Andy, Barney and Opie are the only regulars to appear in this episode. The supporting cast is played entirely by actors who either played a different character later in the series or never appeared again.
Despite the fact that Ed Sawyer is welcomed as a citizen of Mayberry in this episode, he subsequently disappears, never to be seen in the series again.
'Bill Matthews,' the guy who starts a fight with Ed Sawyer is played by Pat Colby, who returns as 'Jimmy Morgan' in "The Great Filling Station Robbery."
Howard McNear played Floyd Lawson throughout the show except here, where Floyd was initially played by Walter Baldwin. Here, Floyd is a sleepy, laid back individual, but thereafter an excitable individual.
The episode serves as an object lesson in the creepy aspects of fame by reversing the condition of celebrity. Instead of everyone knowing everything about one individual, one individual knows everything about everyone.
