- Jane Saunders: You ok?
- Tony Almeida: It's just traffic
- Jane Saunders: You've been acting weird since we left
- Tony Almeida: There's a lot going on right now
- Jane Saunders: You never really "explained" why you wanted to transfer me to this "Division" place
- Tony Almeida: I told you...
- Jane Saunders: [Interrupts him] I know what you told me: it doesn't make sense
- Tony Almeida: I don't have the time to explain it to you right now
- Chase Edmunds: What're you doing?
- Kim Bauer: I'm working with a team that's monitoring my father. I thought you were setting up a tactical unit?
- Chase Edmunds: Yeah, I am: we have to wait for a location on Saunders until then we're pretty much on standby
- Kim Bauer: Alright
- Chase Edmunds: Listen, before I have to go back out there I want to talk to you
- Kim Bauer: About what?
- Chase Edmunds: About us, I need to know if there's going to be an "us"
- Kim Bauer: I've been thinking about it a lot and the baby changes everything
- Chase Edmunds: It doesn't change the way I feel about you
- Kim Bauer: Let's forget about "me" for a second: you have a daughter and a job that won't let you be with her
- Chase Edmunds: Is that you talking or your father?
- Kim Bauer: My dad would be the first one to admit it, he wasn't the greatest dad and it wasn't because he didn't love me, I know he loved me. It was because of his job
- Chase Edmunds: If I transferred out of Field Ops, would you consider staying with me?
- Kim Bauer: I would stay with you and I would raise a child with you I just won't raise one for you
- Jane Saunders: I know your lying to me, I know you're not taking me to Division
- Tony Almeida: You'll be fine, alright?
- Jane Saunders: At least tell me where we're going?
- Jane Saunders: [Raises her voice after he remains silent] where are you taking me?
- Tony Almeida: Back to your father
- Jane Saunders: My father? Why?
- Tony Almeida: His holding my wife hostage: he'll kill her if I don't take you back to him
- Jane Saunders: So basically you're kidnapping me
- Tony Almeida: I'm sorry
- Jane Saunders: After everything he's done, how can you be sure he'll do what he says? How do you know he won't kill your wife anyway?
- Tony Almeida: I don't have a choice, I wish I did but I don't
- Tony Almeida: Saunders has Michelle
- Jack Bauer: I know
- Tony Almeida: He wants to make a trade: Michelle for his daughter
- Jack Bauer: I know, I can't let that happen
- Tony Almeida: I almost lost her once today, I'm not losing her again
- Jack Bauer: Listen to me, I know exactly how you feel. I've been there
- Tony Almeida: And you handled it exactly like me, you kept everyone else out of it
- Jack Bauer: This is different: millions of lives are at stake
- Tony Almeida: Oh, rules apply to other people but not to you right?
- Jack Bauer: Just calm down ok? Come on
- Tony Almeida: You help me make this trade, I'll turn myself in, go to prison, and whatever's going to happen
- Jack Bauer: I can't do it. We need to lure her father in
- Tony Almeida: Even if it means Michelle is going to die?
- Jack Bauer: Michelle doesn't have to die. We can "string" Saunders along, I need you to start working with me. Chase has already got a strike team...
- Tony Almeida: [Interrupts him] no! Saunders sees I brought CTU into this, he kills Michelle
- Jack Bauer: His not going to know we're there. Where are you meeting him? You don't have a choice right now. You've got to work with me, where is the meeting? Come on, where are you meeting him?
- Tony Almeida: He wants me to be at a public pay phone on the corner of Taylor and Vine in five minutes. He'll give me further instructions from there
- Jack Bauer: Thank you, you're doing the right thing
- Wayne Palmer: [Briefing David using a map of the city on a monitor] quarantined areas are circled in red: now as far we know we have containment
- President David Palmer: Still not certain?
- Wayne Palmer: No, we can't really be certain for hours: maybe days. Listen, the press has been breathing down Gerry's neck pretty hard, now he thinks we should release a statement
- President David Palmer: I already have. I've closed down public transportation and I've told the people to stay in their homes. We have F-18's patrolling the sky
- Wayne Palmer: You haven't revealed the exact nature of this threat and press has been picking up on that
- President David Palmer: We have ten million people spread out over a four thousand square mile area. If even a small percentage decide to leave at the same time, it will ignite a public panic beyond anything we could control. The "right" thing to do is to withhold the truth until we're sure the virus is contained
- Wayne Palmer: [Before walking away] I'll tell Gerry to hold off on the press as long as he can
- President David Palmer: [Meeting privately] please take a seat
- Senator John Keeler: Thank you, I'll stand
- President David Palmer: You can imagine my surprise when I was told me you wanted to see me: are you withdrawing from the race?
