- A notorious con artist and his thugs are going to all the antique shops in town, buying cheap figurines, and smashing them. Clark and Lois assume that they are looking for something hidden inside the figurines, so they investigate.
- Synopsis S 1 Ep 4 The Mystery of the Broken Statues Opening scene is at Bonelli's Artcraft Shop where two men (Tris Coffin [taller] and Phillip Pine) enter, break ten plaster statues at 50¢ each, pay five dollars to the proprietor (Michael Vallon), find nothing, leave the store. Lois enters to pick up her package, inquires why the floor mess, leaves. Lois greets Edward's shop owner (Steve Carr, white hair, thin mustache) with dust pan, telling him what occurred. Lois and Clark each venture out to the shops featuring similar statues, Lois buys fifteen, driving off with them in plain sight of the two men from Bonelli's, carts them home, breaks each, finding a locker key, hiding the key in her lipstick holder. She is surprised by the two men entering the apartment and screams. Two other men (one henchman Pete) at Ellie's shop find three pennies in their smashed statues, the owner (Maurice Cass) calls police when Clark holds the men. Henderson isn't happy with Kent when he has the men arrested without justifiable cause, but Kent says the tall one is Paul Marden, one of the top confidence men there is. Clark goes to Lois's apartment, sees through the door of the mess made, enters, looks around and calls police. At the National Import Co. Lois is escorted inside, cracks a statue over Marden's head, is held in a separate room, while Marden looks through the purse contents and finds the key. Lois is tied, gagged and escorted to the plane. Marden's henchman is questioned by Henderson, tells of the plane Marden keeps, as Clarks runs out of the office. Superman catches the plane on the runway holding Dorn and Miss Lane. Clark chalkboard draws the seven icons of the statue's objects connecting them with arithmetic signs, plus then minus, in succession. The result of the rebus puzzle is PO97M, or post office 97 main branch. They go to the post office to find Marden opening box 97, cuffed, package confiscated. The package addressed to the box, no name included is a plaster pig, which Clark breaks open to find the Rensalear ruby, the largest ruby in the world, stolen three years ago from the London museum. What a story Lois claims, thanks to Clark and Superman. Sometimes two heads are better than one, Clark quips.
