- The courageous cook Marga Engel fights to keep a children's home that the building contractor Ohrmann wants to get his hands on.
- Marga Engel, the likeable and self-confident cook, has built a new life for herself with a lot of energy and love: She works as a cook and "head of finance" in a children's home, whose little residents have taken the clever woman very close to their hearts. However, Marga's "favorite enemy", the slick building contractor Ohrmann, has his eye on the picturesque villa in which the home is housed. His plan: He wants to transform the magnificent building into an elegant anti-aging clinic for a wealthy group of investors. Ohrmann hopes to be able to restructure his company, which is threatened with bankruptcy, with this major project. In this situation, it's just right for him that the owner Tobias Meinke wants to sell the old building anyway. Marga and her friend and lawyer Henning Gössel also desperately try to raise money to buy the building - but without success. At least they were able to get Meinke to sell the villa to Ohrmann at the last second under one condition: he was not allowed to terminate the youth home's rental agreement under any circumstances. Ohrmann apparently accepts this condition. But as soon as the house has come into his possession, the cunning speculator leaves no stone unturned to drive Marga and the children out of the villa. The only one who, despite all the intrigues, unshakably believes in the good heart behind the construction lion's greedy facade is Marga's romantically inclined colleague Emma, who has fallen for Ohrmann's sleazy charm. But Ohrmann shamelessly exploits her infatuation for his own purposes. Under the pretext that the dilapidated villa needs to be completely renovated, he wants to move the home into a sterile new building. But Marga and her protégés cannot be driven away so easily. With cunning and wit, they manage to thwart Ohrmann's plans - and in the end it becomes clear that even a supposedly unscrupulous construction lion like Ohrmann can have a big and generous heart.—ADR Das Erste
