Focus Features is partnering with Plan B Entertainment to produce and distribute Jon Stewart’s political comedy “Irresistible,” with Chris Cooper joining stars Steve Carell and Rose Byrne.
Variety first reported in October that Stewart and Carell had boarded the project, with Stewart directing and producing with Plan B. Stewart has kept a low profile since leaving “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” in 2015.
“In the age of fake news, Jon Stewart continues to be the real deal. He’s been making us laugh at the bipartisan commitment to bending the truth for years, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with him and Plan B as Jon brings his signature wit to the big screen with the incredibly versatile talents of Steve, Rose, and Chris,” said Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski.
Focus Features and Universal Pictures International will distribute the film worldwide. Focus’ president of production Josh McLaughlin will oversee the movie.

Jon Stewart and Dave Chappelle recently sat down for an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour where they discussed a wide range of topics, including the lead-up to Donald Trump’s presidency, the current climate and they also reflected on how their roles may have been affected by the events.
In terms of the racial, class and gender divide that has been a prevalent topic of conversation since the 2016 election, Stewart said that these issues are not new to the political landscape. “I think that’s always with us,” he said.

Jon Stewart was the face of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” for 16 years, and during that time he got a valuable lesson on the institutionalized sexism taking place in the comedy industry. The comedian recently appeared opposite Dave Chappelle for an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour and remembered a time during his run as “Daily Show” host when he got personally criticized for his all-male writing staff.
“There was an article about [‘The Daily Show’] that said it was a sexist environment, we didn’t have women writers. And I got very offended by that. I was very mad. I was like, ‘Are you saying I’m not a feminist?’ I was raised by a single mother. She wore a T-shirt that said, ‘A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.’ And me and my brother were like, ‘I think we might be men?’ So...

Jon Stewart has found his next film project. It’s called Irresistible, it’s based on an original idea that he came up with, and he wants Steve Carell to star in it.
Just in case you don’t remember, before Carell became the big star that he is, he was a contributor on Comedy Central’s news satire program The Daily Show with Stewart. So it’s kinda cool that the two will eventually be working together again.
There’s no information on what the story for the film will entail, but it is said to be a political satire film, which, as you know, is one of Stewart’s strengths.
Stewart previously directed the 2014 film Rosewater, which centered on journalist Maziar Bahari, who was detained by Iranian forces who brutally interrogated him under suspicion that he was a spy.

Author Paul Torday has died, aged 67.
The British businessman and writer was best known for his novel Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, which was later turned into a film.
His publisher Weidenfeld and Nicolson confirmed his passing on Wednesday (December 18) in Northumberland.
Salmon Fishing sold over 500,000 copies in the UK, winning the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize in 2007.
Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt starred in a hit 2011 movie of the same name.
Torday's last novel Light Shining in the Forest was published earlier in 2013.
Weidenfeld and Nicolson's Kirsty Dunseath said: "In many ways Paul Torday invented his own genre.
"His extraordinary fiction was filled with warmth and a wry, humane wit. He was a gentle observer of the foibles of human nature and our social behaviour."
Torday's agent Mark Stanton said: "He was a writer of rare talent, and a true gentleman. Paul, I raise a glass of the finest Bordeaux to you.

You can count on one thing when a period drama is announced. It’ll likely star one of the English K’s. Keira Knightley or Kate Winslet. Having turned her hand to nigh on every on-screen profession, Kate Winslet has signed on to star in and as The Dressmaker.
Based on the novel by Rosalie Ham, the English Rose will take the lead in the 1950s-set period thriller. She will play Tilly, a woman once ostracised by her community. After being accused of murder she returns home to exact her revenge. Here’s the book’s official blurb from publisher Duffy and Snellsgrove:
Dungatar is a small country town, where the townspeople’s eccentricities are many and varied – from Sergeant Farrat’s predilection for cross-dressing, to pharmacist Almanac’s retributive scheme of potion dispensing, not to forget the affairs and assorted dark secrets. With the announcement yesterday that Oscar winning producer of The Departed Graham King and his company Gk films are set to reboot the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider franchise, tongues have been wagging about just who might fill the boots and don the tank top and tinted shades of the video game heroine.

There’s no other actress in the world who comes close to the physical resemblance of the video games’ Croft. Salt Salt barrels forward at a relentless pace, and stops only for the most perfunctory of emotional beats. You know they're emotional beats because somber music plays in the background while characters gaze longingly at each other. 30 seconds of that, and it's back to more running, car hopping and violently-inflicted bodily injury. None of the action is especially impressive or inspired, but what it lacks in polish it makes up for in sheer volume. The mystery of Evelyn Salt is meant to keep the audience on their toes as the action unfolds, but it's all so ludicrous and predictable; if there is a compelling mystery at the core of Salt, it's learning just how much casual ass-kickery...

Is this Emily Blunt's year? I really hope so... Even though this is also the year fellow British actress Carey Mulligan (via An Education) made her magnificent acting known outside of the UK. An elegant, entertaining, informative picture with a gallery of vivid supporting turns, this provisionally crowns the winning Blunt as a Brit-pic star - but it skimps a bit on the bodice-ripping, blood and thunder. - - -

There's something about donning a Queen's crown that brings out the best in actresses. Cate Blanchett, Helen Mirren and Judi Dench have thrived as monarchs, and now it's the turn of Emily Blunt to take on an iconic British ruler. Blaming her "sly eyes" for constantly being cast as bad girls,...

Is this Emily Blunt's year? I really hope so... Even though this is also the year fellow British actress Carey Mulligan (via An Education) made her magnificent acting known outside of the UK. So how was Blunt's acting as the young Victoria? Is the movie Oscar-worthy? Is her performance Oscar-worthy? Says Empire:

Emily Blunt may end up playing a villain in Jon Favreau's upcoming sequel "Iron Man 2."
No official deal has been announced, but according to Variety, Blunt is in the race for the role of Natasha Romanoff, a Soviet spy also known as Black Widow, a bad girl wearing a high-tech black costume.
Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) will be busy fighting villains in the anticipated sequel to last year's awesome action flick "Iron Man."
Just last week, Mickey Rourke entered negotiations to play Crimson Dynamo, the tattooed Russian arms dealer who faces the superhero in a badass suit of armor.
Would Blunt make a good femme fatale? I think so. So far, I've liked her in pretty much everything I've seen of her, including "My Summer of Love," "Irresistible," "The Devil Wears Prade" and "Dan in Real Life."
Blunt will soon star alongside Amy Adams in "Sunshine Cleaning.

Kissing Meryl Streep's ass and shooting Anne Hathaway cold looks were enough to secure Ms. Blunt a place in the highly contested Hollywood rolodex. It has just been announced that she will be starring opposite Susan Sarandon in writer David Auburn's The Girl in the Park. The film tells the story of Julia Sandburg (Sarandon) who traumatized by the disappearance of her 3-year-old daughter 15 years ago, has cut herself off from anyone once near and dear to her. But when Julia meets Louise (Blunt), a troubled young woman with a checkered past, all Julia's old psychic wounds painfully resurface, as does her illogical and increasingly irrational hope that Louise may be
