An interesting portrait of abuse and creativity
This is an excellent short film about an abusive father and his grown son. The father clearly drinks too much and dominates the family by threats and intimidation. Why the son stays there is a bit of a mystery, as he is the one who is single-handedly keeping his father's business afloat yet the dad berates him and destroys his pottery (the kid wants to make art pottery professionally). Perhaps it's because of his mother or perhaps because of an overly strong sense of responsibility. Whatever the reason, you know that something has to give soon--either the kid leaves or kills the old man.
This is a well written and acted film about domestic violence. What makes it a little different is that at the end you gain some insight into why the man is so angry, though in some ways this also perhaps softens the film a bit too much. In other words, you start to feel sorry for a man who really hasn't earned any pity or respect. Still, the film is well done and worth seeing.