- Senator John Keeler: Mr. President, with respect to the death of Alan Milliken, I know you lied to the police
- President David Palmer: Excuse me?
- Senator John Keeler: You obstructed the investigation of a capital crime
- President David Palmer: That's a baseless charge though I've come to expected this recklessness from you
- Senator John Keeler: No Sir, it is neither "baseless" nor "reckless." This is a photograph of the Nitroglycerin that would've saved Milliken's life: if it hadn't been kept from him, you told the police Sherry was with you at the time of Milliken's death. Fingerprints on this prescription bottle prove otherwise. Now the last thing this country needs is to have its President "dragged through the mud" for complicity in a murder
- President David Palmer: Why are you showing me this? What do you want?
- Senator John Keeler: Your resignation: not immediately of course but once this crisis you're dealing with is over, you can resign with any kind of "face saving" reason you want to give
- President David Palmer: [Sternly] get out of here
- Senator John Keeler: I'm giving you the chance to leave this Office with honor, to control how your legacy is written. It's a good deal, you should take it
- Tony Almeida: [At a payphone with Jack listening in] where are we meeting?
- Stephen Saunders: First, let me speak with my daughter
- Tony Almeida: No, you can talk to her when we make the exchange
- Stephen Saunders: Alright, bring her to an industrial park three miles north of where you are: on Morton Road, a car will waiting at loading dock twenty-two
- Tony Almeida: No, choose a new place that doesn't work
- Stephen Saunders: Make it work. You've got ten minutes to get to the industrial park or your wife will die
- Tony Almeida: If we meet there, we all die
- Stephen Saunders: Really?
- Tony Almeida: CTU has redundant satellites in that area. They're dedicating all their resources into finding me right now. If you want your daughter back safely, you pick a new spot
- Stephen Saunders: I am not negotiating terms Mr. Almeida, I've planned too long and too hard for today and I will do whatever it takes to make sure nothing interferes. Even if that means sacrificing my daughter, do you understand my commitment Mr. Almeida..?
- Tony Almeida: [Jack presses down on the receiver hanging up the phone] what the hell are you doing? He wasn't going for it
- Jack Bauer: His testing you, his heard what you have to say, he'll phone back, now hang up the phone
- Tony Almeida: How do you know?
- Jack Bauer: Because right now he thinks I'm going to kill his daughter: the only reason why he exposed himself is to make sure that she's still safe
- Tony Almeida: Maybe that's what you do, but you're not Saunders. No matter how well you think you know this guy, you're not him. This isn't a game, we're talking about my wife
- Jack Bauer: Michelle has a better chance of surviving if we control the ground where the exchange is going to take place
- Tony Almeida: Protecting her is not your priority is it? If she were to get killed, that would be an "acceptable loss", wouldn't it? My God, didn't you learn anything from what happened to Teri?
- Jack Bauer: [after pushing him] shut up!
- Tony Almeida: [while he walks away] just because you sacrificed your wife for this job, doesn't mean I'm going to sacrifice mine
- Tony Almeida: [Walking back to pick up the payphone after Stephen calls back] I'm here
- Stephen Saunders: Make no mistake, this is your first and last accommodation
- Tony Almeida: Just tell me where you want to make the exchange
- Stephen Saunders: [Looking at his mobile computer] downtown under the 6th St. Bridge
- Tony Almeida: Under the 6th St. Bridge
- Stephen Saunders: Be there in thirty minutes but if I see you brought anyone else into this, I will kill your wife
- Jack Bauer: [after Tony hangs up the phone] you did great
- Chloe O'Brian: Do you really think Chase is going to quit Field Ops to start a family?
- Chloe O'Brian: [after she remains silent] he won't
- Kim Bauer: I don't know where you're getting this from? It's none of your business
- Chloe O'Brian: I've known Chase for three years: you've been dating him for three months
- Kim Bauer: And your point being?
- Chloe O'Brian: He might be a great guy but his just like your father. their the same person, so if you're expecting him to leave this for the suburbs, you should realize your expectations
- Kim Bauer: [Intentionally changing the subject] when can you uplink the satellite feed?
- Chloe O'Brian: Ten minutes
- Kim Bauer: Then do it
- Chloe O'Brian: [as Kim walks away] I'm just trying to be a friend, that's all
- President David Palmer: [Over the phone] you've gone too far this time
- Sherry Palmer: You know I thought I might be hearing from you
- President David Palmer: [Angrily] you send Keeler over here to blackmail me into giving up my Presidency?
