen Freeman, having fun with her role as the tough cookie mom of a couple of crooks.
This one runs fast. YES --that is part of the Juputer 2 (LOST IN SPACE) spaceship control panel in a computer lab scene. Cannon's home is the legendary Sunset Towers (which glows as the sun sets) and was nearly torn down in the 1980s, but is alive and well today at 8358 Sunset Boulevard. The place looks the same today as it did in the 70s. A historical landmark, classic example of 1930s art deco style.
Cannon, in a blue bathrobe, sleeping on a cheap, cheap cot is priceless! The crew had to love this.
