Back in 2007 we saw the release of the Ram Gopal Varma directed remake of the cult classic Sholay in the form of Rgv Ki Aag. Now years on we learn that the Delhi High Court has slapped the director with a fine of Rs. 10 lakhs for intentionally and deliberately developing a remake of the 1975 film without permission, effectively violating the exclusive copyright vested with its director Ramesh Sippy.
This judgement comes after a lawsuit was filed by Sascha Sippy, son and grandson of the original film's producers Vijay Sippy and Gp Sippy. In his petition Sascha alleged that the remake film Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (also titled Aag) was violative of the exclusive copyright held by the Sholay Media and Entertainment Pvt Ltd.

Mumbai, Oct 21: After barbs, megastar Amitabh Bachchan received praise from filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (Rgv) who credited Big B for his entry into filmdom.
Big B and Rgv worked together in films like "Sarkar", "Sarkar Raj", "Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag", "Department" and "Nishabd".
But relations between the two soured when Rgv posted some negative comments on Big B's performance in 2011 movie "Bbuddah... Hoga Terra Baap".
On Sunday Varma tried to patch up by inviting the megastar to the launch of his movie "Satya 2" and Big B obliged him.
On his blog Big B mentioned his visit to the event and even uploaded.

Mumbai, Oct 21: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan attended a party organised by Ram Gopal Varma for "Satya 2", and said he has no problem with the filmmaker.
The duo has worked together in films like "Sarkar", "Sarkar Raj", "Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag" and "Department". Problems reportedly emerged between them following Varma's abusive tweets regarding the actor's film "Bbuddah... Hoga Terra Baap".
Later, in an interview, Varma also blamed Amitabh's actor son Abhishek for leaving "Department", which turned out to be a flop.
However, Big B and Rgv put up a united front at the filmmaker's party Sunday.
When the 71-year-old.

Hyderabad, April 19: Nisha Kothari, Ram Gopal Varma's old favourite actress cum muse never quite managed to live up to the hype and stir she had created in B- town when she stormed into the industry with "Agyaat-the unknown". It flopped miserably at the box office and to add to her woes, her next film with Rgv, "Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag" also fared disastrously and sank without a trace. After these two debacles, Nisha it seems must have gone into some sort of reverie or hiding just to stop and take stock of where she is heading.
And if sense had prevailed, she would not have been signing a third movie with her mentor, Rgv. But.

Ramesh Sippy has said that Ram Gopal Varma should not have attempted to remake Sholay. The reworking of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer, titled Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, was rejected by audiences when it was released in 2007, Mumbai Mirror reports. Sippy said: "I have never thought of remaking Sholay. I am not against remakes. I wasn't upset when Ram Gopal Varma decided to remake Sholay. "That he didn't take my permission is a different matter. But yes, I had advised him not to remake Sholay. It is a cult film. I didn't want to tamper with it." The movie went on to gain notoriety as a byword for bad (more)...

After a hiatus, Ram Gopal Varma would be back into the business of making films with a vengeance. He would soon be flagging off multiple films in the year 2011 where he won't necessarily be coming behind the camera as a director. "That's true, I can't sit quite for long. I have to start new productions now", confirms Ramu whose last production without him as a director was ill fated Go (2007). On the other hand, his other production Shabri is stuck in the cans for years. There was a time when Ram Gopal Varma was busy giving breaks to number of first time directors. They could have ranged from spot boys to assistant directors to writers but anyone with promise who caught fancy of Ramu had a good enough opportunity to get a film for himself. News outlets across India are buzzing over the latest remake slated to hit Indian cinema screens this fall. Aakhri Gabbar is the latest in a line of remakes of the biggest Indian blockbuster of them all, Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra's curry western, Sholay. Just a couple of years ago, Twitch fave Ram Gopal Varma took an unsuccessful stab at updating the material with Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, also starring Amitabh. The latest incarnation stands probably about as much chance of succeeding as Rgv's version, but Aakhri Gabbar has a secret weapon that Rgv didn't.

Shaikh says he got the idea when he ran into an old school chum in Mumbai lamenting the lack of proper work and recognition for actors of small stature.

It seems that Ram Gopal Varma can’t get enough of Karan Johar. The duo are known for disliking each other’s work and genre of films but have never refrained from being diplomatic about their loathe. In fact, both director-producers, who coincidentally are dually seeing a rather rough time after their productions and directed films all seem to be failing at the box office, have publically ousted each other a number of times in the past on the social media site, Twitter.
And yet again, Varma has started another war after Johar’s We Are Family failed to create waves in the hearts of critics, audiences and at the box office. Varma went on to tweet, "The good thing about official remakes is that we can officially prove to the world how bad as makers we are" (sic). His indication of course was at We Are Family being an...

