Mattel is still working to open its new “Mattel Adventure Park” in Glendale, Az, and has announced a soft opening for late 2024 with an official opening in early 2025. They have also just announced another park in Kansas City, Kansas, that they are creating in conjunction with Epic Resort Destinations.
According to a press release, the location will be in Bonner Springs, Kansas, and will open in 2026. Like the park in Arizona, it will include the Hot Wheels Bone Shaker®: The Ultimate Ride and the Hot Wheels Twin Mill® Racer roller coaster.
Guests can also expect the Thomas & Friends: World of Sodor, including four family-friendly attractions and an indoor play area.
Of course, Barbie will be represented with a “larger-than-life” Barbie Beach House that will have a location where guests can build a customized Barbie. As well as a new hologram experience to bring Barbie “to life” for guests called the Barbie Dream Closet Experience.

Netflix has been developing a live-action Masters of the Universe movie for some time, but it was revealed this summer that the streaming service had scrapped the project. However, Variety reports that the Masters of the Universe movie could find a new home at Amazon MGM Studios.
The potential move to Amazon isn’t a sure thing, as a source told Variety that the talks are “tenuous.” Should they go forward, Amazon would need to close new deals with Adam and Aaron Nee to write and direct the Masters of the Universe movie. Kyle Allen (A Haunting in Venice) is still attached to star in the movie as He-Man.

Unicorns are woefully underrepresented in cartoons, at least when compared with the place they hold among the toys, binder art and imaginations of children. Teddy bears, on the other hand, are practically everywhere you look in animation — not that it’s ever been a contest.
“Unicorn Wars” pits these two camps against one another in a brutal battle royal, featuring scene after scene of adorable teddies plotting to rid the world of the mythical horses, before erupting into a full-blown bloodbath. The visually striking, not-at-all-kid-friendly result is all kinds of wrong: Picture pastel-colored anime bears impaled on the horns of sleek black horses, backlit by raging hot-pink infernos. “The Care Bears” this ain’t, though the comparison can hardly be accidental with this ultra-graphic, Saturday morning cartoon-subverting satire for which irreverent Bronies may well be the ideal audience.

I nearly missed this one on the schedules, which would have been a shame. This is one of those books that a few years ago would only have existed in the minds of two fanboys. We had a few years with some odd couple pairings, though do you (want to) remember them? Superman and Tarzan? Batman and Punisher? Predator and, er, Archie Andrews? Well, I do, I’ve still got the lot, for my sins. The appetite for these ran out a while ago, so to see such a great mash-up as this is good news indeed. To be fair to Freddie Williams, he’s usually sniffing around when there’s a good team-up to be had, he’s got a lot of Ninja Turtles, He-Man, and Thundercats in the rear mirror, so this book was a natural.

Netflix and Mattel, Inc. are developing “Masters of the Universe,” Mattel’s iconic franchise from the 1980s, into a live-action motion picture with Kyle Allen (“West Side Story”) set to star as Prince Adam/He-Man, both companies announced on Friday. The project was formerly in development at Sony.
The live-action adaptation is expected to begin production in summer 2022.
The Nee Brothers co-direct from a screenplay written by the Nees and David Callaham.
In “Masters of the Universe,” an orphan named Adam discovers he is a prince destined to be the savior of a faraway land and must quickly learn of his power and the importance of saving his true home from an evil force.
“‘Masters of the Universe’ is an iconic property that shaped the imaginations of an entire generation of kids with the message of becoming the best version of yourself,” Robbie Brenner, executive producer of Mattel Films said in a statement.

Despite it being 2021 and not, say, 1984, there’s A Lot of Masters of the Universe in the pop culture panorama at the moment. Not only are toy aisles of major stores carrying its quasi-vintage-styled items—peddled to a new generation—brandishing the classic blue logo bursting through red rocks, but the streaming arena of Netflix is doubling down on the franchise, having first unveiled animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation in July. Now, the second part of this double-header (which would have been a triple-header had recent live-action movie plans not fizzled), CG animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, has heralded its imminent arrival with a trailer.
With just a quick glance at the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe trailer, it becomes quite clear that the series is not only a different take on the franchise, but a ground-up reinvention of the classic story—albeit one that,...