- Sherry Palmer: [Denying her involvement] whoa, slow down, you mean Keeler paid you a visit?
- President David Palmer: You know damn well he did and you know why: only one person could've given him that prescription bottle and that's you
- Sherry Palmer: Ok, supposing that was true, what then?
- President David Palmer: You could go to jail for murder
- Sherry Palmer: You could go to jail too. You lied to the police, you told them I was with you all night, withholding evidence, obstruction of justice: those are serious crimes. I know you always wanted to go down in the history books but I'm not certain like this, am I right?
- President David Palmer: What did Keeler offer you?
- Sherry Palmer: Exactly what you should've offered me: respect and a seat at the table but instead you called me up when you needed me and after I did your little "dirty work", you threw me out like an old pair of shoes
- President David Palmer: You know me, better than anyone and you know I won't be bullied so before this goes too far you better ask yourself one question: "Are you willing to go to jail?"
- Sherry Palmer: You know I've asked myself that a million times and the answer is "Yes I am willing to go to jail." The question is "Are you?"
- Sherry Palmer: [after David remain silent, chuckles, before hanging up the phone] I didn't think so
- Jane Saunders: [while on their way to meet Saunders to exchange Michelle for Jane as Tony drives] I know my father released the virus in the hotel, people died but do you really think he'll do what his saying? Release it all over the country?
- Jack Bauer: If we don't stop him: yes
- Jane Saunders: Why? There has to be a reason his doing all this?
- Jack Bauer: When I worked with your father, he dedicated himself to saving lives of innocent people. Something's happened to him, I don't know what but now he believes our government betrayed him
- Jane Saunders: Is he right?
- Jack Bauer: There's no easy answer to that. The work your father did often demanded it, he made seemingly impossible sacrifices, and whatever happened to your father in Bosnia was obviously a sacrifice he wasn't willing to make. I'm sorry
- Wayne Palmer: So, what did Keeler want?
- President David Palmer: My job: he has proof that Sherry was at Alan Milliken's tonight
- Wayne Palmer: [Shocked] what? What proof?
- President David Palmer: [while handing a picture of the prescription bottle] Alan Milliken's prescription bottle turned up with Sherry's fingerprints on it
- Wayne Palmer: How did he even get a hold of this?
- President David Palmer: How do you think?
- Wayne Palmer: Sherry?
- President David Palmer: I talked to her a few minutes ago: she didn't even bother to deny it
- Wayne Palmer: She's got to be bluffing, I mean if this gets out, she goes to jail
- President David Palmer: So will I, she figures I have more to lose than she does. I think she's right
- Wayne Palmer: What does Keeler want you to do?
- President David Palmer: Withdraw from the race with whatever reason I choose, our party gets thrown into chaos whoever takes my place won't have a prayer in the election and Keeler becomes President
- Wayne Palmer: Oh my God, this all my fault
- President David Palmer: Hey look, we both made mistakes. I'm the one who called Sherry
- Wayne Palmer: There may be a way out of this
- President David Palmer: How?
- Wayne Palmer: [Referring to the prescription bottle, while holding the picture] without this, Sherry's got nothing right?
- President David Palmer: What're you suggesting?
- Wayne Palmer: That we take away the only leverage she has
- President David Palmer: You mean steal evidence? My God
- Wayne Palmer: Before you say "No", just think about this ok? I can call Foxton and he can make all of this disappear. All you have to do is give me the "Ok"
- President David Palmer: [Lowers his head then back up giving his approval to Wayne]
- Bruce Foxton: [Meeting privately] I thought your brother was never the kind of politician to lower himself to my level
- Wayne Palmer: I need to recover "something" that could cause him a great deal of trouble
- Bruce Foxton: What is it?
- Wayne Palmer: A bottle of medicine that was taken from a crime scene
- Bruce Foxton: Has it been admitted into evidence?
- Wayne Palmer: No, it's in possession of Sherry Palmer: the President's ex-wife. I have a pretty good idea where she is right now and I can partially reconstruct where she's been since she stole it
- Bruce Foxton: What kind of time frame are we looking at?
- Wayne Palmer: Hours, not days
- Bruce Foxton: Is this operation authorized by the President?
- Wayne Palmer: What difference does that make? You'll get your money
- Bruce Foxton: I'm not worried about that, I just need to know who I'm working for
- Wayne Palmer: My brother knows what you're doing
- Bruce Foxton: Not that I don't trust you, I'd like to hear it from him
- Wayne Palmer: [Before taking out his cell phone and dialing the number] fine
- Bruce Foxton: [Touches Wayne's hand with his hand implying his convinced Wayne's telling the truth] that's proof enough
