Sex & Nudity

  • There are no sexual scenes or references to sex. Characters undress but no nudity is shown.

Violence & Gore

  • There are no particularly violent scenes; there is some man-handling of characters at certain times during the film but this is fairly mild. The interrogation scenes do not involve any violence or brutality. The executions are blacked out and implied rather than seen.

Profanity

  • There is little or no profanity in the film (other than an occasional 'damn').

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Several characters smoke during the course of the film. Near the end of the film, three characters share a cigarette together.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The whole Movie is extremely unsetting.
  • The interrogation scenes occasionally become quite heated. The courtroom scene is emotionally charged (the judge rants at each of the accused in turn). There is a scene involving an air raid over the city; we hear sirens and anti-aircraft fire but the raid itself is not shown. The scenes immediately before the executions are very emotional and may be potentially upsetting for younger or more sensitive viewers.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Sophie Scholl is shown being placed in the guillotine and her neck secured. Then the film blacks out, but we hear the blade come down. She is dead.

Profanity

  • The judge shouts and insults Sophie and Hans Scholl.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The actual moment of Sophie's death is not shown, but (spoiler alert) she is shown being placed in the guillotine and her neck secured. Then the film blacks out, but we hear the blade come down. Fortunately, this is the last scene. You can stop the film early, after the three leads have a final cigarette and the prison matron leads Sophie away. Stop there and you miss nothing but the abrupt and horrifying scene described above.
  • The distribution of leaflets is extremely intensive.
