- Colin and Howie seem inseparable. Married to a pair of sisters, they work as drivers for the same company and live next door to each other. Life gets complicated after Howie wins a promotion and is confronted with a tough dilemma over staff cutbacks.—Anonymous
- Robson Green and Mark Benton co-star in Christmas Lights, a one-off comedy drama for ITV1 centred on two lifelong friends who have always competed with each other. The festive season brings on new challenges and takes their rivalry to extremes resulting in the two friends forgetting what Christmas is really about. Colin married Jackie and Howie married her sister Pauline. Howie bought a house in a nice Close, Colin bought one next door. Both found jobs at the same parcel freight depot and both are scrapping for that coveted foreman's job. They can't even drive to work without a row about who has the best car degenerating into all out war. At school it was the usual stuff, but as they got older, unfortunately, they didn't seem to grow any wiser. Colin and Howie are now in their thirties, both happily married and living in the same street. But despite their grown-up responsibilities they're still locked in a schoolboy obsession with outdoing each other. Once it was football, girls and clothes, now they compete over cars, jobs and... Christmas decorations on their homes! When Colin buys a few Christmas lights for his house, even he could not have predicted the impact they would have on his and his friend's lives. As they cover their houses with an ever-expanding and costly array of lights and animatronic animals, they seem oblivious to the damage wreaked on their marriages and their lives. Can anything bring them to their senses?
