Boo-hoo. Let me wipe away the tears with my plastic hand
SleepTight6663 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Boo-hoo. Let me wipe away the tears with my plastic hand - A quite fun episode that may not be one of the most memorable ones, but it's still entertaining enough to enjoy. 'Lindsey' and 'Lilah' are the main source of fun, of love those two bickering as much as when they work together. But they are different 'Lindsey' is kind of the rebel who wants his own rules and doesn't care if Wolfram & Heart want 'Angel' dead or not, 'Lilah' on the other hand tries to do everything by the rules and is dead afraid of 'Angel'. In this episode we also see a long lost character back called 'Anne' who appeared twice on BTVS, her character is very sweet and caring and she deserved all that money that 'Angel' gave her at the end. Another thing I loved about the episode were the three fired fang gang members looking for their new agency, they work well together and their scenes were quite fun. What I didn't like that much was the forced storyline of Wolfram & Heart doing charity work to gain a good image but most of all, an old enemy of 'Angel' called 'Boone' who double crossed Wolfram & Heart and then fights it out with 'Angel', his character was just unnecessary and simply brought down the quality of the episode. But nevertheless, the episode has lots of fun moments, I also strangely liked 'Merl's scenes a lot and also the tape on where 'Wesley' is stripping and 'Cordy' shows off her acting skills. Very fun episode but sadly, also quite skipable. ANGEL: It's actually kind of fun when you know the rules. I mean, when you know that there aren't any. You screw with me, and you screw with me, and... you screw with me. And now I get to screw with you. LILAH: Uh... ANGEL: That's gonna be great! LILAH: Angel, please... ANGEL: No. No. No. No. The begging, that comes later. (7.5 out of 10)

BLOOD MONEY

The Good; Anne's back, wonderful the way minor characters from old eps can now assume major roles in the Buffyverse. A nice pastiche of the cynicism of major corporations.

The Bad; Couldn't they have got some real TV stars to do that benefit?

Best line: Lindsey "Boo hoo Lilah, let me wipe away the tears with my plastic hand!"

Jeez, how did they get away with that? Anne refer to a 14 year old prostitute lying in her own blood after a rough trick, uuggghhhh! (real life always more horrific than supernatural evil)

Apocalypses: 4

Angel Clichés Damsel in distress; 17

In disguise; 7

DB get's his shirt off; 11

Cordy's tattoo;3

Cheap Angel; he owes Merle money 6

Fang Gang in bondage: Cordy: 5 Angel: 8 Wes: 3

Fang gang knocked out: Cordy: 10 Angel: 12 Wes: 5 Doyle; 1 Gunn; 1

Kills: Half a demon for Wes and Gunn Cordy: 5 vamps, 1 demons Angel; 22 vamps, 31 and 1/2 demons, 3 humans Doyle; 1 vamp Wes; 1 demon Kate; 3 vamps Faith; 16 vamps, 6 demons, 3 humans. Gunn; 5 vamps+ 2 and half demons.

Fang Gang go evil: Cordy: 2 Angel: 2

Alternate Fang Gang: Cordy: 2 Angel: 6

Characters killed: 30

Recurring characters killed; Holland the scumbag appears again, I bet he's looking up rather than down and could use some ice about now 4;

Total number of Angel Investigations: 3 or 1? 4, Angel, Cordy, Wes and Gunn

Angel Investigations shot: Angel: 10

Packing heat; Wes; 2 Doyle; 1 Angel; 1

Notches on Fang Gang bedpost: Cordy: 2 ?+Wilson/Hacksaw Beast Angel: 1;Buffy Wes; 2; Virginia and the bleached blonde

Kinky dinky: Kennell's school for girls, why is it that the buildings supernatural evil always seems to be drawn to are filled with teenage schoolgirls? (The Craft, Suspira, Carrie and countless trashier efforts, Satan's School for Girls, 5 Girls anyone?) Or did I just answer my own question? It's implied that Angel enjoys dressing up in Cordy's clothes. Angel says he is hitching a ride in Lilah's back seat, probably literally but the way he says it hints at innuendo.

Captain Subtext; The 'Life Lessons' actress is asked why they made her character gay, an obvious nod to Willow on Buffy

Know the face, different character; Anne/Lily/Chantrelle but still the same girl 2

Parking garages; yep, Angel attacks Lilah in hers 6,

Guantanamo Bay; More Merle bashing, you genuinely start to feel sorry for him.

Buffy characters on Angel; 14 Wetherby, Collins and Smith. Angel, Cordy, Oz, Spike, Buffy, Wes, Faith, Darla, Dru, Master, Anne

Questions and observations; Angel criticises Merle's beanbags, surely he had some during the Manilow years. We're told that Angel was in Mexico in the 20s and fought Boon over a girl, love to see that in the comics some time. Love his built-in knuckledusters. So why doesn't Anne recognise Angel when she was introduced to him in the Buffy ep Lie to Me? Interesting to see Wes as Bond, he would have been great in the Roger Moore style. Presumably Angel beats Boon for the money.

Marks out of 10; 6/10 standalone ep, some nice stuff with Anne and Boon and some nice humour with Lindsey and Lilah.

Gun, Chase And Price

The show became more interesting without the 3 stooges in the mix, and Cordelia's boy haircut makes her look like that harlet Valerie from Beverly Hills 90210.