Netflix is bringing viewers back to Eternia with “Masters of the Universe: Revelation.” The series marks the first new episodes to be produced in over 20 years. However, unlike other attempts to change or alter the entire franchise, this project stays true to its roots. The premiere episode promises the familiar as “…a cataclysmic battle between He-Man and Skeletor leaves Eternia fractured and the Guardians of Grayskull scattered throughout the land.

This article contains She-Ra spoilers. We have a spoiler free review right here.
For most of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power’s run, references to the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983) series it rebooted are quiet jokes or re-used names. Adora shouts “For the honor of Grayskull!” when she transforms into the super-powered She-Ra, but what exactly Grayskull is remained a mystery. Perhaps, it was one that never really needed to be solved, but as She-Ra and the Princesses of Power’s storyline began to include some science fiction world-building, especially in season four, that begged the question of whether an explanation would fold nicely into the character’s new backstory. She-Ra Season 5 does indeed explain it, tying “Grayskull” into the story of the rebel She-Ra named Mara and what exactly happened on Adora’s planet long ago.
Let’s take a look at the reference and...

All good things must come to an end. After a whirlwind debut and quickly amassing a huge following of fans, DreamWorks She-Ra and the Princesses of Power will soon be ending with its fifth and final season. With the explosive ending of season 4 that near literally opened up the universe of She-Ra (possibly to Eternia?) we would have loved to see the show run longer but more than likely it was always planned to end with this fifth season.

Noah Centineo has 18.3 million followers on Instagram. That’s about 17 million more than he had when “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” was released just 18 months ago.
Even so, the 23-year-old Florida native insists fame hasn’t gotten in the way of his daily life. “It’s not like I have them following me around in daily life,” Centineo says of his fans on this week’s episode of the Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket.” “I can go out in public. I can go to Starbucks. I go to coffee places. I don’t think it quite has translated to the point of like if Michael B. Jordan goes out in public; I think he would cause a riot. It’s not quite there yet with me, which I’m thankful for.”
Centineo first gained a following playing Jesus Adams Foster on the Jennifer Lopez-executive produced Freeform series “The Fosters.

It’s looking like the next few years are going to be all about the Masters of the Universe. Two major projects are currently in development. First out the door will be Kevin Smith’s reimagining of the classic toy line and cartoon, Masters of the Universe: Revelation. That’ll be a Netflix animated show boasting the vocal talents of Mark Hamill as Skeletor and Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela, with supporting roles played by Henry Rollins, Kevin Conroy, Tony Todd and Alicia Silverstone. Smith’s show will act as a sequel to the original animated series, which ended in 1985.
The other project, meanwhile, is a full-on live-action Masters of the Universe movie from Sony Pictures. This will star Noah Centineo as He-Man/Prince Adam, will be directed by Aaron and Adam Nee and has a script by Iron Man screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. But while the Netflix...

Anyone else think that Sony is trying to bite off more than it can comfortably chew these days? Between Uncharted, He-Man, and the movies related to and dealing with Spider-Man it’s beginning to look as though the studio is doing its best to simply stay on steady ground while attempting to call upon reserves it just doesn’t have. When trying to decide which story to push, Uncharted or He-Man, it almost sounds as though Uncharted might get the final word instead of He-Man, which has been languishing in development hell for quite some time as Kevin Burwick of MovieWeb reminds

Sony has pushed back the release date of its live-action adaptation of “Uncharted” from Dec 18, 2020 to March 5, 2021, the date originally set aside for the studio’s live-action adaptation of the “Masters of the Universe” cartoon series and toy line.
“Masters of the Universe” has subsequently been removed from Sony’s release schedule and is now dated “TBD” by the studio.
Based on the popular Playstation action-adventure video game series, “Uncharted” will star Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter and adventurer whose quests for rare and mythical artifacts often runs him afoul of drug lords, war criminals and other assorted bad guys. A director for the film hasn’t been formally announced, but just this month Ruben Fleischer became Sony’s top choice.

