Laura falls victim to a jewel thief and the police suspect Howard. After all he has a criminal record.

There has been a spate of burglaries in the area. The police led by Detective Sergeant Evans (Jame Grout) have nicknamed him Raffles. He wears strong after shave and whistles a tune from the opera Carmen.

Howard ropes in Trevor to clear his name. He also thinks this might get him into Laura's good books.

With a small cast that includes just two policemen, it leads to just a few suspects. Then after Howard sets his trap. The burglar turns out to be Howard's old prison friend Greasy (now played by a different actor from series one.)

The episode benefits from a nice turn from James Grout who shows he could be adept in comedy as well as drama.

Burglary

Laura's house is burglarized and her jewels stolen.

A slightly amusing episode, no big laughs. The police suspect Howard due to his record. The burglar is given the name Raffles by the police, Howard and Trevor try to set a trap for him. An amusing scene has Trevor on the phone with police sergeant on the case. Howard says some incriminating things not realizing the cop is on the phone. The real burglar turns out to be Greasy, Howard's old cell mate. He appeared on a much funnier episode (played by a different actor) Suspicion from Season 1. Greasy puts Laura's jewel box in Trevor's sofa. Funny scene where Laura and the cop sit on it. It ends with Laura getting a dog, setting up the next episode.