Nice Easter Egg
amelieduchenne19 April 2021
I'm surprised so many people did not pay enough attention to realize the major Easter Egg in this episode, the true motivation for Angel to return to his friends: The head of the homeless shelter who now goes by Anne.

In Buffy The Vampire Slayer, she went by the name "Chanterelle," and was part of a vampire cult, briefly meeting Angel in Sunnydale. She reappeared in BTVS season 3 when Buffy went by her middle name Anne while waitressing in L. A., ultimately asking Buffy if she could borrow that name to use it for herself. "Anne" even mentions meeting Angel years ago but obviously neither of them recognize the other.

Angel once helped her turn her life around and now she is doing the same for him. Without "Anne," he wouldn't have reconnected with his friends. This is a very sweet little episode, plus it has Mark Rolston (Alastair in SPN) in it too, so great fun all around!

Go on, English, make your move, 'cause it'll be your last.

Warning: Spoilers
Blood Money is about Angel investigating Wolfram and Hart's fund raising for a local teen shelter.

The batch of episodes starting here, while none in the upper upper echelon, they're significant in the character arcs and this one in particular underrated. Angel trying to unsettle the cog of the well oiled machine that's Wolfram and Hart. Julia Lee's so cute here, especially walking down that path, golly. I like her character's involvement though, giving the show broader depth in both the runaway youths and an example of how Wolfram and Hart operates. I like that it doesn't just follow up on Darla or Angel talking it out with the gang, it branches out, opening up new possibilities without closing any doors. Wes and Gunn's plot totally unrealistic, but they're bonding fighting side by side. Poor Merl, he's been getting a rough go of it.

The most skip-able episode of the season
katierose29525 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
If I was going to skip one episode in season two, "Blood Money" would probably be it. Nothing much happens and it doesn't make a lot of sense in the over all plot line. You could watch Anne in "The Thin Dead Line" and really pick up everything you need to know to follow the story. If you're in a hurry to get through the season, you could probably skip "Blood Money" and not miss a thing.

Basically, "Blood Money" revolves around a fund raiser for the local teen shelter. Wolfram and Hart is sponsoring the event, which causes Angel to get involved. He tries to convince the woman who runs the shelter, Anne, that Wolfram and Hart are the bad guys. They're out to steal the money from her, not use it to help homeless teens. Anne doesn't want to believe it, at first. Slowly, she begins to see that Angel may be right. Meanwhile, Wes, Cordy and Gunn are struggling to make a go of it on their own. They want to keep Angel Investigations open and decide to rent an office for themselves. Also, a demon has come to town to challenge Angel to a duel. The two of the fought a few decades before but never got to finish the battle. Now he wants to know if he could beat Angel. He can't.

There are some good parts to this episode. I like Angel donating Cordy's clothes to Anne's shelter. His generosity will come up again in "The Thin Dead Line" and "Disharmony," so it's funny to see him actually giving Cordy's outfits away in this episode. He's gonna pay for that. Also, I like that Cordy's Angel Inc. logo continues to be so unpopular. No one can even tell it's suppose to be an Angel. (Gunn guesses "lobster.") It's just a cute running joke. And I like the benefit, where someone asks one of the actresses attending if her character's homosexuality is just a ratings grab or what? It's a nice little nod to BTVS, where Willow's homosexuality caused some controversy. Finally, you just have to laugh at that video Angel has shown. Wes dancing around, Cordy doing lines from milk commercials, the two of them bickering over the camera... It's just hilarious.

On the downside, I can't believe that no one mentions that Angel and Anne already know each other. How can "Blood Money" just ignore their history? In BTSV season two's "Lie to Me." Angel tried to talk Anne (who was then going by the name Chanterelle) out of her vampire obsession. Spike attacked Anne in that episode, ruining her romantic image of vampires of "the lonely ones" once and for all. And in BTVS season three's "Anne," Buffy saved Anne (who was then going by the name Lily) from a hell dimension. "Lily" took on Buffy's middle name, which is why she's called "Anne," now. I just don't understand why "Blood Money" misses all those references. Also, would a huge, profitable law firm like Wolfram and Hart really go to so much trouble to embezzle two million dollars? It seems like small change to them. And what was Angel's plan, again? Just to make Lila and Lindsey look bad? It seems like this was a really complex way to go about embarrassing them.

My favorite part of the episode: Gunn, Cordy and Wes arguing over the name of their new detective agency. All three of them want to name it after themselves, which is pretty funny.

Angel Playing Games
Samuel-Shovel5 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Blood Money has an old rival of Angel's come to town, intent on challenging him to a fight. Angel's busy tracking a young woman who runs a teen shelter Wolfram & Heart has taken an interest in. All this comes to a head with a scheme of Angel's that twists and turns all the way to the finish as W&H attempts to swindle millions of dollars from the shelter.

This was a pretty humdrum episode of Angel. The entire premise of W&H stealing money from a children's homeless shelter is almost laughable in its pure evilness. Don't they have better ways to occupy their time and make absurd amounts of money? Also the ending with actual blood on the money was wayyyyy too much on the nose. How about a little subtlety guys?

Its interesting that this character (now going by Anne) continues to pop up. We'll see if she sides with Angel. Her previous meetings with Buffy might help Angel in the future.

Angel is ready to go off the deep end. He's finally fed up and ready to get sadistic. Will this cause him to go down an even darker path? Unlikely, but possible.

We finally learn why W&H have been keeping him around, he's important during the apocalypse. If they want him to go crazy, it is working.

Conclusion: Skippable episode that pours it on thick!