Fans of the original series were disheartened to learn earlier this week that Sony had shut down the promising Masters of the Universe reboot. They can now breath easily once again though, as it turns out that those rumors were false. The movie is still currently slated for its March 2021 release date as the development team continues to work out the production design and the cast undergoes training.
The original Heroic Hollywood story claiming that the film had been scrapped has since been taken down. Other outlets have refuted the rumor as well, prompting the website to delete their report.
It was believable at the time that the studio had shelved the production, considering the problems every potential Masters of the Universe adaption has gone through. For years, projects revolving around the beloved ’80s characters have undergone a myriad of potential directors, actors and writers. And none of them ended up panning out.

DreamWorks Animation has locked in Oscar winner Geena Davis for a recurring guest role on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, the GLAAD- and Emmy-nominated Netflix original series that returns August 2 with its Season 3 adventures.
The casting coup was announced by executive producer Noelle Stevenson during a fireside chat with Davis at the Bentonville Film Festival. The announced theme of that stage conversation: a panel discussing representation and inclusion in entertainment titled “She for She: Power of the Pack.”
Davis voices a character named Huntara, the imposing de facto leader of the Crimson Waste, who reluctantly helps Adora, Glimmer and Bow on a quest. Davis may have a special affinity for the sword-and-sandal scene as an elite archer in her personal life. Davis famously took up archery at age 41 and proved to be such a savant that, just two years later, she narrowly missed on her bid to compete on the U.

If you listen closely, you’ll hear the combined cries of middle-aged men and teenage girls from around the world. Why? Because it’s been announced that the upcoming adaptation of popular ‘80s toy line/cartoon “Masters of the Universe” has been pushed back from later this year until 2020. That means that we still are at least a year away from heartthrob Noah Centineo showing us what he’s got as the popular character He-Man.

The project was previously written by David S. Goyer, who is also an executive producer.
Based on Mattel’s hugely successful 1980s toy line, “Masters of the Universe” follows Prince Adam, heir to the throne of planet Eternia, who uses the magical Power Sword to transform into the heroic warrior He-Man. Mattel Films, firmly taking control of their toy properties, in partnership with Columbia, will produce a new 3D, live-action feature based on "Masters of The Universe", with Art Marcum & Matt Holloway writing a new screenplay, after years of scripts and directors being rejected for not living up to the brand's billion dollar potential:
Filmation's original "He-Man: Masters Of The Universe" (1983) cartoon series, created to sell Mattel toys, was inspired by author Robert E. Howard's "Conan The Barbarian", airing 130 syndicated episodes, starring muscle-bound 'He-Man' defending 'Eternia' and the secrets of 'Castle Grayskull' from the evil forces of fan favorite 'Skeletor'.
The series was followed in 1990 by "The New Adventures of He-Man".
"...during the aftermath of a 'Great War', the 'Sorceress of Castle Grayskull', aka 'The Goddess', gave 'Prince Adam', son of planet Eternia's 'King Randor' and the earthling 'Queen Marlena', his super powers.

For years Sony Pictures has been trying to get a new film adaptation of the classic 80s animated series He-Man and The Masters of the Universe off the ground.
They’ve had so many filmmakers attached to the project over the years, but for one reason or another they just haven’t been able to get the film into production.
As of right now, brothers Adam and Aaron Nee are still set to direct the film. They previously made a little indie film back in 2015 called Band of Robbers. Now, there are two new writers who have been hired to help write the script. Those writers are Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who have written the films Iron Man and Men in Black: International.
The previous draft of the screenplay was written by David S. Goyer, who has worked on several of the DC movie properties.

