The Crown is bringing another pivotal figure in British history to life during its fifth season.
Netflix announced Friday that Jonny Lee Miller had landed the role of Prime Minister John Major.
Major served as prime minister and leader of the UK’s Conservative party from 1990 to 1997 after serving as Chancellor of the Exchequer and Foreign Secretary under Margaret Thatcher from 1987 to 1990.
As has been the case with The Crown, the series is, once again, revamping its cast, which it does every two seasons.
Miller joins an ensemble that will include Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones) as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) as Princess Margaret, and Elizabeth Debicki (The Night Manager) as Princess Diana.
Dominic West (The Affair) has also reportedly been cast as Prince Charles, but casting has yet to be confirmed.

The showmen, the drama, the mohicans, the maths … House of Flying Arrows is the documentary darts deserves
No one is ever going to accuse reigning Pdc world darts champion Gary Anderson of hyping up the film he’s more or less the hero of. “It’s not as bad as I thought it would be,” he says, when asked what he thinks of House of Flying Arrows, a documentary that follows his progress through the 2016 world championships. “I mean, I never watch myself play darts or anything. So, you know, it was bit strange to sit there, actually watching myself for a change. To sit and listen to myself talk. My God, no … ”

The Flying Scotsman is out for one last ride – and his idiosyncratic life is cinematic gold, even if this doc never quite picks up speed
A maverick underdog, a troubled depressive, a sporting hero and an autodidact engineer given to cannibalising bits of kitchen equipment for his self-built bicycles, Graeme Obree’s life is cinematic gold. This documentary follows a so-so biopic, The Flying Scotsman, covering his early life. Battle Mountain benefits from the fact it contains Obree’s own voice, rather than a fictionalised account of it. He’s compulsively honest – revealing his bipolar disorder, his long-closeted homosexuality and a nasty abscess that threatens his training – and remains endearingly enthusiastic, although we can occasionally glimpse a darkness through the cracks in his chipper persona. Twenty years after he broke his last world record, Obree is out of retirement and trying for one last title at the International Human Powered...

The cycling movie is an expansive genre, covering everything from sports documentaries like the recent Pantani: The Accidental Death of a Cyclist to quirky comedies such as Pee-Wee's Big Adventure and fondly remembered children's adventure movies, like the oh-so-1980s BMX Bandits.
Cycling as a professional sport is also well represented on screen, whether it's the Indiana University Little 500 race in classic comedy-drama Breaking Away, an animated Tour de France in Belleville Rendez-vous or the Paris–Roubaix in Jørgen Leth's stunning documentary A Sunday in Hell.
With the Tour de France about to enter its final week, Digital Spy takes a look at the ten best cycling movies.

Back in February, we were thrilled to report that Oscar-nominated animated film The Illusionist was available for pre-order, but now we’ve got the official word from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment that the movie will be released on May 10.
As expected, The Illusionist will be available only as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack — no single DVD. It seems like this is something Sony is testing with its independent titles, as its Barney’s Version looks like it will be offered the same way. Lionsgate did the same thing when it released Ryan Reynolds-starrer Buried in January.
As we mentioned in our pre-order announcement for The Illusionist, the downside to a Blu-ray/DVD-only release is the hefty price tag for those fans who haven’t yet upgraded to the high-definition format. The French film will carry a list price of $38.96, although Amazon has discounted that to $26.99 as of this writing.

Love continued to linger in the air Wednesday (December 29) as Billy Boyd, best known as Pippin the hobbit in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Ali McKinnon.
Though he earned international fame and legions of fans for a quest for a different One Ring, The Evening Times reports Boyd kept the wedding very small and intimate.
Boyd and McKinnon met in 2002 at a pantomime (British winter musical comedy theater) she was appearing in. The two have a 4-year-old son, Jack, and have been living together in Glasgow's West End for several years.
The Evening Times reports the two were married at Oran Mor, just around the corner from their home. The venue sounds like something straight out of Middle Earth, but it's actually...

Screenplay, Britain's most northerly film festival, is a world away from the glitz and hype of Cannes
A couple of years ago, as I was dragging my sorry bones around another overcrowded, overheated, overhyped film festival in the broiling south of France, somebody asked me "How come you always look so miserable in Cannes?" I thought about this for a while before answering, "All things considered, I'd rather be in Shetland."
This was no idle threat. For the past four years, my partner Linda Ruth Williams and I have been proudly co-curating Shetland Arts' annual ScreenPlay festival, a celebration of everything we love about cinema that's about as far away from the exclusive ghastliness of the Croisette as it's possible to get in terms of both climate and culture. Last year we held a screening in a bus shelter in Unst, the most northerly in the UK (if you don't get off here,...

Universal has debuted the full trailer for Flash of Genius, a drama about college professor and inventor Robert Kearns whose invention of intermittent windshield wiper was stolen by the automobile manufacturers in the 1960s. Comparisons can be made to movies full of hope and ambition like Will Smith's Pursuit of Happyness, and Flash of Genius looks like it could be just as good. There are always a lot of great stories about successful and proud individuals in history that go unnoticed. This is one of them. Last year I saw the highly underrated movie The Flying Scotsman, a fantastic film about a determined cyclist. Flash of Genius looks like another wonderful story about a man who just couldn't let them get away with stealing his invention. And damnit, I love seeing these kinds of heartwarming films. Jonny Lee Miller has been tapped to play the title role in Eli Stone, ABC's drama pilot from Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim.
Eli, produced by Touchstone Television and studio-based Berlanti Television, is a high-concept legal drama about a lawyer (Miller) who finds out he might be a prophet.
Everwood creator Berlanti and Guggenheim, a former corporate attorney who has worked on series like ABC's The Practice, wrote "Eli" on spec. The two also are executive producing the project, which was picked up as a pilot by ABC in August (HR 8/4).
Miller, probably best known for his starring roles in the features Trainspotting and Mansfield Park, was a regular on CBS' crime drama Smith this season.