Midway through the year though, it is reeling after two debacles, Kites and Raavan.Trade analyst Vinod Mirani points out that when Ambani entered the picture there was stiff competition to grab big projects. “But they miscalculated their expectations from these films ...

When it comes to Bollywood, everything really matters and even our South Indian celebs are into it. Just with their funny tweets, it can result in to a mirthful occasion. Recently, Ram Gopal Varma had tweeted that he wants to remake Manirathnam’s ‘Raavan’ and Karan Johar’s ‘My Name is Khan’.
Soon after reading it, Karan Johar replied that Ram Gopal Varma has lots of sense of humor, but we don’t tend to see them in his movies. Again, then there was a funny comment that why say there’s no comedy in his films, when ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’ was a fantastic comedy film and now everybody wants to call him as ‘Raavan Gopal Varma Ki Aag’.
Funny people!!! Just imagine how it would have been if our actors and filmmakers had tweeted so.

April 21, 2010: Ram Gopal Varma is one filmmaker who always makes the kind of film he believes in. The flamboyant director is does exactly what he pleases without caring about the consequences. Be it the hype surrounding his controversial flicks like Nishabh or Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag or his alleged closeness to starlets like Priyanka Kothari, the man is undeterred. He also speaks his mind and doesn’t mince words.

Yet again another poll was conducted to find out whom Bollywood fans loved and detested over the last decade. Surprisingly it was Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif who came out on top as the Hottest Bollywood Couple over the last decade. The couple earned 36 percent of the votes and was followed by Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (27 percent). To much shock, Bipasha Basu and lover John Abraham came third pocketing 13 percent ahead of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor who bagged a mere 6 percent.
Moving on, the hottest kissing scene went to Mallaika Sherawat and Emraan Hashmi for their raunchy do in Murder (39 percent). Ash and Hrithik's controversial lip lock in Dhoom 2 came second trailed by the much discussed Kareena and Saif smooch in Kurbaan.
No guesses for the best and worst films over the last ten years. Aamir Khan was apparent in the top three: Lagaan, Rang De Basanti and 3 Idiots.

Suniel Shetty's Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, in which Ajay Devgn plays a gangster based on the infamous Haji Mastan, has hit yet another snag. Despite assurances from director Milan Luthria as recently as October that the film was not being shelved, the latest schedule of shootings have been canceled. Set in the Mumbai underworld of the 1970s, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, also stars Kangana Ranaut, whose character is said to be based on Bollywood actress Madhubala, Rock On!!'s Prachi Desai, and "serial kisser" Emraan Hashmi, whose Tum Mile releases on Friday.
While no official statement has been released, rumor has it that Ajay Devgn is unhappy with the way the script has shaped up and is demanding changes. This is far from the first time that he has been blamed for demanding changes, although the directors usually deny it, as Ram Gopal Varma said...

The bigger the hype, higher the expectations. With every Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar film, comes huge expectations. A superstar not just has to perform well, but also has the added responsibility of ensuring the film is well-made.
So what happens when a biggie tanks? Lets take Akshay for example. Not too long ago after Singh Is King, Akshay was literally on top of the world with innumerable hits. Chandni Chowk to China flopped, 8 x 10 Tasveer followed and now its make or break time with Kambakkht Ishq.
Lets have a look at some of the biggest flops in recent times. Films that were expected to do well at the box-office but didn’t; resulting in huge losses for producers and distributors.
Starting with Number 10..
10) Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag - What a disaster! Remaking Sholay is no joke, but the film was. There was nothing in Aag that’s worth a mention.

Ok, so first things first. Priyanka Kothari (earlier known as Nisha Kothari) hadn't disappeared anywhere after Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag or James. Neither had she suffered any fall out with her mentor Ram Gopal Varma. She was just taking a mini break and working in films down south. However, her Bollywood dream is still very much alive and this can be evidenced in her appearance in the teasers of Agyaat which are currently making the rounds of the internet world. Yes, Priyanka is back as a leading lady and is one of the only females in Agyaat that has it's characters dominated by trees, rocks, an invisible element and of course a bunch of male youngsters. However, it appears that after spending an 'agyaat' shooting schedule in the jungles of Sri Lanka, Priyanka couldn't really enjoy her 'silent' stint for an extended period of time. For some concluding work...