“Iron Man” screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum are in talks to rewrite “Masters of the Universe” for Sony Pictures and Mattel Films, individuals with knowledge of the project tell TheWrap.
The duo most recently wrote “Men in Black: International” for the studio.
The project was previously written by David S. Goyer, who is also an executive producer. Aaron and Adam Nee are set to direct the project.

‘Masters Of The Universe’ Movie: Art Marcum & Matt Holloway To Write New Draft For Sony/Mattel Films
Writers Art Marcum & Matt Holloway are in final talks to write the new draft of Masters of the Universe, which Adam Aaron Nee will direct.
Pic is based on the bestselling He-Man toyline from the 1980s that spawned an animated TV show and a 1987 feature from Cannon Films starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man; back in the day it made over $17 million at the domestic box office. He-Man is a muscular medieval kind of guy who is trying to ward off the nasty Skeletor and his dark armies as both good and evil fight for control of Castle Grayskull.
Currently, Masters of the Universe had a release date of this year on December 20, but getting an event production of this magnitude up and running will take time. So it’s quite conceivable we could see that release date move into 2020.

Sony Entertainment, determined to revisit every major film property in their Columbia Pictures catalogue, have entered into negotiations with "The Dark Knight" screenwriter David S. Goyer to direct a 3D reboot of "Masters of the Universe", following Goyer delivering a killer script to the studio:

Forget trying to make Armie Hammer happen, someone should get to the bottom of why Hollywood is so eager to make “Masters Of The Universe” (besides the obvious IP and money reasons). Over the years, a number of directors have tried and failed to get this property off the ground — John Stevenson, Jon M. Chu, and McG — not to mention the numerous writers that have passed through the door.

David Goyer looks set to bring He-Man back to the big screen...
The Masters of the Universe movie is still in development, and apparently much closer to production than we thought. The movie currently has a December 18th 2019 release date.
This one has had a revolving door of directors and writers. The most recent director to exit was McG, and his exit was followed by the entrance of David Goyer as writer.
But now it appears that Goyer is also directing, as per a report in The Wrap. Goyer is, at the very least, a good choice to write this. His incredible attention to the worldbuilding of Krypton in Man Of Steel makes me wonder what he could do with Eternia. The last feature he directed was 2009's The Unborn, and he previously helmed Blade: Trinity.

Masters of the One film project that I've been looking forward to seeing one day. It's been in and out of development for years and I've been hoping to see a great director attached to it. The last director who was developing it was McG, but thankfully that fell apart. Now, according to The Wrap, David S. Goyer is in talks to direct it.
I have mixed feeling about the possibility of Goyer taking on the project. He's written some great films like Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy and Dark City. But then he's also written some turds like Jumper and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. As far as his directing resume goes, he directed Blade: Trinity, The Unborn, and The Invisible, which I think were all pretty mediocre films.

David Goyer is writing the new Masters Of The Universe film, as the search for a star and director gets underway...
More news on the big screen reboot of Masters Of The Universe, that Sony is finally pressing ahead with. Yesterday, it was revealed that the movie now has a release date, with the studio earmarking it for a December 18th 2019 unveiling. It was also thought that McG, who has been attached as director since early last year, was still on board to call the shots.
But not so. We now learn that McG and He-Man have parted company, and that Sony is on the lookout for a new director to take on the project. Meetings have been taking place with potential candidates. In the meantime, David S Goyer, a comic book movie regular (The Dark Knight trilogy, Man Of Steel, Blade: Trinity) is working on a new screenplay for the film.

Some projects in Hollywood can never seem to gain any real momentum. Just look at the forever-in-development remake The Crow, which has been the radar for what feels like decades. While Masters of the Universe — a film based on the Mattel franchise — doesn’t have quite the history of The Crow, it is a film that’s faced countless false starts and writer/director changeovers.
