When a very powerful landowner from the northern part of the state, Samuel Endicott, tries to influence Ben to support Judge Farraday for the next Governor, Ben is alarmed. It seems that Endicott is a person that demands favors for his support and Ben wants no part of the corruption. But Endicott is a man that takes down anyone in his way. And in his way is Ben Cartwright.
Endicott hires a gunman to kill Ben and then he will say that Ben supported his candidate at the convention. Wilburn White is a gunman, traveling around disguised as a hardware salesman, that shoots Ben to collect his blood money.
Low and behold, Ben only received minor injuries but wants to make people believe that he is dead so that Endicott can show his hand. Ben makes a surprise visit to the State convention but the real crack in the facade will happen during a mishap while loading a luggage trunk.
This is the second time in three episode that Ben has received a bullet. Yet both times it was just a flesh wound making him a very lucky man, thanks to TV. The story, which was somewhat hard to believe, was still interesting enough to make the viewer entertained to the very end. Nice watch.
